I use MSN Messenger:Mac and haven't had a single problem. It works fine - file/transfers are great.

Only problem I had was that the Safari Beta caused it to crash, so uninstalled Safari Beta and Messenger is fine.

Only downside is that it doesn't support webcams, but MS will update that sooner or later if they want people to keep using their service; as it affects PC users talking to Mac users, not just Mac users talking to Mac users.

And the iSight webcam is bloody fantastic. 1.3 megapixel camera. What more do you want?

I'm sorry, you're thinking of spending a couple of thousand Dollars on a MBP but you thinking about not bothering mainly because of issue with IM software?

Why not save some money and just get a MacBook?

well i wouldnt ever get a macbook...the screen is smaller than i want ,the cpu is slow-compared with the mbp and the case suck..

Any text you can highlight, anywhere in the OS, you can then right click and search the selected text in Google. That's with standard, out-of-the-box Apple kit, no third-party stuff, and 10.4.10, although I'm pretty sure it worked .4.8 and .4.9 as well.

Cheers

Jim

this is just so,,,awesome! =D so can you choose what search engine you want to use-like yahoo or youtube-?

I'm sure I read somewhere on these forums that the built in iSight is only compatible with iChat. If that is true, then how is it possibly better than a third party camera?

MSN may be crappy on a mac because of Microsoft, but at least they make it compatible. I'm surprised the amount of people who complain about Microsoft and Windows, then go ahead and run it on bootcamp.

running it on bootcamp is pain! everytime i want to use msn i have to use the stupid freaky windows?! >_>

how could u let those little tiny problems stop you from buying your mac... there are ALWAYS work arounds

hmm,,,well honestly i would still buy a mac even if it didnt have msn or it didnt support a webcam!! i just wanted a solution for that...

Only Twice? Hell I Think Thousands Of Times Before I Buy My Next Mac

Lots of things to think about. Nothing to do with thinking about buying anything other than a Mac though. Your fear of Macs is based on false propositions and rumors that are simply not true.

And 10.4.0 and 10.3.0 as well. :) But you need to mention it must be a Cocoa app, not a Carbon one. (Here's lookin' at you, MS:Office)

whats cocoa and carbon??

Different programming environments. Carbon are older Mac programs, from OS 9 and updated to run under OS X. You don't find many of those anymore. Cocoa are newer programs, (well, relatively speaking) that run under OS X without any legacy code at work. Don't worry about it; 90%+ of the applications out there are Cocoa now.

Word/Excel/PowerPoint aren't. Photoshop isn't either, I don't think. But at least Photoshop is a Universal Binary.

hey you dont know how much i want that mouse XD....hope you will help by answering my quesitons:
*do all its functions work on your mac(scrool, search button,zoom..),what do you use the 2 buttons on its left for??
*does the battery stay for long enough?
*did the mouse ever stop working even for 1 min?
*worth the price? or better just go for a regular mouse?,,

I have that mouse and use it with my MBP all the time.
All buttons function normally. I use logitech control center.
The 2 buttons on the left is default at forward and backward, I left it that way.
Battery lasted about 2 months I think, can't remember the last time I changed them. Anyway, battery should be the same when used in PC or Mac.
Mouse never stop working, I used it for counterstrike too so mouse is very important to me.
It worth every penny (bought it for $5 after rebate).

Office and Photoshop will never be, but they really aren't carbon anymore either I don't think. They operate on the package system and such. I dunno what they'd be

Thanks alot for clearing it up =D

How many times are Mods going to have to merge your posts?

Devilot has edited and asked you to use multi quote a few times now.

hey oh my >_<....i didnt know that you can put them all together ....

I have been on a couple of your threads now, and I applaud you for doing your homework prior to your purchase.

Having said that, people get warped viewpoints by reading forums. It has ben said many times before that happy users of Macs, of which there are millions, rarely post online. They are to busy happily using their Macs. The people who post online tend to be those seeking support because of a problem.

Apple is currently selling millions and millions of Macs per year (I think it was 1.5 million last quarter alone). Half or more of their sales are laptops.

Millions of new Mac laptop owners each year are happy. A few dozen or a couple of hundred with problematic machines will post online every time there is a new release. Because they are the vocal minority though, people can be skewed into thinking there is a massive problem.

Rather than threads about "thinking twice" and worries about the problems (which are largely unfounded), if you need to know something post threads along the lines of "Here are my uses for my future Mac. What are the best ways to achieve these?"

The machines are great. Apple is quite accommodating if you do have a problem (I have even had a machine replaced because of 1 stuck pixel).

Quit worrying and start planning!

well i already started planning... =D

well said James L!!!!

i completely agree the number of problems with apple are that small. we need more people to post their success with their mac so that the ppl with problems will shutup and stop harrassing just cauz they had one little problem.

well i loved the OS of the mac...
i loved the looks of the mbp and how fast it is and the fact that it does get viruses...
it has LOTS of coool graphics software and widgets and multimedia stuff yo uwill not find on windows...for sure would make my life easier as im SICK of my win xp pc.....
BUT...surfing in this website and others made me change my mind...
1-msn got much bugs.
2-my Logitech quickcam pro 5000 seems like it will NOT work..
3-MANY people are talking about how slow it is to get files from a flash usb disk to the mac...or getting files from an external HDD...

..im afraid that i pay all the money for the 2.4ghz mbp and sell my current windows laptop then regret it...and wish i didnt do this!! ...it would be a bigg lose of money-for me-...
-_-

1. as everybody already said, its microsofts fault, adium is great instead
2. Who cares if your webcam wont work?
3. Those are the properties of the flash usb or the hard drive, nothing to do with the mac itself. To boot, it has firewire 800 which is more than 3x as fast as USB 2.0, so if you get a firewire 800 external drive it will go EXTREMELY fast
