That seems a bit expensive.

The 3G models are an extra $130 more than the wi-fi models in the US which if you add VAT and a little Apple Tax™ should be about £110.

Let's take the 64GB 3G. It's $829 in the US, which at an exchange rate of 1.5 (£553) plus 17.5% VAT is already £649. So add import tax, duty and a sprinkle of UK Apple tax and is £699 really that much of a stretch?

Whatever, the precise price-point, it's going to be the greater part of 700 quid, without a doubt.

I was more shocked at your £549 for the 16GB 3G.

I'm hoping for the following:

16GB WIFI - £389
32GB WIFI - £449
64GB WIFI - £549

3G wise add about £90 on.

Have just seen a twitter post saying PC World Apple area systems showing £399 for base model.

Hope that tweet is true.

Also 32gb at £449 would tempt me away from the base model. Near £500 would not. The wait for actual prices is agony.

perhaps

Ha Ha got me there didn't see the perhaps and went rushing over to the site to pre order my uk ipada:eek::eek:

Oh well one day soon hopfully got a feeling :apple: going to wait till April 3rd to release rest of the world prices and dates!

You guys in U.S. are sooooo lucky!

It took more than 2 years for the iPhone to be released where I live in and Mac prices are twice as expensive in here than in the U.S. - you guys in the U.K. are sooooo lucky!

Clever Barbie!

Why stop there though ;)

Maybe that'll shut the whiners up.

April 26th is my birthday !!!! I'm really wanting the 32g but may have to settle for the 16g if it's too pricey!!

Well I am going for the 16 GB, simply because I am not bothered enough by having to occasionally sync to change what I want on it to justify paying a minimum of £75 (more likely £100). It just isn't that big of a grievance for me.

Also, congrats on the nice timing of birthday!

"It's not that big a grievance." Please let's not start adding 'of' where it doesn't belong like our American cousins. It will make me cry.

Sorry Sir... :( I guess I'll start on my 100 lines.

"I will not use Americanisms"

What's scary is I didn't even realise, so thank you for pointing it out

Just saw this:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/22/official-apple-now-offering-iphones-unlocked/

The US iPhone without contract follows the same pricing structure as the US wifi iPad. So I'm guessing the prices will translate across making the price for the wifi only iPad:

16GB: £349
32GB: £449
64GB: £549

Seems logical to me

Like that, nice price (at which I can currently afford the one I want) - and I like logical, but this is Apple and one would think it would be logical to have given us in the tiny insignificant UK a PRICE BY NOW !!!!!!
(takes deep breath)

Sorry, the wait is getting on my norks. As it is everyone else's who's waiting in the UK.
Do we think they're waiting to get them out in the US and then give us a price after then, or will we get a price before then ? I'm going with after. Just because the UK seems to be being sorely neglected (pouts) and nobody at Apple loves us anymore and we should go into the corner and eat worms.
;)

On the serious side, a price announcement for the UK after the US sale date along with pre orders would give a similar amount of time between the price announcement and the Apple UK timeframe of "late April" as the US bods have had between pre orders and getting the device in their hands. If that makes sense. If one were to take a guess at future behaviour based on a current MO.

It does seem logical except that the UK iPhone prices were set when the exchange rate was more favourable.

When the 3Gs was announced the rate was something like 1.6 (looking at my credit card transactions in the US at the time) but it's down in the lower 1.4s at the minute.
