Someone is really angry. A 14 paragraph post. Did we really need to know you are over Apple and the iPhone? Why is that important to us?

Apparently you deemed it important enough that you took time to read and respond to the post.

We all have opinions, and not everybody is going to agree with Apple and their current path. I can honestly say there is no other company in the world that brings the products that they do in terms of valuing the customers security, hardware standards and customer service. Those are three things I think that really made this company successful and will continue to evolve for Apple over the course of years to come.

When it comes to opinions on threads like this, my suggestion would be try not to read too deep into everybody says, just find what you appreciate about tech or Apple in general, and validate your own opinion.

I'm so over the iphone. Every year I vent on this site about my frustration with the lack of new features because I'm angry and hopeful that, on the off-chance, something will be done about it.

This year is no different.

How can I say it without sounding like a troll: Tim Cook has NFI. He started from a very high platform. He becomes CEO of the company which invented and makes arguably the greatest consumer product the world has ever seen, all thanks to Steve Jobs (RIP) and has since seen it progressively reduced to an overpriced, feature-starved, glorified emoji device.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but:

In 2014, the iphone came with with a big screen (cool) with very little else added to the iphone.

In 2015, Apple introduced 3D touch which had so much potential but was left to became effectively a shortcut menu. 3D touch is now, according to reports, on its way out.

In 2016, Apple introduced a better camera (an improvement, not to be confused with a new feature) but took away the headphone jack.

In 2017, Apple introduced Face ID, a biometrich which replaced another biometrich, again, an improvement rather than a new feature because it was a case of one security access feature replacing another, no new capability was added. It also polarised opinion as not everyone was/is a fan of Face ID. Oh, and we also saw anamojis, yipeeeeee.

And in 2018....a bigger screen and a spec bump.

And next year? Well at this rate Apple will be removing something from the iphone because that's the one certainty you get with Apple, for whatever reason, they remove features. Anyone remember the old Youtube app? Gone. Headphone jack, gone. 3D touch, probably gone. Apple giveth, Apple taketh away.

Back to Apple's go slow approach. When's it gonna end? I've had enough of it. In the last 5 iphone keynotes, we have seen improvements and spec bumps here and there, but nothing to make me go wow. When was the last time Apple added something which made the iphone do something it could never do before and which was innovative?

Now before people say "phones have stopped making people go wow" and "what do you expect from a phone", please spare me the comments. Those comments may have been relevant 2-3 years ago, but not now. In the last 5 years, we have not seen one major added feature to spruce life back into the iphone. And don't get me started on the years preceding 2014 and how slow the feature-adding was then too, albeit, better than the years post 2014.

The iphone has become a boring, bland device. If all we want from it is to read email, play music, text and consume media, which is what some keep saying, then why has it become so damn expensive? I have seen at least 5 phone reviewers say if you're going to spend a thousand dollars on a phone, then the Note 9 is the phone to buy. And that is no coincidence. Not kidding you, the Note line has left the iphone line behind. And I say this as an iphone user. After playing with the Note 9 in the store, it did make me go "WOW".

That is all.

Talk about deja vu.

I have to say that the specs of the Xs are good in fairness, if not the best and really it's not lacking in any area, cpu/gpu/oled/stereo speakers/Bluetooth/camera/face id/ram & storage/gigabyte lte/wireless charge/build and much more. All the above mentioned are the best available internals on the market, the only things that could have been improved is the design and i have to say that the 30 mins increase in battery compared to the x is really disappointing along with the ridiculous price tag.

It’s pretty much bleeding edge technology.

7nm processor with an 8 core npu, nvme storage, 3D facial recognition, the largest oled display, and stainless steel and glass chassis.

And one of the only phones on the market without a forehead or chin.

What more do you want from a smartphone? The ability to teleport you from place to place?

The tech has effectively peaked, and hardware updates are more focused on energy efficiency, rather than groundbreaking features.

Also, as I learned when studying Business/Marketing, all products have a life cycle, maybe the iPhone is in its mature phase.

Way too much text to say goodbye.

That's an understatement. The XS and XS Max are pretty much 2 years ahead of anything else on the market. Wait for the reviews.

