But doesn't the 6s have 2GBs?

I got an Honor 10 with 4GBs of RAM but Android is so much worse at managing RAM that I can't really tell any difference from my other phones.

1GB RAM on the 6 and other Apple phones must feel a bit sluggish by now, though.

Yes the 6S has 2gb. Compared to the X though I notice particular apps will reload. Amazon is where I notice it the most. I'll use Safari to research something in a few tabs, go back to Amazon and it reloads. Not the end of the world and it doesn't always happen but when it does its a bit frustrating.

I had an iPad Air 1 once upon a time and for a while its was a terrible experience. iOS updates made it a lot better but the extra RAM of the Air 2 made a night and day difference.

worse? think about what you can do with android and what you cant do with iphone. launchers? widgets? and do you think ios does things better? my ipad pro 12.9 2nd gen is reloading everything, on everytime, i change the app.

sorry, but ios is worse what comes to ram and background management. you cant even configure your iphone/ios as much as android, but still ios reloads everything. a good ram management? sure, dont keep anything on ram... just keep screenshots from the latest screen and reloads everything...

I know that Android is so much more customisable which is why I have an Honor 10 - to keep my toe in the water.
But I always thought Android needed more RAM than iPhones just to keep things running smoothly. At least I haven't run into any problems with my X and its 3GB of RAM. My iPad 10.5" has also been trouble-free with 4GBs of RAM.

People need to understand that it ain’t just about specs being better. If something else has better specs, great. If this phone has better specs than what’s out there, then great. Now am I going to buy with my own money what I want and what I think fits me, regardless of specs, you sure right.

Are you using chrome or any google apps on your iPad?

I am over with (read: had my fill of) reading logical fallacies plastered all over the forum and internet. I am over with so many people feeling the need to announce their every Apple decision to total strangers, as if said strangers had any personal or financial interest vested in the "I hate Apple" (for the flavor of the day (or minute) reason). I am over with people attaching self-worth to electronic gadgets, as if the world at large really cares what brand phone one uses to text or post pics with. I am over having to constantly wait for the ladies to get ready for their date, as if impressing the public at large was more important than being on time and making my heart skip a beat at the sound of her voice. I am over with kids and adults who believe the world owes them something for free just because said persons breath the same air I do. I am over the fact that the Apple TV remote doesn't have a back channel button, although I still get irritated at the mention of it sometimes, (like now). I have had my fill of garbage t.v. (read: reality t.v.) What happened to the History Channel and Science Channel actually showing programing that befits their channel name? What the world needs is more James T. Kirk, Captain Picard, Dr. Who, Sheldon Cooper, and Scooby Doo. I am over with kids (and adults) who have such a limited vocabulary, that every other word is four-lettered and hearing the constant barrage of verbal diarrhea makes me question if some of the people are suffering from Tourettes Syndrome, or just stuck on stupid because they want to be. I am over with so many on here believing that it is Apple's job to keep them entertained every minute of the day, not to mention demanding that Apple come up with new features for every smart phone, just so said complainers can feel secure in their personage, and feel strong enough to brag to others, "I have the latest and greatest" from brand X.

One thing I am not over with, is the pleasure and joy that using the Apple ecosystem brings.

One of the most awesome posts I've read here on MR. :) Amen about the Kirk and Picard statement.

Interesting how these threads get a lot of attention. Love how people feel the need to bash on Apple and dump on it to make themselves feel better.

I'm so over the iphone. Every year I vent on this site about my frustration with the lack of new features because I'm angry and hopeful that, on the off-chance, something will be done about it.

This year is no different.

How can I say it without sounding like a troll: Tim Cook has NFI. He started from a very high platform. He becomes CEO of the company which invented and makes arguably the greatest consumer product the world has ever seen, all thanks to Steve Jobs (RIP) and has since seen it progressively reduced to an overpriced, feature-starved, glorified emoji device.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but:

In 2014, the iphone came with with a big screen (cool) with very little else added to the iphone.

In 2015, Apple introduced 3D touch which had so much potential but was left to became effectively a shortcut menu. 3D touch is now, according to reports, on its way out.

In 2016, Apple introduced a better camera (an improvement, not to be confused with a new feature) but took away the headphone jack.

In 2017, Apple introduced Face ID, a biometrich which replaced another biometrich, again, an improvement rather than a new feature because it was a case of one security access feature replacing another, no new capability was added. It also polarised opinion as not everyone was/is a fan of Face ID. Oh, and we also saw anamojis, yipeeeeee.

And in 2018....a bigger screen and a spec bump.

And next year? Well at this rate Apple will be removing something from the iphone because that's the one certainty you get with Apple, for whatever reason, they remove features. Anyone remember the old Youtube app? Gone. Headphone jack, gone. 3D touch, probably gone. Apple giveth, Apple taketh away.

