Finally I have arrived.....

Hire me! Please? Thank you!
I think that is what I would say as well. Even though it is very difficult (or rather, impossible) to predict what the technology/media/computer industries will shape up in months to come, I think Apple is on the cutting edge in terms of how they market their products /services and how they package them together to stand out in the very crowded markets. I think working at Apple will give me a very challenging work environment (while I am being compensated well for high performance).

I think if I could say one thing to Apple it would be something along the lines of "haha my old powerbook is pear shaped" simply because I have nothing worthwhile to say to them that would make any difference, they know what they're doing and do a much better job of it than they would with my input :p

Damn right it would be a challenging work environment. From what I've heard Steve Jobs is an absolute ******* to work for. Then again, the stuff I hear my employees saying would suggest the same about me :D

Please...

...GPL Mac OS X. Hey, just GPL Jaguar if you want, that's good enough for me.

(Yeah, I know, but you asked, and that's my answer. I know most of you wouldn't want the above.)

again on the right to left languages

Support Right-To-Left languages like Hebrew & Arabic. It is absurd that such a big company that regards itself as a better alternative to Windows disregards over billion people on this planet.

Does Windows support right-to-left? If not, this would represent a massive untapped market where you could gain a huge market share for very minimal effort (massive returns). Even if windows is already "there", the benefit might not be perceived as worth the effort which is really a shame.

Truly lead....

I would like to see Apple take a strong stance on things like...

1. We will no longer sell any machine with less than 1gB of memory
2. We will no longer sell any desktop with less than a 200 gB hard drive

3. (don't hate me for this) I want to be able to go into a mac and quickly replace a hard drive (speaking of recent eMacs)

You should all take a serious look at a word processor called Mellel -- it supports not only right-to-left, but for cursive-only languages like Arabic, Mellel connects all your words together.

It is a truly full-featured word processor that can export .doc format (although I haven't used this function so I don't know how well it works), .rtf and can print to .pdf.

It was written by a group of Israeli programmers for the specific purpose of authoring academic works that combine both right-to-left and left-to-right text. I recently used this program to write a major work, not for the language capability, but for the footnote options. (You can have many different streams of notes, e.g., 1, 2, 3 for endnote references; *, †, ‡ for footnotes; and a, b, c for editors' notes within quoted works that have their own notes. Word can't do that at all!)

Also, it's ONLY for OS X. Take that, Windows!

Best part? $39. That's right. Thirty-nine bucks gets you your own copy. (Oh, and you can try it out free -- it just prints "UNREGISTERED" across a document until you buy it.)

edit: I'm adding a screenshot to show you the direction switching thing.

I second that one!! With the Mighty Mouse out now they really should have more than one button on the 'books. Maybe using the same kind of technology, only one button but if you push it on the right it right clicks, push it on the left it left clicks. Mind you, I'd rather have one button but that could suit the 'purists' out there!

Mellel is indeed a good alternative, but it's not an operating system-wide solution. Plus, I want to be able to use Pages or Keynote like anyone else. I know 90% of the Right-to-left population will NOT accept any computer where everything is in English.

Regarding windows, Yes it's been fully localized for all right-to-left languages since windows 98 (!!!). This not only means that all the menus etc. are in Hebrew, it means that even the "Start" button is to the RIGHT of the screen, and everything is working right to left (including all menus). Also, all internet pages are shown perfectly, but's that's partly due to internet's explorer properitory technologies that Safari can't support.

So yes, Apple is light years BEHIND on this issue which is a real shame. It might be the easiest computer to use, IF you are using a supported language, but it is just impossible for some laguage users. I can't even properly type in Pages from right to left because the cursor goes crazy. Microsoft Office for Mac doesn't support right-to-left AT ALL (not even opening a document), but I can't be surprised, Microsoft doesn't want to ruin their 99% market share in Israel, and i'm sure in other coutries as well.

There was a Page 2 rumor not too long ago that soon there will be an Arabic version for Tiger. I really really hope that this is correct, because if it is, then it means Hebrew can be supported as well (and also greek and other languages).

Apple, hear my plea! It's been 30 years now, isn't it about time? :(

Oded S.

P.S., while you're at it, replace your crummy exclusive reseller in Israel, Yeda Computers. They suck at prices and service.

Right to Left language support would be great.
a 2 button mouse on the laptops is wicked too.
but most importantly, release something innovative already!

"Screw you!" (because of the switch to ugly x86 hardware)

The last pretty commodity architecture will die because of Apple and the whole world will be stuck with x86. A tradgedy of the commons.

I would say, The Intel move was a very bad decision. It showed beyond all doubt that you no longer care about being the best (if we didn't realize that from the poor quality control and cheap standard parts), that you are just milking your trademark from consumers who were foolish enough to be loyal to you.

sometimes i wish i could make a public service annoucement as a sort of mass lesson for n00bs.

the intel move was not a bad decision and i will explain why:

all modern cpu's essentially have a native instruction set, basically whatever works best for the performence required, so everything is pretty RISC like, heck powerpc cpu's have a more RISC like NIS than that set down by the powerpc insstruction set, cpu's today have translators, through use of micro and now macro-ops they can add various instructions to make more complex instructions with ease, intel killed CISC a long time ago the only thing holding them back is their clock speed high pipeline maddness which ended with the P4, as you can see AMD has been makeing cpu's on par with the powerpc's on similar R&D budgets, (heck IBM fabs about 1/8th of all K8 cpu's).

intels idiocy AMD and IBM/moto's small size have kept them roughly on par untill now.

intel has given up the MHz race and realised that the P4 sucks and a low pipeline low power high IPC core is the way to go and have proved they are more than able to produce such a cpu (look at conroe benchmarks)

AMD has grown up and is a serious threat to intel, intel is still much bigger, but AMD is able to spend comparable amounts to intel on R&D but it's going to get very tough for them very quickly as intel drops netburst and picks up Core.

cpu archetecture fanboyism died in the 90's please let it die here.
