all people who got the VX Resolution cordless mouse from logitech..which says''works with win xp and mac osx''..they installed its driver and it 90% of the time not working...when trying it on pc it works!....so thats a bit confusing..

So there is a crappy driver, so what? I have a Logitech VX Revolution and I use Steermouse instead, it works great. There aren't any crappy drivers on windows?

By the way, the VX Resolution does not say that it is Mac supported.

You can also find instances of Logitech support reps mentioning that the mouse is not Mac-supported on their forums, so this sounds like more of a 3rd-party support problem than anything else. That's not to say that the VX Resolution won't work, you may be able to get it at least partially working with something like USB Overdrive. My Logitech G7 does not say Mac-compatible so, while it isn't supported, I haven't had any problems using it with my MBP.

Stop worrying about stuff. Wherever you have been getting your info from, you need to stop listening to them. Any problems you believe exist almost certainly do not, or there is a practical and easy workaround.

Stop worrying, and go buy a Macbook Pro.

Hey logitech says its supported!! look at the specs tap in the same page it says:
System Requirements
Mac
Mac® OSX 10.2.8 - 10.4.7*
Available USB port
CD-ROM drive
Internet connection
...and its really painful to pay all the money for such a mouse and then it doesnt work the way its supposed to -_-

You are not correct, I busted out my VX Revolution box to prove that it is in fact supported.

its just i never payed 2,500$ on a laptop..so i been a little worried thats it...i think i shall stop reading the crappy threads until new mbp is available in my store...

hey you dont know how much i want that mouse XD....hope you will help by answering my quesitons:
*do all its functions work on your mac(scrool, search button,zoom..),what do you use the 2 buttons on its left for??
*does the battery stay for long enough?
*did the mouse ever stop working even for 1 min?
*worth the price? or better just go for a regular mouse?,,

Then Logitech itself is confused as to if the mouse is in fact supported or not. First of all, even though the box and text specifications say it is Mac-supported, for some reason they don't include the MacOSX icon in the little "Supported" section on the product page. Second, see this post on the Logitech support forums: http://tinyurl.com/2hv52y.

I think what Logitech means by "supported for Mac OS X" is really "some of the features work, but not all of them; sorry." In any case, this is an issue with Logitech specifically...not Apple. Of course (as I said before), I don't have a VX Revolution so I can't see for myself if it is just Logitech's drivers and something USB Overdrive will work.

That's a bit off topic, but yes all the buttons work. I find the battery life to be fine, the thing lasts for months on a single AA battery. And the only time it stopped working so far was when the battery ran out. I've uploaded a screenshot of what I use all the buttons on my VX revolution for.

looks pretty cool,,so can you use the search button to search a highlighted text in a spicific search engine?(just like logitech says)
-i know its very offtopic but better than opening a new thread for such a simple thing-

Not with steermouse. I'm not sure of LCC, but I was having too many kernal panics to be bothered to use that though.

Trolling?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using Adium instead of MS crapware.

Ext HDD have never ever been a problem with my Macbook. Actually, it works way much better and faster than on my winblows PC.

Web Cams - iSight is awesome and is currently the envy of my girlfriend and her brother too. They are 'stuck' with logitech and microsoft webcams.

:apple:

you can already pretty much do that with any mouse by right clicking in Safari i think (otherwise it's one of my many safari addons doing it for me...), so it wouldn't be difficult setting that up in an app like steermouse or the logitech drivers.

i have a mx revolution that has okay drivers, a little crash happy though.

You seem to be trying to talk yourself out of switching because you have a fear of the change. Let me tell you, I switched 7 years ago. Before the iPod. Before Apple was the "cool" company to be associated with. Before OS X. In September 2000. I switched not because Windows was horrible (I had 98 at the time, went to PCEXPO 2000 and got myself a Windows Me T-shirt from the MS booth, I didn't foresee my Mac future at this time.) but because I liked what I saw. I liked what the future looked like for OS X. It was coming out in a few months and Windows was in its Whistler stage. I picked OS X. Until I switched and got my OS 9 powered iMac DV+ in the mail the ONLY Mac OS I'd ever touched was System 7. I switched based on an OS that was 8 years old!

Your reasons for not switching are miniscule to what you could be on about. Adium would solve your IM problem. The iSight will blow your Logitech out of the water. And I don't know where you get your drive info. Switch. You won't regret it. Everyone has a little buyers remorse now and then. But if you stick with it you realize what you were missing all along.

