My i7 with the 5500XT arrived last week and since then I've noticed the screen refreshing in "halves" a few times where the left and right side of the display are not synchronized when waking up or going to sleep. Any thoughts on that?

It's entirely possible, if in new condition. They don't just throw away units which have been returned do they.
Well I’d hope they verified why it was returned before just sending it back out. Even then that would make it refurbished. I guess what I don’t know won’t hurt me.

I completed a 4 hour recording, mixing and mastering session last evening utilizing my new iMac. This session was a rather complicated one with live instrument and vocal recording as well as numerous virtual orchestral instrument tracks. There were also numerous virtual effects utilized. My Mac was pushed very hard over an extended period. It performed flawlessly in every way. Even with the heavy load it was experiencing, the fan noise was mostly low to moderate. No hick-ups were experienced under conditions that would have been too much for my previous iMac. The most important thing is that I still didn’t experience any crashes or video issues of any kind.

Because Apple is responsible for who it partners with do provide hardware for their premium products. As customers of Apple, we are powerless against AMD.
And, despite AMD tech could work on new drivers in partnership with Apple, they will be deployed by Apple through the software update, not on AMD web site.

I've had the same. My thoughts are that you should log a bug so that it's not just me complaining about it :)

Does this phenomenon also appear when running Windows 10 or Big Sur? If not, it's most likely an issue with Catalina.

whatever is causing these glitches, it has been substantially more today then before. I just saw 5 with in a minute. And I only have safari open. I am slowly shifting from not-a-big-deal to -w-t-f-.

It's strange, I've had mine a week and not seen one yet, kinda jealous

I didn't see any all day yesterday. I thought, is it possible? Did Tim Cook remotely update my AMD drivers? YES! Then I saw four or five in just as many seconds while scrolling a browser window.

This has me really concerned. My BTO machine just left Ireland this morning and is on its way.
I have been a Windows user for over ten years after my first generation intel iMac had so many problems I put it aside and never used it again.

Those problems were all screen related and had to do with video card issues.

I simply cannot understand how everyone here is so okay with how we (myself included) all paid so much more than a similar spec windows machine and these problems exist.

Again, I have not received mine, so perhaps i am one of the lucky ones, as my machine I went all out and everything but ram and HDD are top of the line, so the 5700 XT seemed like a good idea to me.

That is one major advantage of Apple Silicon for them, they will finally control their Mac platform. Won't end the problems for us though, AMD is not why Catalina kernel panics.

The problem I have with this logic is that if apple cannot get it together and test a 3rd party hardware and driver with all the versions of MacOS they have on the market, why should I trust them with their own silicon and drivers?

Their own hardware still needs drivers to run it, so this oversight should not be blamed on AMD since apple likely received a reference hardware to work with and had MONTHS of run up to sign off on drivers for it.

Someone tried to set up a dual boot system and booted up in Mojave ( procedure can be found on the net) and see what the outcome is ? If it stays away it is for sure a Catalina thing if it persists than it’s either a driver problem or a hw failure.

Glad it's working so well for you. You don't say which graphics option you have and with how much graphics memory. Would be interested to know that.

After passing Apple the video of the line appearing as I was setting up the OS they've recommended I return the machine for a refund or replacement; having the machine back in the factory will also help them to identify the issue.

I understand that worldwide they are selling vast quantities of these per week, mine is the first one the Apple team I deal with have seen with the white line. As I type this 78 people with the 5700XT have the issue on this thread (it's been 78 for a couple of days). Worldwide I guess they'll be thousands with the 5700XT who don't have the issue, have never felt the need to Google it or document any lack of issue by voting here. I think we're in an unlucky minority.

The graphical glitches I've seen, as we far as I understand them, are an irritation not a show stopper. I'm still of the opinion it'll be fixed with an OS or firmware update, but I didn't want to sit on my hands waiting with a expensive new machine that irritates me.

I will be buying another one at some point.

In the meantime.... back to the trusty 2012 cheese grater, High Sierra and a PC Nvidia GPU. Happy days.

To me, this indicates Apple have no bloody idea about this issue. And then to give you the line that’s it’s the first time they’ve heard of this, just reiterates they have no idea. Based on this, I suspect a fix will be a long time coming, if ever.

Just got to setting up my replacement. Did the damn line flicker before I even selected my region from setup screen.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT THE WHITE LINE OF DOOM IS HAPPENING TO EVERYONE WITH THE 5700XT. IN THIS FORUM ALONE, WE HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS PEOPLE RETURN THEIR IMACS AND THE REPLACEMENT IMACS HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. SO TO CLASSIFY THIS AS "ONLY SOME USER EXPERIENCE" MUST BE WRONG.

If there were only a handful of users with this White Horizontal Line issue, then how is it that countless people have returned their iMacs and the replacement iMacs have the same exact issue. That's like winning the White Lighting Lottery. Common sense tells us that it's "limited problem" which is only affecting some users, isn't so LIMITED.
