I preordered gold Max for pickup next Friday, but can’t seem to be too excited about it. I think the price turned me off even though I could easily afford it. Maybe I’m just getting old and not hugely excited about tech in general as I used to be :(
Nah, same here. For $1400 sapphire or something would make it sting less.

Glad to finally have my phone and Apple Watch match though, the polished SS edges are infinitely more premium than anodized aluminum.

The price hurts a bit but I did order a 256gb max (I hate the name). I was excited to get the future X “plus” when the x came out in 2017 but I knew they were going to come out with a plus version a year later. I’m excited actually. Looking forward to learning about this phone. Total came out to 1400 with tax and a iPhone leather case. It was more than my 2017 MacBook Pro 128gb laptop. That’s crazy. I gotta keep this phone at least 3 yrs.

Does anyone know if the Xs MAX will support Split View? I haven't had the luck of finding an answer.

The leather is slippery at first. After about 2 weeks, it firms up and has a good grip to it.

Ive had leather previously for many phones, got leather last year for the X. It never got rid of the slippery feel. I feel like they had to have changed something in their creation process of this leather. I cannot recommend the leather anymore after my experience with the leather last year. Silicone all the way now.

Apple’s increased pricing put a huge damper on the excitement for us this year. My wife needs to upgrade her 64gb 6s plus (needs more storage and prefers larger screen).

So 256GB Gold XS Max is ordered for pickup 9/21. $1249 is the same price as the DJI Mavic 2 drone that my wife won’t let me buy.

If she isn’t impressed, the $1323 (after taxes) goes back into our bank acct, and I am ready to buy a used 7 plus or 8 plus for half the price. The money saved will allow me to keep a new Moncler jacket I bought for $868 (as of now my wife wants me to return it).
By the looks of your profile and pic I think you can get it ;) haha

Ok, lets talk man to man. You listed many things...smart words such as bionic, computational and etc. So how is your life is actually changing thanks to them, practicaly, pragmatically thanks to all these smart marketing slogans? Lets talk.

I don't usually post these sort of threads, but I'm shocked at the amount of disappointment for the iPhone this year. It's an S year, so we all knew it would be spec bumps. The 6.5 inch screen was enough for me to buy it, as I gave up my 7 Plus for the X last year, and where the X is a great size screen, I have missed the bigger screen for my daily use.

I can't wait for the XS Max for screen alone, BUT I also get 512 GB of storage, stereo audio recording and playback, faster LTE speeds, a faster processor, the A12 Bionic chip for better computation photography and AR, Better camera experience overall, IP68 water resistance, faster Face ID (And hoping the horizontal Face ID is working?)

Anyway, these are not new show stopping features, but it's enough to excite me for this years phone. I think people expect massive innovation every single year, and where the current phone can do just about anything we need it to, the REAL performnce is in the software. Shortcuts will change the way I use the phone as well.

Where's the love at?

The real deal is that it seems no matter what Apple does these days you have those folks that are just never satisfied. They lay down all these expectations and then when Apple doesn't do that, they get all rambunctious about it. The one thing I can say about Apple is they don't always get it right, but they get it right more often than not and surely more than many of the other companies out there. You take Samsung.. they will throw some tech in a phone just to be able to say they did it first or they have it already and it works like crap. I've seen that time and time again. Apple will wait till they get it right and even then it's not always perfect, but you know they will work on it and you'll get a freaking update a few times a year to make sure. These others half the time don't even fix critical security issues.

I do think Apple is greedy... they charge too darn much for most everything... but they have this magic profit margin they are always striving to hit. I hate that as a consumer, but for share holders that is what they are suppose to be doing.

The only product I've purchased from Apple that I have not really loved is the MacBook Pro with the crappy keyboard. That keyboard is pure junk and some idiot at Apple should be slapped on the side of the head and then Tim Cook slapped for not overriding them.

Yes, but it is a bit awkward holding an iMac in your hand while ordering at Starbucks
A computer the equivalent of my IPhone 6S in the 1960’s would fill a stadium. It isn’t a phone to me - it is the easiest to use computer I own. It also fits in my pocket. I’m sure there is equivalent markup in mass produced desktop computers. I’ll bet my keys would scratch the hell out of my iMac screen.

The XS Max offered one thing for me that I knew would be compelling enough last year when rumors started to surface, and that was the 6.5 display. I just like seeing more content on a larger display and then add an OLED panel, sold for me.

For me the price for iPhone XS Max is to high. My 6S Plus was about 800 pounds and it was also more than my 4S. Apple is getting really expensive with their flagship phones.
I sometimes think that 6S Plus is too big, most of my friends have smaller iPhones like 7 or even SE. I decided to go with XS and I hope I will not regret it.

