I don't give a damn about the notch.

However, your hatred for the notch is the exact same hatred I have for the fugly ass camera boil that has been a pox on the back of the iPhone since the iPhone 6. This is the single biggest reason I have never upgraded from the 6s to anything new.

So I've been living your decision since the 6s - just over the camera bump, not the notch.

Unfortunately, it seems Apple has no intent to abandon the bump so my next phone will be Android.

What I never get about this is that people either love it or hate it but are indifferent to the fugly boil that houses the camera on the back of the phone.

The notch is not intrusive and not really noticeable, but this they hate. The camera boil is totally noticeable and ruins the look of the phone but THAT they don't care about!

Sheesh!!!
I wasn’t a fan of the notch when the X was released. I ended up getting the max and now I couldn’t care less about it.

I didn’t like the camera design on the x either. But the rumored iPhone 11 with the Apple Watch screen on the back is by far the ugliest camera on any phone.

Top 6 notchless and bezeless smartphone video. Some have achieved a whopping 95% screen-to-body ratio.

The Xiaomi bezeless phone is 8.4 mm thick (iPhone X line is 7.7 mm). Not bad considering the slide mechanism. Surprised to see Lenovo in the top 6.
Do any of these phones have the sophisticated face id type of security? Pop-up mechanisms that house electronics? Those are, imo, terrible solutions.

I look at that rumoured rear camera design as being in sync with IOS App logo shape - Symmetrical front & back.

Maybe even @eyoungren will appreciate it :D
Ahhhh…no. :)

I've seen those rumors and while I had believed it couldn't get any worse I seriously underestimated Jony Ive. I don't know what his jones for camera bumps are but it's WAAAAY out of whack with my preferences in aesthetics.

I used to joke that eventually the iPhone would be all camera bump. But if this keeps up I don't think my comments back then will be a joke anymore.

It looks uglier every time I look at.

Before I got my iPhone X I wondered if I could get used to not having a home button after having one for so long and if I could get used to the notch. Both complete non-issues. I don't even notice the notch 95% of the time I'm using it.

The notch is a terrible design decision. Shame on Apple.

What should they do instead about the front camera though. I really barely notice it. I had to pick up my XR and look at it to make myself think about whether it bothered me.

I can see where app designers might not care for having to code around "dead spot in shape of notch" though. But that's a generic occupational hazard for lots of people at work, i.e. a muffin-tin manufacturer shrinks the bezels around the thing to save a little money,,,, and then the baker wonders how he will be able to grab it out of the oven without putting the edge of a potholder or a gloved thumb into the edge of a muffin.

in all honesty I dont notice the notch in day to day use. I think its onlookers who it bothers more.
That’s because you have more screen to look at which distracts you from the notch. :D

This is what people don’t get - they see it as screen being taken away when it’s more screen for the user. No amount of convincing will get through....

I’ve never understood this either. People should look at the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X. Does the iPhone X have more screen at the top or less?

I honestly don't think people really care about things like notches and camera bumps. The phone still looks great the way it is. Notch or no notch, it doesn't bother me because its in an "unused" area of the screen anyway. I do see how people could see it bothering them when you're watching videos in landscape mode, I don't watch videos zoomed all the way in anyway, as things tend to get cut off, and I can't stand that!

I have an iPhone X. Had it on launch. I look at all of the evolution happening on the Android side and can see where this is headed: the era of the notch will die. Maybe in a year, maybe two, not sure. But we're close.

The notch is terrible for a number of reasons and needs to die quickly.

What about you: take the poll and vote.

It isn’t actually terrible because it contains a lot of technology, it’s more annoying but you soon get used to it

Seems the strong majority don’t really notice the notch. I suspect that tech users on a site like this are far more particular about certain features with their smart phones, all the way from aesthetics to the battery life on a smart phone. Altogether, I really think the average consumer doesn’t care about a minimalistic feature about the notch on the display. They care about the user experience through [iOS experience, integration with other Apple devices and their security]. I suspect those three features are more priorities then whining about a notch.

Don't notice the "notch", for me it's an extension of the screen. I notice the cut-out on my S10+ much, much more.
