I have been using iOS 12 developer from the beginning, and it has been a pleasure.

iPhone XS Max + iOS 12 = happy in tech land.
I got the Mojave public beta for my personal macbook, but I've kept on the official current software for my work computer, phone, and watch. I'm looking forward to Monday to give iOS 12 and Watch OS5 a shot.

Rather get a Note9 in that size and price range. At least I can take photos using the S-Pen. Too bad I'm not a Samsung fan. Only thing I ever liked from my S7 edge is Samsung Pay. MST > NFC.

I've owned the Note 3 and V20. I just never liked using those surfboard phones. The XR is close to the height size of the LG G5 and S7 edge. That's my limit for phone size. Around 150 mm in height. Anything taller, and it becomes cumbersome to handle.

Well honestly, I was SUPER EXCITED for the X when it came out and then SUPER disappointed so maybe this time with the MAX it wil be difference I am hoping? Sometimes the best phones are those with least amount of hype to be very honest. I really thought the X was inadequate .... for my. Needs.... mainly due to the small screen size.....

I'm excited for mine to arrive aswell. I did miss a huge screen by using the X this year, for me a huge screen is much more enjoyable for media consumption. It's just too expensive and that's why people are disappointed because if it keeps at this rate we are going to have iPhones starting at $5000.

Same here.

I agree. The price was the disappointment, other than that I think it is a stellar phone, and I am excited to get min Friday. I don't think Apple under Tim Cook's management is making the right decision in regard to cost. The cost of the iPhone should never have gotten this high. It is ridiculous, but what are you going to do? You either buy it or you don't. While I would like to say screw Apple, I really want the phone and as long as I can afford it, I will buy it.

As the months wear on, I'm sure the outlook will be more positive. The most negativity always seems to be at the beginning of a new Apple product release. As you continue through the product cycle, Apple products (usually) get more positive reviews, more positivity about them in general, and towards the end of the cycle, will be hailed as one of the best products of the year.

Just look at the iPhone X. FaceID, the notch, and the price got so much hate. There were the usual doom and gloom naysayers ("Apple has lost its way," "Apple isn't the company I thought it was," etc.). Now, FaceID seems to be growing in favoritism over TouchID, people seem to not mind the notch for the most part, and the price is still high, but less shocking now. The X is regularly one of the most highly recommended phones on tech review sites. It has a very positive reception here on the forum now. The large majority of the negativity is gone.

You can really start seeing Apple products more objectively if you can learn to detach yourself from this negativity. It seems to be popular to hate on Apple these days. Don't get me wrong, some of it is warranted. The higher prices suck. The removal of the headphone jack, although a step towards a cool vision (better wireless audio, vision of a completely wireless phone), is frustrating. Dongles and completely USB-C MacBooks are also frustrating. But the negativity bandwagon is unwarranted and discourages one's own objective perspective on new Apple products.

Pre-orders and backed shipping dates show that there is no disappointment.
Yup, goes to show why Apple treats MacOS as the red headed stepchild. For about $300 more than the loaded Xs Max, you can get 27 inches of 5K screen surrounded by 20lbs of aluminum and glass. The profit margin on the Xs Max has got to be huge considering the R&D for the FaceId module has already been paid for by last years X. 512gb of eMMC flash is also less than $100 these days so storage isn’t anything special either. I’m also quite sure Apple pays much less to make the A12 vs buying CPU’s from Intel. And we haven’t gotten to the screen price comparison yet.

But can you fit that in your pocket?

I’m excited. I have had the 7plus for two years and after have practically the same style of phone for four years (iPhone 6 and 7) I am very excited for a new look and wireless charging. I thought about the X when it came out but couldn’t justify the price AND the smaller screen size. So yes, cheers to the XS MAX and I cannot wait to receive my 256Gb gold in the mail

I’m in the same boat exactly and I’m excited for the iPhone Xs Max 256 GB gold as well.

I don't usually post these sort of threads, but I'm shocked at the amount of disappointment for the iPhone this year. It's an S year, so we all knew it would be spec bumps. The 6.5 inch screen was enough for me to buy it, as I gave up my 7 Plus for the X last year, and where the X is a great size screen, I have missed the bigger screen for my daily use.