Ya I'm no expert or anything but i do know there isn't better specs than what's in the Xs, if you were to net pick there are some things like maybe faster charging and reducing the notch some bit along with maybe another half a millimeter off the bezels but that wasn't going to happen with a s year, apart from them things the most disappointing thing for me with all the new and efficient internals, according to Apple, is i was expecting much improved battery life, i mean there was alot of talk about the A12 and how it was 40% more efficient, but were not seeing it in fairness like, 30 mins lol, it's like this your getting pretty much the best available but apple are sticking you for it.

Your expectations are too high. Its just a phone. What single feature could they add to impress you?

Apple still has that "devils in the details" approach whether you notice it or not.

Last year for example they introduced 4k @ 60hz recording using HEVC. At the time this was something only a $2500 dollar camera could do. Even more impressively these videos can be shared using a compatibility check and background transcoding if necessary. A couple years ago it would take 2x as long as the recorded video was to transcode HEVC using an Intel Core series CPU so it would play on 90% of devices.

This year we are getting wider dynamic range for video recording (10 bit encoding?). Again back to processes only seen in 1000 dollar cameras (just camera body no lenses).

The iPhone is also getting stereo audio recording (latest Samsung devices also support this). While stereo recording isn't a breakthrough or awe-inspiring task to implement it properly isn't an easy task. For example when you are recording someone talking you specifically do not want stereo, mono is preferred. However in events like concerts stereo recording is preferred. To see how Apple handles this will be interesting.

Apples A12 should be pointed out due to their 7nm process. Intel 8th gen CPU's are 14nm and they've been struggling with their 10nm process for quite a while now. AMD's Gen 2 Ryzen and nVidias new RTX 2xxx are using a 12nm process. Snapdragon (Qualcomm) using 14nm and Exynos (Samsung) using 10nm. The A12 is truly next gen. Now I understand that doesn't mean much to the consumer however it leads me back to the devils in the details, not only does Apple design their own SoC they are unrivaled in nearly all aspects of it.

There is a lot of other features and functions Apple stuck into the XS too. Better wifi and cellular tech. Faster wireless charging. Better water resistance. Faster FaceID. Better speakers fidelity. Larger on board storage capacity. Dual sim slots. Etc...

Its not a surprise if video codec, transcode speeds, and processor fabrication doesn't get you excited. Regardless, its just a phone and if you study every feature every year on every iPhone the next update will seem incremental...because it is....

Life is about something else then the iPhone upgrades. Simple as that.
And you can’t buy it. :p

I'm so over the iphone. Every year I vent on this site about my frustration with the lack of new features...

what are you mumbling? there is a new feature, it is a new letter, s. The same phone is now called xs.

yeah, im still on my 6S+ and i see no reason to update it. instead of updating the phone, im going to replace the battery before the battery replace programs ends on this year.

His comment history demonstrates that he’s the perfect fit for the MR community.
[doublepost=1537018435][/doublepost]
 Year after year same people complaining about how Apple is dead to them yet bother to come back and post on an Apple-centric site.
MR is the place to bitch about Apple and how much the company sucks, Tim Cook is destroying Jobs’ legacy, their products are both innovation and business failures, and they will be a dead company in a few years.

I do think they were pretty darn greedy not including the fast charging cable at these prices, but that’s Apple.

Actually, that is the only thing which makes sense to me - „slow" (common) charging drastically prolongs the life-time of battery.

The XS is too big for you?
Yes. Yesterday I have tried my 5S, 8 and X (which is the same as Xs) side-by-side in a store. Output? Both X and 8 are too large to hold them in one hand SECURELY for me. I don't have that small hands, I could use both 8 and X with one hand without a problem, but it was a different feeling than the SE/5S gives to me - I couldn't get rid of feeling that it could slip out of the hand at any time.

Other aspect are prices in the EU:
SE 128G? ~450 USD
8 64G? ~ 800 USD
XR 64G? ~ 1025 USD
Xs 64G? ~ 1350 USD
That is insane. I am sorry, I could afford it but I cannot justify paying that much for something I was not in love with in a moment I tried that. Buying the 8 is non-sense as it has 2G of RAM ONLY - the same as SE. I am still thinking about what to do now - whether to spend 400 EUR for 128G SE - and buy 2-3 years of time - or what else I could to except replacing my 5S battery for ~40-50 USD. There is NO offering that appeals to me. I can't be alone. :(

There are two things I miss on my 5S:
1) Better battery life
2) More RAM (I am looking at you, Safari. iOS 12 has improved that quite a lot, though.)
