surfing, movies, mapping....

Never owned an Apple before, but my wife has about taken over my laptop at home, so I figured I would buy one....

Basically any internet usage...reason for the 64GB wifi+3g ordering.

For what most people are mentioning they want their iPad for it appears to me that a MacBook Air would meet ALL your needs far better than the iPad is capable. Only drawback is the higher cost of the Air ...

For exisiting Air owners an iPad wouldn't be as exciting maybe?

I used to have MBA that I recently sold (i loved it) but, honestly I'd rather have a Macbook and an iPad over a Macbook Air.

They'd cost the same too if you went with a plastic MB and 16gb Wifi iPad

I plan to use the iPad, while taking a dump in the toilet, to surf the web and look at pictures of Bill Gates and the Beast Master.

I've noticed a lot of Apple enthusiasts on these forums. So I just wondered. Is anyone actually really gonna use the iPad cus in my openion it lacks some functions. Or are you just gonna buy it cus it's Apple? :)

Well I would'nt buy it if I did'nt have a use for it. I'll be using it as an Ebook reader, Comic Book Reader, VNC Client to automate some of my desktop functions. I will watch some vid on it, and do alot of Browsing.

my partner is really looking forward to getting one. She has an iphone which she LOVES and does everything on now, barely uses a laptop anymore. However, she just needs some more functionality like a word processor package mainly to make it more usable. I would imagine that she would be able to do 98% of her bits on the ipad

I do all the video/photography and music etc so it should be fine for her

For me the iPad fits comfortably between my Mac Mini and my iPhone.

My Mac Mini takes care of most of my computing needs, although it mainly gets used as a HTPC and at some point I would like to upgrade to a proper desktop. Having said that, being hooked upto my 42" HDTV, I do literally all of my web browing on the sofa anyway. And yet I STILL use my iPhone for casual browing etc. There are times, for no apparent reason at all, when I'll reach for my iPhone to check my mail even if I'm already on the Mini. Force of habit (I use my iPhone all day at work, too) or is it just that the touch screen, simple OS is an easier, more accessible and enjoyable way to access my content?

I've also been in the market for a Laptop for a while, but the iPad pretty much negates that need now. I've wanted some extra portable computing power above the iPhone for a while, but don't really need as much of a "full" experience as a Macbook gives you. For me, the iPad could be a great happy medium between the iPhone and a Macbook in terms of portable computing, especially as I do alot of blogging etc on the go.

I'll also soon be moving in with the missus, who is something of a telly addict, which means that so long as my Mac Mini is still hooked upto our main TV, I'm not going to be able to casually browse or waste time pottering about on the internet, as we'll both be wanting to watch TV. I can see the iPad being a great solution to that, aswell as something that the other half will use too.

I thought the point earlier was a brilliant one; "Can you see yourself using it?". The simple and short answer to that is, yes, I can, and therefore I am most deffinently interested in buying one.

- Surfing
- E-mail
- TV Guide
- Newspaper
- E-books
- VNC client
- Checking Mac mini server stats

All of that on my sofa :)

Don't need a Notebook for that.
It will fit nicely between my 27" iMac & iPhone

I've been reading through these posts and am on the fence myself. I'm not jumping on the ipad, but I can see how people want to use it now.

I have reserved the 16gb Wifi iPad so I have time to decide whether or not I want one before April 3.

Netbook replacement: I've used netbooks and they are awful. I would love to watch youtube and hulu on the netbook, but they are too slow to do so. So the point of having flash doesn't matter really.

Around the house: I'm in the market for a laptop as we just bought a house and my desktop will be in one room. I don't want to have to go in that room all the time when I want to browse the web or look something up. I have a Nexus One, but the screen on a smartphone is small and I can't really give it to my wife and have her operate or look at it and browse the web. With an iPad I could show her what I'm looking at a lot easier.

I had a macbook pro and an imac before. When I had both, I couldn't really get the hang of having my photos and music on both computers. It's just hard to manage the libraries, knowing what is where, etc. I like everything to be on my desktop iMac. I know I could just use a macbook and not put photos and everything on it, but if I'm going to do that and just use it to browse the web, then I could SAVE $500 and get the iPad.

Instead of laptop: So I'm looking at it as instead of spending $1200 for a 13" MBP, spending just $500 for the iPad. Sure it's not going to hold everything, and it can't multitask, but I'm not buying a laptop. I probably won't put much music on it, and only a few videos. Most of it will be photos and apps.

I plan on using my while sitting in my recliner watching TV or play Video Games.

Probably main use though will be at work while I'm in my office to play music or movies and to also use during bathroom breaks:D

I want one in my car

I have always wanted a car computer. This is perfect size and cost. I just need to come up with a mounting option. It could play videos, music, pandora, etc. It should be able to do some vehicle diagnostics. And ultimately be a great GPS device.

reasons for me to get the ipad
1- its by apple
2- its the latest gadget
3- actual use

Things I will use my iPad for
1- show it off:D
2- school work, use instead of textbooks, general notetaking, replacement for notebooks(paper ones)
3- use on small trips, instead of a laptop plus ipod
4- games
5- epic video playback
6- general around the house web surfing

I've got a desktop I use for email and a file server. I've got my MacBook Pro 17" for everything else. I intend to use my iPad for surfing porn, reading a periodical or book a little, surfing porn, and web surfing while taking a dump.

E-reader, primary internet browsing tool and games. I spend a fair amount of time on the couch due to knees that'd get a racehorse shot, so having something lighter (and, in summer, cooler) to do my interneting on would be really nice.

They kept the interface simple for ease of use. I edited my last post with a list of ArtStudio's features. Many people consider it to be the closest thing to Painter on iPhone/iPad.

ETA: You can draw with a finger, but I use a Pogo Sketch.

Around the house...email, web, facebook, movies, games...the kids will use the crap out of this thing.

Work...great for presentations.

Can't wait to see what the dev guys will come up with with the larger screen and much more capable A4 chip.

And I love cool gadgets, and this thing is a cool gadget.

I'll use it for the same I used my laptop for.

Surf the net, update my sites, email, social networking, some games, some work, etc..

As I have yet to watch a movie all the way through on my iPhone 3GS or my 1st gen iPhone I had for 2 years. I somehow don't see that happening on my iPad either. Other then when I fly.

Then again it's a bigger screen so who knows.

Things are about to get really interesting.
