Because, imo, external moving parts on a phone is a worse solution than the notch. Why are they terrible solutions.
Movie screens, tv screens, computer monitors, laptops, tablets, even books/magazines for that matter, no notch.
I have had an Xr since the launch, great phone but I still hate the notch. Can't wait til it is gone, rather have a design more like the latest iPad pros. No notch. Other than a smartphone, name another media device with a designed notch.

When some people say "the notch is a non issue"', that's just their personal opinion. Just like some people say using a public outhouse isn't that bad.
I'm holding onto my 8+ until its gone. The notch was the biggest esthetic design failure in Apples history.
I’m holding onto my 8+ even after it’s gone.![]()
See you in late September for the 3a.m. online order for the new iPhones.I have an iPhone X. Had it on launch. I look at all of the evolution happening on the Android side and can see where this is headed: the era of the notch will die. Maybe in a year, maybe two, not sure. But we're close.
The notch is terrible for a number of reasons and needs to die quickly.
What about you: take the poll and vote.
See you in late September for the 3a.m. online order for the new iPhones.![]()
Pretty funny analogy, but true. Notch issue or non-issue? Both sides subjective at best. To me non-issue. I don't even think my spouse notices the notch on the Xr.When some people say "the notch is a non issue"', that's just their personal opinion. Just like some people say using a public outhouse isn't that bad.
You and me both. Going to sleep early on a day like that usually doesn't work for me. Makes for a long day but, it is worth it one day a year.Every year I think maybe this is the year where pre-orders will be at a time that doesn't wreck my night's sleep. Never happens.![]()
It isn’t actually terrible because it contains a lot of technology, it’s more annoying but you soon get used to it
Apple removes the notch and then what? How could people recognize that it's an iPhone without seeing the home screen or whatsoever? They won't remove it completely in my opinion.
Plus, have been "looking" at that notch since September - never actually noticed it's there. Don't understand why it's bothering you so much.
It's definitely more symmetrical than having a hole on the one side, like the Samsung Galaxy. We have a notch for the reasons you mentioned but I don't see it dying in Apple phones, not at least for the next 2-3 years. It’s not just me.
The notch causes physical asymmetry, which has unacceptable usability consequences. The only reason it exists is because the parts can’t be made small enough or transparent to be embedded in the glass.

Exactly, just like up until the X, Apple's "tattoo" was the phone with circle home button. It's recognizable everywhere. To me the notch is advertising for apple. Someone sees your screen with a notch, they'll know it is an iPhone.
The notch is like an apple tattoo on your forehead. You don't notice it but others looking at you will.
I am rather notchalant about the issue of the notch on the phone.
Thumbs up to Jony Ive on that one.To me the notch is advertising for apple. Someone sees your screen with a notch, they'll know it is an iPhone.
Ok, hyperbolic, but ok.The notch is like an apple tattoo on your forehead. You don't notice it but others looking at you will.
