I saw that a few of you went with Leather. . . @BasicGreatGuy too I think. I ended up going with the Horizon Blue silicone. It seemed that the leather cases on the X were slippery. . . Maybe they just need to break in? My Horizon arrives Wednesday.

I wear a lot suits, so leather matches well, and slips in and out pockets with much more ease compared to silicone.

And it’s surprisingly durable.

I'm excited for my gold Xs Max 256GB to arrive, although I'll be out of state when it arrives. It's replacing my three year old 6S. I wanted the bigger screen and this will be a huge upgrade for me. I weighed the pros and cons of the Xr since I could have gotten that for a lot less money. The Max won and now my checkbook has a lot less money in it since I paid for it outright. :)

I don't think there is any doubt that the Max will be an absolute beast of a phone. The only downside I see, of course, is the price.

I preordered gold Max for pickup next Friday, but can’t seem to be too excited about it. I think the price turned me off even though I could easily afford it. Maybe I’m just getting old and not hugely excited about tech in general as I used to be :(

I previously stated I would never give $1K to apple for a phone but I justified it this time as the XS Max is what I was looking for last year, and I will probably keep this phone 2 years longer than I originally would have. My only hang up is it being heavier than my 7 Plus.

Glad I’m not the only one excited.

The XS Max is exactly the phone I wanted LAST year, being used to a Plus size since 2014, I did get 8+, but DID get the X in mid Nov. Nice phone...I just missed the plus size, also the landscape mode which I always use. I retuned the X in Jan and hoped Apple would release the bigger size later. And it did. Im excited just from the hands on videos, it looks beautiful. My friends think I'm nuts for buying it, if I'm "nuts" well so be it! lol

The order status. I like that! Usually I see Processing for days..and many, like myself think
"Ok, Id like to see some movement on this!!" I remember the 6+ was like that.

Never see "Prepare to Ship" until Tues...maybe Wed! - Suddenly it just moves.
My iPhone 8+ actually came from Harrisburg last year, at least thats what the status said. Never said it came from China, then to Alaska, etc etc.

The disappointment is most certainly about the price and the base storage. I just can't fathom spending $1600 on a phone when you include tax as you just did. That's more than most people spend on their full computer which is far more capable than a phone.

This is true, but this is how I justify the price in my own head... The phone has become the single most used device I own. It's with me 100% of the time, and it gives me freedom and access to everything I need, any time, any where. it's my music player, my navigation tool, my timer, my reminder, email client, camera... on and on. Where I DO have my MacBook Pro for my hard design tasks and work, the phone is invaluable to me, and almost my single most used "computer" so the price works itself out. For example, for as little as I actually use the iPad, I'd NEVER justify this price on an iPad, but for the thing I use this often, to make life easier and entertain me? It works for me... In my brain. haha

I hope with all the public outcry on the price they might start delivering them early.

I know that won’t happen...but it would nice.

The Midnight Blue leather case I bought last year was the first leather case I got, yes...it is slippery at first- I noticed that and was a bit concerned. It took about 2, maybe 3 weeks to "break it in" and that whole slippery feeling went away, it had grip. Only downfall with that particular case, was getting a few rain drops on it back in July. I know water and leather do not mix, but this was like acid!

It actually damaged part of the case near the top, I tried to clean it with a leather cleaner all I was doing was wiping away the blue dye!. Right now I'm back to my black silicone case - which STILL has an amazing grip, no fear of that slipping out of my hands at all.

I don't usually post these sort of threads, but I'm shocked at the amount of disappointment for the iPhone this year. It's an S year, so we all knew it would be spec bumps. The 6.5 inch screen was enough for me to buy it, as I gave up my 7 Plus for the X last year, and where the X is a great size screen, I have missed the bigger screen for my daily use.

I can't wait for the XS Max for screen alone, BUT I also get 512 GB of storage, stereo audio recording and playback, faster LTE speeds, a faster processor, the A12 Bionic chip for better computation photography and AR, Better camera experience overall, IP68 water resistance, faster Face ID (And hoping the horizontal Face ID is working?)

