I don't usually post these sort of threads, but I'm shocked at the amount of disappointment for the iPhone this year. It's an S year, so we all knew it would be spec bumps. The 6.5 inch screen was enough for me to buy it, as I gave up my 7 Plus for the X last year, and where the X is a great size screen, I have missed the bigger screen for my daily use.

I can't wait for the XS Max for screen alone, BUT I also get 512 GB of storage, stereo audio recording and playback, faster LTE speeds, a faster processor, the A12 Bionic chip for better computation photography and AR, Better camera experience overall, IP68 water resistance, faster Face ID (And hoping the horizontal Face ID is working?)

Anyway, these are not new show stopping features, but it's enough to excite me for this years phone. I think people expect massive innovation every single year, and where the current phone can do just about anything we need it to, the REAL performnce is in the software. Shortcuts will change the way I use the phone as well.

Where's the love at?

With the Xs Max, the main disappointment was the price. As someone else pointed out, Apple's flagship is now 30% more expensive (at a minimum) than just a couple years ago, which is astonishing. My $849 6s Plus has lasted me three years, so to justify the Xs price without accepting lower value-for-money I'd have to keep it for at least four years.

With that being said, improvements are alright for an s year, and the larger screen is something that current iPhone Plus owners wanted to see as well.

I’m excited. I have had the 7plus for two years and after have practically the same style of phone for four years (iPhone 6 and 7) I am very excited for a new look and wireless charging. I thought about the X when it came out but couldn’t justify the price AND the smaller screen size. So yes, cheers to the XS MAX and I cannot wait to receive my 256Gb gold in the mail

If I hadn't just switched carriers and was within my return window I probably wouldn't have upgraded from my X, however I am definitely looking forward to the larger screen. I went with the 64gb (as my current X has 47gb free still), but think maybe the 256 might have been more ideal as I actually plan to keep this one for a while.

The disappointment is most certainly about the price and the base storage. I just can't fathom spending $1600 on a phone when you include tax as you just did. That's more than most people spend on their full computer which is far more capable than a phone.

You're not wrong. My 2018 MbP was....2300 after my discount and no taxes in Oregon... A fully maxed out Max isn't too far behind. It's kind of crazy.

I pre ordered the Xs Max 64 gb and I am very excited but I am not sure if I will keep the device. After the keynote I had 1000 questions...

Horizontal FaceID? Split View on the Max? Speed of FaceID? etc.

Glad I’m not the only one excited.

I saw that a few of you went with Leather. . . @BasicGreatGuy too I think. I ended up going with the Horizon Blue silicone. It seemed that the leather cases on the X were slippery. . . Maybe they just need to break in? My Horizon arrives Wednesday.
The leather is slippery at first. After about 2 weeks, it firms up and has a good grip to it.

f there was horizontal Face ID. I'm sure it would have been in the release. thats a huge feature

I will say that I liked how much easier the leather was to slide into my pocket. The silicone does tend to be a little harder as it grips the fabric.

Pencil support would have been cool but I am not sure how often I would have used it. Having the pencil would have also made for a awkward leather carry case. Hard enough to slip into the pocket with the plus size in jeans. lol
The struggle is real. I feel bad for women. Their pockets are even smaller. Zero chance of it fitting in there.

I never tried the silicone. I have been very pleased with the leather case. It has saved my phone from disaster a few times. And as you mentioned, it does slide into the pocket very easily.

I am not sure. Samsungs new Tab S4 has horizontal face unlock. so I think it is nothing special. I guess Apple will keep this as a "big thing" for the XI

For those excited about preparing to ship, the Note 9 had a similar situation and it never transpired. You'll get your phones next Friday. As far as price this phone will likely have huge resale value because prices don't go down on something like this. And if you have a Next like plan the change in monthly payment is pretty small. IMO. YMMV. Etc etc.

I'm excited for mine to arrive aswell. I did miss a huge screen by using the X this year, for me a huge screen is much more enjoyable for media consumption. It's just too expensive and that's why people are disappointed because if it keeps at this rate we are going to have iPhones starting at $5000.

As fas as arrival, you are correct. It is fun to interact with those who come out of 'lurk mode' with new phone releases. Once it is over, its back to talking with the same folks, as the lurkers go back into the shadows.
