Im going to think twice before purchasing a mac =(..

well i loved the OS of the mac...
i loved the looks of the mbp and how fast it is and the fact that it does get viruses...
it has LOTS of coool graphics software and widgets and multimedia stuff yo uwill not find on windows...for sure would make my life easier as im SICK of my win xp pc.....
BUT...surfing in this website and others made me change my mind...
1-msn got much bugs.
2-my Logitech quickcam pro 5000 seems like it will NOT work..
3-MANY people are talking about how slow it is to get files from a flash usb disk to the mac...or getting files from an external HDD...

..im afraid that i pay all the money for the 2.4ghz mbp and sell my current windows laptop then regret it...and wish i didnt do this!! ...it would be a bigg lose of money-for me-...

1. Use Adium. Works on the MSN network better than Microsoft's own MSN Messenger for the Mac.

2. No big deal; your MBP will have an iSight built into it.

3. I've not had problems using a FireWire hard drive nor a USB 2.0 flash drive. Always fast enough for me.

I have not experienced this problem with my MacBook Pro.

I think I'll add that people are much more likely to post about their problems then when they're happy. What might look like over half of the people having problems, could only be about 2% of the people.

2. The built-in (webcam) iSight is most likely better or = to your Logitech quickcam pro 5000
3. I've never had slow transfer times from an external usb/firewire drive and I can't imagine how fast it would be if I used fw800

IMO I don't think you got anything to worry about.

1. Of course it does. It's a Microsoft product. As others have suggested Adium is the way to go.

2. The MBP comes with a built-in camera.

3. I think this is just false. I transfer stuff between Macs and PCs all the time with flash drives and haven't encountered any speed problems at all. I also use an external drive to clone my machine on a weekly basis. Again, no problems.

hmmm msn works fine in windows because its made my microsoft.
logitech is alright. but the best? thats debatable. the isight is just as good, if not better.
i've never had a file transfer problem. remember, not everything you read on the internet is true.

Yes, that is important -- base the purchase of a top-of-the-line machine on whether the $50 peripheral can be moved over .... The MacBook Pro has a built in Web cam...

What are you talking about? That's just not correct information.
Flash USB drives are relatively slow on all platforms. USB is USB. And Firewire, which is standard on the Mac, is about 2 x as fast as USB 2 in real-world file perfomance.

If you are going to make a decision of this size, at least get the right information first.

And if you come to a Mac forum and post a angry/sad icon post saying how you're not going to get a Mac because there are so many things wrong, you can expect your reasoning to be criticized.

However, if rephrase your post to say something like:
"Thinking of buying a Mac but have some questions
Hi, I'm thinking of selling my Windows machine and getting a MacBook Pro, but I have some questions to be answered before I spend the money:
1) How can I do MSN effectively? I've been reading reports of problems with the MSN for Mac.

MSN for Mac is completely different from the MSN for Windows. But don't worry, Adium is perfect. It only misses video capabilities, but asido from that, it is even better than the MSN for Windows.

The iSight would be more than enough, and being buil-in is just much better.

Never heard about the slow transfer thing.

Your Logitech is a 0.3MP (640x480) camera. The iSight in the new MBP is actually capable of 1.3MP (1280x1024).

As for the slow file transfers, it just simply isn't true in my experience. What's your source for this information?

and by the way thanks for teaching me how to talk O_O...i honestly was just pissed cause i know i will love a mac and i love all its features and stuff..so i was dissapointed about the webcam thing and thinks that i will probably face similar problems in future..buying usb stuff and they dont work on mac later ...

well thats not true..my logitech cam is 1.3MP as well =\ but it has great features like right light2(perfect light even in a dark room)[i care about it alot as i have a dark room painting)..thats why i hated the fact that i wouldnt be able to use it with mac..

The software was enough for me to switch... everything else that came with it is just an added bonus. Mac OS X is the best OS I have ever used. Vista is almost there, made me think about getting an Alienware Laptop with SLI... but I just HATE windows.

The iSight in my MacBook Pro is working great and the picture it takes is pretty good. I've had my MacBook Pro since October.

I really don't know where you're getting these figures from, but it helps when making an expensive decision like buying a new computer to not delude yourself and stick with the facts. I'm surprised that you would even need to use the Logitech drivers (which are, in my personal experience, not very well-coded), but I don't own a Logitech VX Resolution. I do own a Logitech G7 wireless mouse, however, and it works fine without Logitech's proprietary drivers. You could also try USB overdrive. Obviously some hardware may not be 100% compatible between the two operating systems, but you'll run into these same problems with certain hardware going in either direction (Windows -> Mac or vice versa).

Other than that, it seems that the other posters have certainly done their best to show that your reasons for not purchasing a mac are non-concerns so unless you have some other concern, I'd say this is pretty much a closed case.

I wouldn't call it crappy, but your contention was that iSight isn't as good. I was only trying to illustrate that you may not have all the facts.

As far as built-in cameras that stop working, I can't think of one good reason why that would be true. I know the older iSights were 640x480 like your Logitech, so it's very possible the actual camera was made by the same OEM. Just because one is housed in an external enclosure doesn't make it more reliable than one that's built-into a display bezel.

In any case, it sounds like you've been given some bad information. I encourage you to "get the facts" before you make your decision. It's your money, after all.
