iMac 2.8 GHz 24 inch has been discontinued. Why? I hope it's for something even better, because this looks like it would be a great machine. I went for the cheaper 20 inch with 2.0 GHz but had the money been available I would definitely have gone for the top end machine. Apple, please don't push down the performance of the iMac - it has become a great machine.

was it really discontinued? i can still see it in the apple store.

I can confirm that is what I am seeing also

Although if you select the item shipping returns to 3 days, just an error although I haven't seen discontinued on the apple store before.

2-4 Business days in Australia and Hong Kong.

I was just about to say as above. Maybe a disgruntled Apple store employee decided to have a little fun.

Will be good if it means a run down on its production pending an update coming soon! (and a chip update for macbookpro along with it please) ... if thats the case... but maybe they just ran out of supplies? lol

I'm sure it was 24 hrs before the Macworld Expo started. I think the whole special order thing was before and then it just turned into a regular option. Makes sense that a fast machine has a fast delivery - after all it will be going to people who don't like to wait for things.:D

Discontinued across Europe

The 24" 2.8GHz iMac is listed as 'discontinued' in multiple European Apple Stores (I checked UK, France, Germany, Netherlands). Maybe a replacement is in the works, or you can only get 2.8GHz as BTO option for the 24" 2.4GHz iMac.

I too can confirm that is saying 'Discontinued'. It may be due to a CPU upgrade? Maybe the 2.8GHz isn't an 'Extreme' processor anymore?

So its really not discontinued since you can BTO...and it comes out to the same price as well.

Doesn't make any sense that they would discontinue showing the machine on their main page but keep it as an option. It can't be that much of a niche market (larger demand than the MB Air I would expect - after all it is much better value for money). My prediction is that this change is trickling through as stock is being depleted.

Oh Bugger!!! I was about to buy the 2.8Ghz model this morning, I was just waiting to see if anything happened at Macworld. No way I'm buying something that's being listed as "Discontinued", I guess I'll wait just a bit longer to see if there is going to be a replacement.

Hi, my name is Mick. Welcome to Apple!
#

Mick: Hello, how can I help you?
#

You: On the store, it says that the 24" imac is discontinued. Can you confirm this?
#

Mick: it's an error
#

Mick: we are working to rectify it
#

Mick: they are still available
#

Mick: would you like to order?

Looks like it's not discontinued lol.

It's not the 24" iMac per se that's showing as discontinued, only the 2.8Ghz version.

Hi, my name is Angela. Welcome to Apple!
#

Angela: Hello, how can I help you?
#

You: Apparantly on the apple online stores in Europe the 24" 2.8ghz extreme imac is discontinued. Do you know what's going on?
#

Angela: I am really sorry for keeping you waiting, I'll be just another moment.
#

Angela: Yes
#

Angela: Sorry for the delay,
#

Angela: this is an error,
#

Angela: the iMac has not been discontinued
#

Angela: and is available for purchase.
#

You: Oh right ok :) Do you know what may have caused the error?
#

Angela: I'd say it was just an error when the pages were being updated.
#

You: Oh ok. So it's not a hint of a mac speed update? :)
#

Angela: No,
#

Angela: worth asking but it's not!

Does this clear things up ? :p :D
