This weekend, and im Really looking forward to it. I hear that in like 3 weeks a revision might come out but i cant afford to wait because i need it for my job(I do Accounting with quickbooks and use AutoCAD to draw out some plans). This will be my first Mac ever and im really looking forward to it. Speaking of the Macbook pros that may come out soon I hear the only major update may probably be The LED screen. Whats so great about these? Well ima get the protection plan or something and hope my MBP stops working so they can send me a new one.

Anyways any Suggestions or anything would be apreciated(like what to know about macs and guides or basic stuff).

Thanks.

Your main reasong to wait for 3 weeks is not the LED screens, but rather the possibility of getting a Santa Rosa CPU in it. This would allow for more RAM, higher FSB, and (possibly) use of Robson (google it, it would take a while to explain).
But... if you can't wait, you can't wait. The C2D MBP is awesome.

I definitely think you should wait 26 days until WWDC, it is a place where things are released/updated.

Its been 204 days since a MBP update, while the average is 182 days.

There are other thinks, and LED backlit screens will increase brightness, colour clarity and best of all battery life.

Some people hope for:
NAND flash hard drives
Another form factor (12"?)
Santa Rosa (better battery life, speed increase)
Processor speed bump (and maybe a standard HD space increase, to widen the gap between it and the newly updated macbook)

Im gonna see what information gets released between now and this weekend and ill make my decision then. BTW how long does it take the laptop to get to my house if lets say i where to order it sunday?

3 to 5 days.
depending on where you live.

Wait till tuesday

I would wait one more week until Tuesday. I have posted this in a couple of threads, but a guy at a huge electronics store that sells apple said, (quoting from last Saturday) Macbooks will be this tuesday (which has just happened) and MBPs next Tuesday. This is what his supplier was predicting based on supplies and incoming shipments. Take it for what it is worth but I believe this guy.

Personally I'd be more interested in the LED displays. More ram? 3GB is plenty. Not like you have enough processor power to take advantage of like 8GB in a notebook computer (nor will there ever be 4gb sodimms in the near future).

No but surely 2 x 2GB would be worthwhile for those doing development of and using 64bit Apps?

Though for the OP its definitely not important for them.

Well me, personally im gonna get the 15" Low end macbook Pro with an extra Gig of Ram. Thats all I need. If i was in Need of a 4 Gig machine ill just add more RAM to my Desktop PC at home. well Unless something New comes out next Tuesday im getting that setup. Hopefully if Apple unveals the New MBP it will be within the 2 weeks that Apple lets you upgrade your MBP. I dont mind paying for the restocking fee since I am in need of a laptop right now.

I don't know. Is OS X even fully 64 bits?

Last I checked it seems to be a 32 bit OS with special extensions for memory addressing beyond the 4gb boundary.

Either way such uses are really specialised, how often do people need such functionality anyway? Definitely a lot less often than people who'd benefit from getting a Santa Rosa based Macbook with the new integrated graphics chipset; whom Apple has demonstrated that they are not afraid to piss off.

LED backlighting on the other hand is something that has been mentioned in the greenpeace statement, and let's face it, the current displays on the MBPs suck. I sold mine off solely on the basis of that, I will not buy a laptop with that kind of display under any circumstances.

Added +2 to my eye glasses over 4 months, thanks Apple, but no thanks.

Anyone have any idea how the 15 day grace period and the return policy is? i want to read in it so i dont get screwed over.

As long as you open the box and the machine is not at fault, you are not entitled to it. You can however return it for a 10% restocking fee (almost 300 dollars!)

Either suck it up and wait like the rest of us or buy and accept the consequences, stop trying to push responsibility elsewhere

Wow Just because you can afford to wait does not mean I can. The laptop Right now is something I need for my job in which i work everyday. Im not gonna wait 3 weeks for a maybe 5% increase in power. It doesnt matter to me. I think the MBP has enough Power as is and any extra power I need it would be something i can most likely do on my Windows Machine at home or the Windows machine at work.

Actually on numerous occasions when i have spoken to apple they told me that if i bought one and a new one was released within 7 days of mine arriving i was allowed to swap it. Maybe thats just an Apple UK thing. Would be worth you calling apple and asking

I think one of the nicest benefits (we hope at least) will be the LED LCD - that alone is worth waiting given the mediocre quality of current displays. Having said that, we don't know anything yet and who knows what will be introduced and what kind of problems it will have in the beginning. The current ones seem pretty decent, though there's much room for improvement.

Not here in Australia. A friend tried that yesterday because he bought a MB a week before the new ones were released, Apple told him it is buyer's remorse.

That's coz Aussies are hard as nails. We poms are a bit softer-hearted! :D

Shesh!! Wait To Purchase!!

Especially if you are using AutoCAD...Nvidia's new Quadro FX mobile cards are now available...if Santa Rosa and LED do not interest you, a dramatically improved graphics cards specifically made for running 3D apps on a laptop.

What's wrong with the current displays?

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I checked (6 months ago) they didn't make an AutoCAD for OS X. Are you planning to run bootcamp on it? If so you should definitely wait until Leopard (October) since the bootcamp is supposed to be built in.