But... Someone said here that iPhone XS Max 512GB costs like an iMac... Well don't go there :/ . iMac is TOTALLY different than iPhone. I know, I own both. Can you take iMac outside? Not really, it has to have it's own place in the house. And remember - nice case for iPhone is 45 pounds, the desk and chair is like 300.

I have bought every single iPhone under Jobs.

Under Cook I’ve bought 1.

I believed in what Apple stood for under Jobs. I don’t believe in what Apple stands for under Cook. I won’t pay these ridiculous prices knowing he is just chasing $$ signs.

Bro, $60 a month for a phone? Are u kidding me it’s a PHONE.

It does. It was shown in the keynote.

IMO this counts as landscape mode. You can find split view on an iPad:

I have the X and absolutely love the size and it's a great phone. I'm disappointed that the Max doesn't support universal landscape mode which was my biggest frustration with the Plus models. I loved the apps that supported landscape (Notes, Messages, Safari, Mail) but not all apps supported it. It was a pain to be browsing in landscape with Safari, but then have to switch to Portrait to check Facebook or eBay. And several years later those apps STILL don't support landscape. It got to a point that I just locked it in Portrait Mode which defeated the purpose of the larger phone.

If the Max was more iike an iPad (I could even deal with FaceID only unlocking in Portrait), I would've been all over it.

I finally decided to actually cancel my pre-order entirely and it was difficult to pull that button and lose my shipping spot lol. Few reasons:

1. The price. I simply cant justify paying that much for a "phone" that is going to essentially have the same OS I'm already currently using. I even convinced my self the price wasn't too bad at first, but with the qualms of #2 and #3, I couldn't rationalize being uncomfortable at that price.

2. Weight. The XS Max is 20 grams heavier than my already heavy 7 Plus. At times my wrists get tired from holding the phone up and I simply cant imagine getting an even heavier phone. This is one area that hit me the hardest when the XS Max was announced. Lighter would've been best, same weight is doable, but heavier? I can't.

3. Size/pocket-ability. Having the larger screen has always been an added benefit, but im starting to realize that for me, its not worth the trade off of being able to pocket the phone. Its one of the things I miss about my 6. Its just so lumpy in my front pocket and dont feel safe keeping it in my back pocket when i'm out especially in crowded places like concerts, events, etc. It feels exposed. Although the Max is less wide and shorter than the Plus, that is cancelled out once you add a case which I would've done anyway.

Having the size of the X is perfect because I still get the same Plus size screen, but I get it in a smaller form factor with the addition of FaceID and the OLED screen. I know I will miss the battery life but I generally fair out ok in that department. I'd rather play with the Max in the stores first and hopefully make a better, clear decision. Hope you all enjoy your phones when they arrive!

This is actually well thought out reasons, and I can fully understand and agree with this. I can see it being an issue for some in weight and size, for sure!

As I said, the larger screen is the sale for me, the rest is toppings. I use my phone constantly, so the screen real-estate is going to be a great. I gave up the 7 Plus for the X, and I've missed the larger screen every day. So, with my camera, I use it to take photos for my business almost daily, so editing, and better photos are a huge plus, I will use. Faster is always better too. Even if it's minute, and the device feels a bit quicker over all, it helps move things along in a way where my brain will be happy. Stereo audio recording? Yeah, I use my phone to record my band all the time. This is also a huge plus for me. I use an external stereo Mic for this, and now It's one less thing I need to look after. It's not for everyone, but for me, this is the X I wanted last year, and it's exciting, and totally worth the upgrade for me.

I Figure ill give it a try. Of course I could just try it in a store, but there's too much noise.

Don’t forget about your s4 Apple Watch :)

I know darn well

Very true! I got my first leather last Sept for my iP8+ and was worried how slippery it was, the time frame is about right, 2, maybe 3 weeks (depending on how much you handle it) it had much more grip.

I DO love the silicone because that simply has incredible grip I think. The tiny downfall with that, you have it in your jeans pocket, coat pocket, etc. , the case will attract lint. Not really a deal breaker though.

Right now, I'm dying to get my hands on a case, AND my trusty Zagg screen protector - never had a complaint with that brand. Best Buy does have stock in,various other brands and nothing that excite me. no Apple cases yet. I REALLY have my eye on the Apple Forest Green leather. When I looked it up, I somehow came across this green case - I had to laugh, it reminds me of the "puke green Emoji"

But to me, it's not a phone. I use the actual phone part of this the least. It's for messages, quick searches, banking, ordering my medication, getting directions, playing my music, turning off my lights, taking photos, posting to social media... It's a small computer in my pocket, I use all day, every day, that I occasionally make calls on. That's how I can justify the price. I actually USE this phone a LOT, for soooooo much more.

Never said proud. It's a useful tool that's become part of all our daily lives. It has simplified many tasks. I don't sit and ply games on my phone all day, it's actually used for actually things. Instagram and Facebook is all about marketing both my business and my band, so it's important to be connected in that way. Regardless, It's a personal choice.
