Initially voted 5 (due to the squared off edges), but then read OP - if screen size is taken into consideration, then the X/XS wins.

Hmmm. Do I have to pick from the list?

I think my favorite size overall is the 8, but I’d like it with a full screen and a top-notch 1080p LCD screen because my Granny eyes don’t seem to like OLED.

I did LOVE the 4/4S, but just don’t think I could ever go back to a screen that small.

I would say the size of my work phone which is an iPhone 8 is the phone I would use the most if it had the specs of my personal phone the iPhone XS Max. At times my hands cramp with the size of the max if I’m being honest.

What are the specs you're missing on the 8? Camera? Display quality?

There should be more grouping of types major types.

6, 6S, 6S+, 7, 7+, 8, 8+ is really one group, whereas all the X* phones another group.

As for my choice, I went with the 6S+ as that is my personal favorite look within that body style.

Certainly looks like there's a market of some kind for something new that's "sub 4.7" phone physical size."
I really hope Apple addresses that at some point.

Yes the 4 was amazing but come on? who wants that small screen?

I went with X. Just wish it was lighter and thinner.
The iPhone 4 was the first truly immortal iPhone. The build, design, and the addition of a FaceTime camera created the first truly complete iPhone.

i met up with a friend who had an older iPhone 6. I could appreciated the smaller format.

everything millennial seems to bloat out but remains functionally equivalent.
turn an phone over and they all look the same

I'm a millennial and I'm not sure what' you're talking about

But do they all fit in my jeans pocket? Nope.

Apple needs to see where this is going. Not everyone wants a skinny ipad mini to cart around just because they have to pick up the phone if their mother-in-law calls. Two sizes of smartphone seem to be the handwriting on the wall in a lot of polls like this one.

I think I could go with either a 4s or SE the more I think about it..
Smaller does sound great though, even as I say that with my SE next to me.

Pretty amazing how split the poll is amongst "Smaller than 4.7" and everything larger.

I hope Apple re-addresses those of us who prefer smaller at some point.

I don't really know what I'll do one day when my SE is toast if there's nothing small again.

I truly detest the larger physical sizes.
It is to the point that I'd consider not having an iPhone anymore
(which is amazing to me that I'm even saying that)

Just went from an SE to an 8. Have to admit the 8 is a gorgeous piece of equipment. Great camera, great speakers, great performance generally — but two months later it's still just too big for comfortable one-handed use. I'm always shifting it around. One big clue that phones are too big? The "reachability" feature. The minute you see a UI workaround like that, something's amiss ergonomically.

Just for kicks, I fired up my SE yesterday, and wow is it easy on the hand.

I pulled out my SE from my desk drawer yesterday and wow is it easy on the hand.

It's like sliding on a perfectly sized, comfortable old friend, piece of clothing or something.
They just really nailed the hand feel & proportions on the early phones.

Both the 4" & 3.5" sizes are wonderful I think.

I'm honestly not at all convinced that level of care and product editing and refinement is happening anymore at Apple. I think it was a function of being smaller and having that very important leadership at the top that cared so very very deeply about products and what got the Apple name put on it.

Apple meant something more back then. Now "Apple" is really just an expensive brand. It's a very good brand, but one that I believe is continuing to coast mainly on the merits and memories of what was built up in the 2000's.
