Someone has to have one. ;)

I got one, but I am very uncertain if I should go with the baby air one, or the larger one. I really need someone to tell me the resolution and screen real estate are good on the small one. In any case I am going to pull the trigger tomorrow.

Dig this thread up tomorrow. The 12" was my favorite Apple product—until I spilled beer on it.

I feel your pain buddy.

As for the pbook, after all this years and I still can't let it go, this device really did have something special about it.

And it's not a half bad system either, If I stick in a pata ssd it will run like a breeze, still runs with no problems as is, my main reason for replacing it is the screen, I really do need a better screen as my eyes are not getting any younger. And yet here I am rationalizing why I should keep it lol. :)

Maybe I should take it as a divine sign that just a few days ago my charger started giving me problems with it's connection to the mains plug.

I have the 12" PowerBook, but I'm not sure about picking up the Air. I could just run up to the Apple store with my PowerBook and set them side by side. :p

I'm sure they'd get a kick out of it, and you'd get lots of eyes if you have a blog. :p

i agree, the staff would probably love to know how it compares - on a different note, did the 12" have a backlit keyboard? if not then the new MBA really is the 12" replacement!

No it did not, but the molded keys had a luxurious look and feel. :(

Shoot, I've still got a working Powerbook 150 from what, 1994? That thing is a tank! Luckily I'm not waiting on that to crap out, I'll wither to dust long before it does.

too funny ...i still have my powerbook and i updated it with 1gb memory and leopard....runs great.... i only use it for syncing my ipad and iphone...

but im not too sure i like the ipad anymore now that the smaller airs came out..
id rather have keyboard in lap screen out in front of me...easier than screen looking down and half of it a virtual keyboard.

im going to take the powerbook into apple the latch broke...when i bring it in ill try and compare it to the 11.6 MBA

If only the Air had 3G, but even then I still couldn't afford the monthly fees.

So you are definately going for the 11.6 Sean? Are you not a bit worried about the small screen coupled with the (horrid to me) 16:9 aspect ratio and the minuscule vertical space, cause that's mainly what's keeping me back.

I completely agree on what you said about the ipad btw, there are still lots of purposes for it that the airs don't cater too, but there's a reason why these airs where held back and that was to give the ipad time to catch on with people, because otherwise people would have jumped all over the airs and ignored the ipad.

Alright guys, I think you've sold me. I'm going to jet up to the Apple store after I eat something with my PBook and take a couple comparison shots.

Hopefully there won't be a huge crowd hovering around the Airs. :p

As much as I may rock, unfortunately supply lines at my local Apple Store do not!

Got to the store, grabbed the concierge, and BAM. No new Airs. He volunteered to show me the old one though. >_<

Ah well, there's a reseller closer to me than the Apple Store and they're supposed to have them next week. I'll pop into them and make my comparison then!

Maybe someone else can get to one prior to me?

Why are people so fond of the 12 inch PB

I am amazed at the moment, how keen people are on this machine. I had the 866MHz version with maximum RAM and it still runs, although battery life is not so good as it was. As a portable machine it has poor screen brightness, terrible battery life and weighs 4.6 lbs (2.1 kg) and is over an inch thick. The current 13 inch MBP compares favourably in every way and cost about half as much as the 12 inch did.

I feel no particular love for the 12 inch. My G3 Bronze was probably my favourite looking backward, but every new machine has been better than the last with the exception of the first MBP which needed a new disk, batteries and motherboard in the first 12 months.

I haven't got the MBA to get you a picture.

Something about the look. I mean Hell, I've still got my Pismo G3 (now running a G4 500 upgraded CPU) in use. I loved that design as well.

Honestly, if the Apple logo were flipped on the Pismo so that it would be upright whilst open, it would be the perfect laptop in my eyes.

Pity now that these things are becoming more and more obsolete. :(

And they felt great typing on, I still don't get the excitement with chicklet keys.
Nor do I. The PB's keyboard is much better for typing. It just felt sooooo great.

It was the perfect size and had a great feel. I absolutely loved my 1.5GHz 2GB RAM 12" PB.

I've got a 12"PB on the shelf and an 11.6 on the way. If nobody has posted by delivery date (next week hopefully) I'll snap a pic for you.

You mean your 1.5GHZ 1.25GB RAM 12" PB. Never met anyone who replaced the onboard ram with a 1gb chip. Would be impressed though if this was true.