Back to Apple's go slow approach. When's it gonna end? I've had enough of it. In the last 5 iphone keynotes, we have seen improvements and spec bumps here and there, but nothing to make me go wow. When was the last time Apple added something which made the iphone do something it could never do before and which was innovative?

Now before people say "phones have stopped making people go wow" and "what do you expect from a phone", please spare me the comments. Those comments may have been relevant 2-3 years ago, but not now. In the last 5 years, we have not seen one major added feature to spruce life back into the iphone. And don't get me started on the years preceding 2014 and how slow the feature-adding was then too, albeit, better than the years post 2014.

The iphone has become a boring, bland device. If all we want from it is to read email, play music, text and consume media, which is what some keep saying, then why has it become so damn expensive? I have seen at least 5 phone reviewers say if you're going to spend a thousand dollars on a phone, then the Note 9 is the phone to buy. And that is no coincidence. Not kidding you, the Note line has left the iphone line behind. And I say this as an iphone user. After playing with the Note 9 in the store, it did make me go "WOW".

That is all.

Here’s one for you. Ready? Are you sure? Ok, here it goes.... No one cares...

I think Apple's iPhones are great which is why I've had them since the iPhone 5 (was on android prior to that). I'm not saying Apple is better than Android but I definitely prefer it.

My Honor 10 isn't bad, but when I pick up the 8 I know which one I like better even if it has half the RAM.

Not sure what you expect from Apple. Apple perhaps is more conservative than Samsung as they wait for the market to dictate what upgrades they implement, to me this is why iPhones are more consistent. What else do you need your iPhone to do?

The only downside that I can see with the XR is losing 3D Touch but, to be honest, I don't use it much anyway. The 6.1 screen will be more than worth it. As I'm now over 50 I sometimes have to squint at the 4.7" screen of the 8. And the ppi stays the same which is fine with me.

OP, I’m not going to berate you over your rant. I’ve been frustrated too. And I’d argue some of what you say is spot on. But let’s also consider; what have other phone makers been doing that’s any different?

I have friends who are loyal to certain flagships. Let’s use the Samsung Galaxy S series and Note series as examples. They’ve been just as underwhelmed. Designs are not changing radically over there either. Spec bumps are incremental. Innovation isn’t happening (don’t confuse innovation with throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks...aka gimmicks). They are bored as well. They have their own sets of issues, gripes, wishlists, etc.

I’m not surprised you are gushing over the Note 9. It’s new to you. A shiny new toy. To the average Note consumer, particularly a Note 8 user, it’s about as compelling an upgrade as the XS to an X user. Once the novelty wears off and it becomes just another phone to you, check back in. Let us know if it’s still as compelling as you find it to be now.

And while you’re dabbling in android (and there is nothing wrong with that at all), see if you can find a watch, or ear pods, or tablet that’s as quality and reliable as the Apple line. I think we are seeing a shift. Apple has other products besides the phone with a lot of room, and potential, to grow.

For a tablet I bought a Huawei for $175 on sale. Does everything fine, looks good, great battery, expandable storage, monthly security updates, plays every game I've tried without issue, and great speakers. Had it for a year now and have no reason to buy anything else.

But it doesn't have the quad speakers of the iPad Pro. That, to me is one of the best features of the iPad. Watching a movie is a joy especially with the outstanding screen.

That is why I'll gladly pay £619 instead of £175 for a device. Android tablets are a penance.

Sounds like you have an errant app some where. Google apps are the worst on iOS always siphoning off resources.
That may well be true.

I could never get on with Safari, though, and use Chrome on all my devices. The battery life on my iPad is amazing - I can leave it for days and come back and it will still be 70%. The X isn't quite as good but i'd never consider it bad despite my using Google Chrome and Google Play Music on it.

That’s because ios suspends background operation after a set time of inactivity.

You would get better battery life if you deleted chrome. No idea about google play music to be honest, but it’s still a google app so...

Nothing to do with chrome or google apps on iOS , but I deleted all my gmail accounts after the last scandal and when I removed it from the mail app on iOS i noticed an increase in battery life on my devices, turns out gmail is only fetch on iOS and not push unless you download the gmail app...that was draining my battery.

Mileage may vary

Or that Youtubers make videos for $$$$$$, period. And will say anything that gets clicks. At best they are 1 person's opinion who has literally zero specialized knowledge over the average user. Most of these "tech Youtubers" can read and regurgitate leaks they read; that's about it.

But lets not forget how Google can remotely change your Android device settings in 9.0 devices; scary level of access to your device without any knowledge or notification. https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/...ctivating-battery-saver-almost-fully-charged/

There are definitely great options out there, i didn’t mean to imply that one couldn’t be happy with android alternatives. I just feel personally when it comes to the overall line of iPads, particularly the pro models, I find them better than alternatives. But that’s only me. I’m definitely not trying to speak for everyone. I’m glad you found a product that you enjoy!