I switched in late 2000. I haven't looked back. I kept my PC around for a year. After that it was gone. I was done. Completely switched. I converted a few friends too. Well, I converted one (Who fought me tooth and nail that Windows XP was tons better than OS X and hated Macs forever... until he emailed me one day and said he was going to MacWorld NY 2001 and was going to order his iMac.) and he converted a few of his own.

Think three times if you have to. I didn't have to. I jumped head first and loved every minute of it. All my problems were gone. And it's only getting better.

Any text you can highlight, anywhere in the OS, you can then right click and search the selected text in Google. That's with standard, out-of-the-box Apple kit, no third-party stuff, and 10.4.10, although I'm pretty sure it worked .4.8 and .4.9 as well.

Cheers

Jim

cheers :) I often tell friends and whatnot looking for some solution to their problem what to do and they can't find it, and it ends up that I had some third party plugin installed that added it for me or something, so I'm not very sure how to reply sometimes

I'm sure I read somewhere on these forums that the built in iSight is only compatible with iChat. If that is true, then how is it possibly better than a third party camera?

MSN may be crappy on a mac because of Microsoft, but at least they make it compatible. I'm surprised the amount of people who complain about Microsoft and Windows, then go ahead and run it on bootcamp.

..im afraid that i pay all the money for the 2.4ghz mbp and sell my current windows laptop then regret it...and wish i didnt do this!! ...it would be a bigg lose of money-for me-...
-_-

I'm sorry, you're thinking of spending a couple of thousand Dollars on a MBP but you thinking about not bothering mainly because of issue with IM software?

Why not save some money and just get a MacBook?

sorry but this is pathetic, how could u let those little tiny problems stop you from buying your mac..... i just find that idiotic. there are ALWAYS work arounds

It's not a matter of those little things getting in the way, it's a matter of being comfortable that you will be able to use your new toy to it's fullest and then some. I remember back in November, little tiny things like this held me back. It's like walking through a mine field. You never know what you're going to run into until you actually do.

I was in the same boat you are in 7-8 months ago. I was hovering between a top of the line Windows computer and a MacBook Pro. I actually was one click away from buying all the parts for a Windows computer. But then I thought. "You know what? I know I want to eventually get a Mac and make the switch. And what if a few years after I buy this Windows computer I want to get a new computer. I know I will want a Mac. But What if I choose the Windows computer again?" So I literally just went to Apple.com/store and bought my MacBook Pro.

During that first week I had a few regrets, but honestly those regrets were only because I was still finding my way around OSX. And since then I have never looked back. I love my computer to death. And the only thing I would give it up for is a Mac Pro. I couldn't be happier with my decision. I am glad I chose my MacBook Pro.

So I would say, make the jump. It may look like a huge leap, but it really isn't. I guarantee you that after you've made yourself comfortable you won't look back.

1-msn got much bugs.

MSN on the Mac has always been dead. Many would advise you to use Adium, but I can't reccomend it. It is more flexible in the sense that you can change the appearence of it into anything you like, but feature wise it's just as bad as Microsoft's offering.

I hope Microsoft sticks to their word and releases an A/V version of Messenger soon. Perhaps alongside Office 2008?

a little late on the scene, however...

1. as everyone's been saying, use adium http://www.adiumx.com because it's really great.
If video is important to you, then use aMSN http://cmq.qc.ca/4w/amsn/

2. try this page http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ for support for your webcam. i know your model isn't fully supported yet, but there are people working on it as i write this.

3. the person who told you this seems to have an isolated issue, because i agree with everyone else when i say that i've never encountered this problem.

hey chill out >_<,,,,
*well i think your right its microsoft's fault but remember that msn works perfectely on pc.....
*i cannot blame logitech its the best company ever for making cams...maybe they just hate macs so they dont make drivers for them ..
*well some people talked about the slow tranfer thing in some threads i read before couple days..

-Gee I wonder why MSN works on a PC  Use Adium or Fire

-iSight is better than any logitech I've seen, but even if this is the case, 3rd party driver Macam is great.

-Was probably some individual problem. There's no difference in sending files..drag and drop, very fast

-Needs less anime smilies in posts to make them readable

1. Use Adium. Works on the MSN network better than Microsoft's own MSN Messenger for the Mac.

2. No big deal; your MBP will have an iSight built into it.

3. I've not had problems using a FireWire hard drive nor a USB 2.0 flash drive. Always fast enough for me.

i agree but Adium has no web cam support. there is a client that does but i find it just horrible to use, its web cam image quality is rubbish and too slow. Adium with growl is very nice though, very nice.

iSight isnt as flexible as a stand alone webcam either

yeah i have had quite the opposit experience to what the OP is saying here...i couldnt believe how fast files went from my external media onto the mac book. very quick indeed.
