 They were honest questions: I'm not one to *****-foot around because it's 'not nice' to ask awkward questions. It's not being a jerk it's being inquisitive; if she doesn't know the answer then she should have just said so.

The point is that you were obviously asking wide-scoping Apple Engineering and Marketing based questions which obviously couldn't be answered by a simple Apple Store Rep.

You obviously knew it was out of her area of expertise, you obviously knew she couldn't either comment on or affect the problems you had. You were obviously doing it to just to be a d*ck.

Just my humble opinion.

I seriously wouldn't buy a product that's been listed as 'Discontinued'. If it is an error, they must have been planning on doing it at some point (maybe just not so soon).

This is what I'm thinking too. I can't imagine some random glitch that just happened to throw the word "discontinued" into that spot on the page. It must be a planned process, just probably wasn't meant to go through at this point.

However, I'm not sure this should mean anything about an update to the line. In the 5-6 years I've had a mac and watched these things, the only indication on the apple store website that I've ever seen for a product update was an increase in shipping times, sometimes going up to 2-3 weeks just prior to an update. This isn't always the case, it depends heavily on how much backstock they have of a product before the release, but all the same, I've never seen a product be listed as discontinued either before or after an update (after the update the old machine just moves to the refurb page).

For those thinking of buying wait until Tuesday is my advice.

Edit: silly language checker.

They where not honest questions, they were loaded questions. Not sure that makes a person a jerk but likely it does.

I think i might buy myself a macbook to keep occupied while i wait for anymore news on an imac update haha. There's a 2 week delivery wait for the 2.8ghz extreme model of the imac - as iiifff i can wait that long

For those that asked about my wait until Tuesday advice, it was merely a flippant remark. Because announcements are made on Tuesdays, it is therefore very likely that if something is going to change in the near future, then it will be then. There have also been rumors elsewhere that all of Apple's announcements have not been made yet.

My wife and I are in the market for new systems (specifically iMacs). I want the extreme 24" version while she wants the 2.4 20" version.

I'm holding out for a little bit just in case they announce a quad core version with a better video card.

That's my only gripe with it is that the ATI card in it isn't really great. I'm not much of an ATI fan since they've been acquired by AMD. It seems both AMD and ATI are falling short on the products they deliver.

Ideally some sort of 8800 card in it would be great!

I am also holdin out... or atleast planning on it... but just so you know, the quad-cores are not expected for atleast another 6 months or so. The next processors out will most likely be the Penryn processors which are still core 2 duo.

I agree on the graphics card... I almost want that more than the processor upgrade. Actually, I think I do. I would also like a few more I/0 ports, although that is less likely.