Anyway, these are not new show stopping features, but it's enough to excite me for this years phone. I think people expect massive innovation every single year, and where the current phone can do just about anything we need it to, the REAL performnce is in the software. Shortcuts will change the way I use the phone as well.

Where's the love at?

I am super excited. So is my wife. We're both getting ours on the 21st. :D

I kind of expected a “plus” version would be coming out and when the Max did I was still a bit apprehensive about the size since I had grown to love the X size. However, after receiving my screen protector for the Max and assuming it is the correct size I am extremely excited about it.

I personally think it was a massive innovation year. The whole S cycle bs is overdone at this point. The largest iPhone display ever, the new Xr, the larger screen Apple Watch, these are NOT S Cycle changes, these are innovation. The fact that Apple has upped the processing power of their neural engine means great things are coming on the software side, and I am excited about that.

To me, the is one of the best iPhone years ever, right after the 6 Plus and the iPhone 4.

Every single new iPhone launch, starting with the very first one, there has been a ton of negativity and predictions of doom and gloom both for the new device and for Apple in general. The sentiments are strongest and worst amongst the Apple community enthusiasts (and the haters who hang out amongst us whatever their agendas might be). You either get used to it and learn to ignore it, get into fights with all the naysayers, or abandon the community altogether. It’s unfortunate, but I have kind of taken the latter approach as MR has become much more toxic over the years; you can see it in the comments on new stories most clearly.

I’m excited about the Max; I am looking forward to that bigger screen. That’s enough of a reason to execute my iUP upgrade for me, honestly.

Probably not the best case for Seattle winters then. I had mine during the summer when there is no rain in sight.

btw: We need Wentz back at the helm. Foles is too streaky. I lived on 10th and Spruce for 14 years. Miss that place!

The max will sell like crazy. Can’t wait to get the bigger size and yes it’s the main reason I upgraded.

I'm excited for the Max (upgrading from the X). I have some questions still. Seems there's no extra row of icons like when we went from the 4s to the 5. Looks like a lot of apps will support landscape mode features, but only after unlocking and turning the phone on its side (different than the 8 Plus which can be unlocked and the home screen viewed in landscape). Mostly looking forward to the larger screen and the camera features.

Live and learn I guess. I've heard a lot of positive reviews for the Saddle Brown case, it will wear down and has a look of a worn baseball catchers mitt after 2, 3 months. I'll figure it out. This one rain fall in July was odd to do that, and this area has seen so much rain since Spring. - Then comes the snow...and eh, its never ending on the East coast..lol
______

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Wentz return. I know Foles finally got us the championship. But so far this preseason, Week one..eh he's more than a little erratic. I would LOVE to say a win against the Bucs is no problem tomorrow, I really can't think or say that right now. Depends which Foles shows up..the "Playoffs, SB Nick" or "recent Nick."

Bucs were oddly impressive last week. We also need our ace WRs back. Sproles, showing the age, he's out tomorrow w/ pulled hamstring.

And as for Seattle, that is a great great town!! I was there back in 1994.
Sure it looks better now a lot has changed, I have to get back there soon

This is where I’m disappointed. I guess that I simply assumed that landscape home screen would be an option (like the previous Plus models), not having thought about how that would (or wouldn’t) work with FaceID requiring portrait orientation.

The luster of landscape app support is lost on me when I can’t keep the phone in landscape all the time (e.g., mounted on the dash in my car).

Some people do Heroin (which I think is absurd). We techies do Apple. Much safer and more enjoyable with no bad side effects. :)
The only downside is having to endure the constant whining of people who think it is their god-given right that Apple release breathtaking new features every year.

One of the reasons that I'm upgrading this year is because it seems to be a year of refinement. Instead of a million new features, I'm betting they ironed out any kinks in the entire manufacturing process and components, and the software will work very well.

I have been using iOS 12 developer from the beginning, and it has been a pleasure.

iPhone XS Max + iOS 12 = happy in tech land.