I can't wait for the XS Max for screen alone, BUT I also get 512 GB of storage, stereo audio recording and playback, faster LTE speeds, a faster processor, the A12 Bionic chip for better computation photography and AR, Better camera experience overall, IP68 water resistance, faster Face ID (And hoping the horizontal Face ID is working?)

Anyway, these are not new show stopping features, but it's enough to excite me for this years phone. I think people expect massive innovation every single year, and where the current phone can do just about anything we need it to, the REAL performnce is in the software. Shortcuts will change the way I use the phone as well.

Where's the love at?

I couldn't have said it any better myself, I agree with 100% of this! I am so excited for this Friday to finally have such a large screen phone with such amazing specs in a gorgeous new color. Well done Apple!

I do agree, and yet Numbers dont lie, this is the least significant upgrade in iPhones history. Usually Apple brags about numbers each new A CPU being 2x faster than previous. And the A12 is just 15% Faster than the A11. Thats pitiful.
The camera stays at 12MP I think Apple has never neglected to update its camera until now.
They literally added Zero New Features

Max has the biggest screen of any iPhone ever, doesn’t it?

They did clearly upgrade the camera. Improving a camera isn’t about just the size of the MP

Better Portraits, Super HDR, Stereo Video Recording, I don't recall any other camera upgrades besides these. I was hoping to see something like the S9's smart aperture feature.

I’m PUMPED! I only got the 64 gb because I’m not making a tiny dent in my 256 8+, but I am really excited about the phone, and I wasn’t even planning upgrade because I REALLY like my 8+ and my Touch ID. I just decided I needed to go ahead and get with the Face ID program, and when they announced the bigger phone (basically the size of my 8+ that I love), I knew that’s what I would get.

Can’t wait til Friday! I swapped my work day to Thursday so I can be here all day waiting! ;-p

Apple’s increased pricing put a huge damper on the excitement for us this year. My wife needs to upgrade her 64gb 6s plus (needs more storage and prefers larger screen).

So 256GB Gold XS Max is ordered for pickup 9/21. $1249 is the same price as the DJI Mavic 2 drone that my wife won’t let me buy.

If she isn’t impressed, the $1323 (after taxes) goes back into our bank acct, and I am ready to buy a used 7 plus or 8 plus for half the price. The money saved will allow me to keep a new Moncler jacket I bought for $868 (as of now my wife wants me to return it).

I think it looks amazing, but I made a commitment to myself that I would never pay more than what I paid last year for the X 256gb.

$1249 (256gb) goes over that limit, so I pass. Maybe next year, or during a sale somewhere.

I finally decided to actually cancel my pre-order entirely and it was difficult to pull that button and lose my shipping spot lol. Few reasons:

1. The price. I simply cant justify paying that much for a "phone" that is going to essentially have the same OS I'm already currently using. I even convinced my self the price wasn't too bad at first, but with the qualms of #2 and #3, I couldn't rationalize being uncomfortable at that price.

2. Weight. The XS Max is 20 grams heavier than my already heavy 7 Plus. At times my wrists get tired from holding the phone up and I simply cant imagine getting an even heavier phone. This is one area that hit me the hardest when the XS Max was announced. Lighter would've been best, same weight is doable, but heavier? I can't.

3. Size/pocket-ability. Having the larger screen has always been an added benefit, but im starting to realize that for me, its not worth the trade off of being able to pocket the phone. Its one of the things I miss about my 6. Its just so lumpy in my front pocket and dont feel safe keeping it in my back pocket when i'm out especially in crowded places like concerts, events, etc. It feels exposed. Although the Max is less wide and shorter than the Plus, that is cancelled out once you add a case which I would've done anyway.

Having the size of the X is perfect because I still get the same Plus size screen, but I get it in a smaller form factor with the addition of FaceID and the OLED screen. I know I will miss the battery life but I generally fair out ok in that department. I'd rather play with the Max in the stores first and hopefully make a better, clear decision. Hope you all enjoy your phones when they arrive!
