I'll take a guess at British price .... here goes

I am finding it unbearable waiting for the ipad to be released here in UK like many others.
I have been wondering how much it will cost. So here's my guess:
£349.99 for the 16gb, £449.99 for the 32gb and finally £549.99 for the 64gb.
Be interesting to see how close my guess is.
If that's the case, it's more or less the same as importing from US on a forwarding site anyway. So maybe I should just go for it? But there's just that niggle telling you to be patient and see if prices could be a tad lower!
....... Patience .......

I don't think there is a chance that prices would be any lower than your guess.

but I du think you are close on the price
 
I think your estimates are on the low side. I'm banking on the base model model being £400; that way I might get a nice surprise!
 
A bit of science...

Ok two ways to look at this

  1. Take the US price, convert to punds, add VAT so the 16gb would be 332 +17.5% VAT = 390.1
  2. The iMac in UK is roughly 80.8% of US price, the Mac mini is roughly 85%, so 16GB would be £411 at 82.5%

So I reckon £399 would be right for UK price they are not going to lose any margin for the UK.
 
Around the £400 mark I think. I took the prices from the Apple stores and used a current Exchange rate £1 = $1.50 (Just for the purpose of this lets assume we could get that exchange rate!)


Time Capsule 2 TB US - $499 (£332) (No Sales Tax)
Time Capsule 2 TB UK - £388 (With VAT)
14% Difference

Mac Mini US - $599 (£398) (No Sales Tax)
Mac Mini UK - £510 (With VAT)
21% Difference


MacBook US - $999 (£665) (No Sales Tax)
MacBook UK - £816 (With VAT)
18% Difference


Will the iPad get a 14% conversion or will it be nearer to 20% as it's a new product and in high demand?

Im guessing nearer to 20% which gives an approximate price of £400.
 
I'm betting on £399 for the base model too - it's a nice number that appeals because it's that "under four hundred" figure. Companies like to be able to say "...For less than x hundred pounds !!!!" and we go, "Oooh, yes" - even if it is only one pound under the hundred. :)
£349 would be a nice figure too (...."For less than 350 quid !!!!!"), but I'm not counting on it.
 
Sorry OP but the chance of it being £349 are extremely low. That would mean that they are selling it for less over here than they are in the States. Not going to happen. I'd put my guess at £399, which would mean that they are selling it for slightly more than they are in the States. That seems to be what Apple do.

I'm expecting £399 too which suggests to me that it'll probably be more like £439. <sigh> Apple's pricing always seems to come out a bit higher than I expect and with the current state of the pound, I'm kind of dreading what the price will be.

IMO anything over £400 for the base unit will hit their sales numbers hard in the uk.
 
I think £399 is a fair guess for the base model Wi-Fi version. It's a nice round figure and as somebody rightly said above, puts it at a "below £400" that is easy to market, easy to sell and easy to justify for alot of consumers.

Anyone got a ball park estimate for the 3G versions? My maths is abysmal so I'm not going to embarrass myself at a public guestimate!
 
My guess for the 3G versions:

16GB £549 (I meant £449 here - I'll leave the original mis-type so that the thread still makes sense!)
32GB £629
64GB £699

I just want a date when we can pre-order. What do we reckon? Early to mid-April - 9th or 16th?

That seems a bit expensive.

The 3G models are an extra $130 more than the wi-fi models in the US which if you add VAT and a little Apple Tax™ should be about £110.
 
Yes, on reflection, and after reading through all your comments, I guess I have to admit that the prices will be higher than I would like them to be this side of the pond.
So my new guesstimate is now

16gb - £399
32gb - £499
64gb - £599

I'd like the 64gb version, but £600 sure sounds like an awful lot of money.
 
I agree with the base model being £399, but I don't agree with the £100 increments for capacity. I think it could be:

£399 16 Gb

£475 (Perhaps for roundness' sake, it may be £469 or £479) 32 Gb

£549 64 Gb

Then again, this is Apple... :eek:

Only if this magic £399 figure being bandied about is accurate though.

If it's £439 as suggested above then this could be bang on.

Think it's REALLY anyone's guess what Apple will do with pricing at the moment.

I think £399 is tacky. I bet they'll go with either £379 or £389. :cool:
 
It is pretty awful though that we still have to play this guessing game less than 2 weeks before the US launch. We still have to guess the UK prices and preorder/launch dates. I know Apple don't "owe" us anything, but they aren't stupid.. They know that many UK/global customers are awaiting more news, I feel they are treating us a little badly right now with this lack of info.
 
Yup, the lack of info is getting silly.

That said, I know 2 things for certain;

-It'll be a complete rip relative to the US price, even taking taxes etc into consideration. Apple + ripoff Britain = ouch!
-I'm buying the 32gb 3G whatever the price :)
