Or that Youtubers make videos for $$$$$$, period. And will say anything that gets clicks. At best they are 1 person's opinion who has literally zero specialized knowledge over the average user. Most of these "tech Youtubers" can read and regurgitate leaks they read; that's about it.

But lets not forget how Google can remotely change your Android device settings in 9.0 devices; scary level of access to your device without any knowledge or notification. https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/...ctivating-battery-saver-almost-fully-charged/
Well, I am sticking with iPhones then. Thanks for that.

What more do you want from a smartphone? The ability to teleport you from place to place?

The tech has effectively peaked, and hardware updates are more focused on energy efficiency, rather than groundbreaking features.

I’ve got an idea. How about a home screen update? When was the last one? Instead of having “the smartest and most powerful chip ever in a smartphone“ powering that same tired static grid of icons.

How about loosening the iron grip on the OS to actually make use of the silicon that seems to be a talking point in every keynote rather than something that actually has any tangible use?

How about fast charging as an actual standard, out of the box like the competition offer?

There’s a few for starters.

I'd really like to see a fresh lock screen design, if nothing else. Been virtually the same thing for a decade.

I was in the same boat as the OP (wanting that WOW factor) until I saw a portion of the conference the other day. When they showed the basketball app or whatever it is recording the shots and stats that was really impressive IMO and made me realize that yeah i get a slightly better/faster new phone BUT there are things that people are actually doing with these phones that the average user may not fully appreciate. Kind of reminds me of the people that buy MAXXXED out 15 inch macbooks that are not PRO users. They will never really realize how much power they have in their hands. The phone is more capable than I could have ever thought but I just work, check emails, netflix, call, text and clash the clans on it so ill never know. All the above being said I told myself I wouldn't go from my X to the X max however I'm having a hard time not pressing the purchase tab....

An always on clock/date lock screen would be amazing.

I going to do a 4th year with my iphone 6s Plus, granted i will be using it a as a backup while i will be using my S4 AW LTE as my main phone. Honestly everything since the 6s iphones is just perfectly fine for most if not all daily needs.

The iphone x camera is nice but still nothing like a good 3/4th micro or full frame camera.

It wouldn't be amazing, just a sensible feature....until Cook announced it, then it would be something on a par with the second coming.

Good for you and glad you got it out of the system. Now you can also leave macrumors too! Hate posts like this, as waste of time. Sounds like a baby.

I'm so over the iphone. Every year I vent on this site about my frustration with the lack of new features because I'm angry and hopeful that, on the off-chance, something will be done about it.

This year is no different.

How can I say it without sounding like a troll: Tim Cook has NFI. He started from a very high platform. He becomes CEO of the company which invented and makes arguably the greatest consumer product the world has ever seen, all thanks to Steve Jobs (RIP) and has since seen it progressively reduced to an overpriced, feature-starved, glorified emoji device.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but:

In 2014, the iphone came with with a big screen (cool) with very little else added to the iphone.

In 2015, Apple introduced 3D touch which had so much potential but was left to became effectively a shortcut menu. 3D touch is now, according to reports, on its way out.

In 2016, Apple introduced a better camera (an improvement, not to be confused with a new feature) but took away the headphone jack.

In 2017, Apple introduced Face ID, a biometrich which replaced another biometrich, again, an improvement rather than a new feature because it was a case of one security access feature replacing another, no new capability was added. It also polarised opinion as not everyone was/is a fan of Face ID. Oh, and we also saw anamojis, yipeeeeee.

And in 2018....a bigger screen and a spec bump.

And next year? Well at this rate Apple will be removing something from the iphone because that's the one certainty you get with Apple, for whatever reason, they remove features. Anyone remember the old Youtube app? Gone. Headphone jack, gone. 3D touch, probably gone. Apple giveth, Apple taketh away.

Back to Apple's go slow approach. When's it gonna end? I've had enough of it. In the last 5 iphone keynotes, we have seen improvements and spec bumps here and there, but nothing to make me go wow. When was the last time Apple added something which made the iphone do something it could never do before and which was innovative?

Now before people say "phones have stopped making people go wow" and "what do you expect from a phone", please spare me the comments. Those comments may have been relevant 2-3 years ago, but not now. In the last 5 years, we have not seen one major added feature to spruce life back into the iphone. And don't get me started on the years preceding 2014 and how slow the feature-adding was then too, albeit, better than the years post 2014.

The iphone has become a boring, bland device. If all we want from it is to read email, play music, text and consume media, which is what some keep saying, then why has it become so damn expensive? I have seen at least 5 phone reviewers say if you're going to spend a thousand dollars on a phone, then the Note 9 is the phone to buy. And that is no coincidence. Not kidding you, the Note line has left the iphone line behind. And I say this as an iphone user. After playing with the Note 9 in the store, it did make me go "WOW".

That is all.

I can never understand complaints like this. If you don't like a product, you move on and buy another that fits your needs. Why cry about it on the internet? What does that get you? Just move on and choose a product that works best for your needs, it's not that critical/difficult.

Yawn.....if you are "over Apple and iPhone go to Android and post some love at an Android forum

LOL, Socki from Socki tech, yeah, I trust that dude with sunglasses and no actual product.
He's biased towards Samsung. I wouldn't base my decision on what a youtube reviewer says but I prefer people who are a bit more neutral and don't have a bias. I think MKBHD's review is quite balanced.

If a person doesn't like the product, then vote with your dollars and support a different product.

I don't get so wrapped up in a little rectangle that it consumes my life, so I would never need to "... be over it ..."

It's a handy piece of consumer electronics that does some really neat things, allows me to communicate, be informed, buy products, do a little business , capture some photos of my beautiful family, occasionally be entertained, and every year it does those things a little better/faster/bigger/neater.

If your life is overly impacted by rows of icons ... you're doing it wrong :D

Honestly, I feel bad for everyone buying the iPhone Xs because next year when Apple releases the iPhone 11 with no notch, it's gonna be epic.

and you know this how?
fyi i doubt apple will get rid of the notch because if they did how are they going to include the cameras in the front and all the other sensors they want to implement. The notch is needed like it or not. Its needed for now and any future improvements

Also, as I learned when studying Business/Marketing, all products have a life cycle, maybe the iPhone is in its mature phase.

smartphones are in its mature face. Its becoming more and more difficult to implement good features

Just bite the bullet and get and Android device to compliment your iPhone. I have an iPhone and a OnePlus 6.

I know a lot of people don't like to admit it, but there are some things that Android just does better: Notifications (still), Sharing, File Manipulation, Changing Default Apps, Customization..... There also some things that iOS does better: iMessage, System/Security updates, FaceTime, Support....

It's going to be harder and harder every year to add "WOW" features into phones.

This 1000%. I don't get all the bashing on both sides. It's fun to switch things up every couple months between my iPhone and Android and just switch the sim card.

A major gripe I have with the iPhone is notifications. They are just not taking advantage of "always on" capability of OLED and treat it the same as LCD. I have my Pixel 2 XL next to my keyboard here at my office. Just a glance at the screen shows me time, date, weather conditions, temperature, battery percentage, and notifications. Dark theme in Android messages for Pie is awesome too. Most of my time is spent texting people and it is so much easier on the eyes looking at a black screen while texting. It also probably saves some battery.

As I said, a review with no actual product in hand is vapor. I honestly could not watch that entire review with a cheesy guy in sunglasses hosting it.

and i'll order one of those, too..... I feel sorry for you not using an Xs/Xs max for the next year until 11 comes out.....

Go figure, I'm buying an XS Max this year, and will be getting whatever they release next year. Don't feel bad for me because I'm buying an Xs.
