No issues here. I have 4 external SSDs hooked up and 3 spinning disk and all work fine.

Wow, that’s a lot of external stuff going on! I probably will have a Time machine HDD and an SSD for my photos library

Love mine. My webcam is slightly out of focus on the right side, noticed the same on other demo units so it must be widespread but few notice. All of them also make a slight whine when used at less than 100% brightness. Only audible at night in a quiet room. No point in exchanging it as they're all like this. Mine is a 512SSD/16GB I use for 2d graphic design and it's flawless in that. I once in 2 months got a ""SOCD report detected: (AP watchdog expired)" error. Seems to happen on most M1s, too soon to tell if it's bad or not. Oh yeah speakers suck, they're fine for low volume background music though. 10/10 would buy again

Absolutely love my 24" M1 other than the built in speaker system which is definitely a step down in sound quality from the speaker system in the 27" it replaced.

I've actually purchased a second 24" M1 to replace a 2017 21.5" platter drive downstairs which acted as a music server when it wasn't beach-balling or flat out crashing. That 21.5" iMac is the only Apple product I regret purchasing since I've been using their products. Glad they're getting it back as a trade in against my second 24" M1.

I’m hearing some bad comments on the speakers, yet Apple say (as I know they always do), this is best speakers etc etc.

I haven’t got one, but listened in Apple store and unless it was up to 3/4 it was really really quiet. But it sounded ok, had some bass I thought.

As long as they are decent basic speakers would probably be ok for me for what need though tbh.

My MBP has plummeted in price and now Apple trade in price has dropped to, so I’m not sure what to do now.

Also I was waiting for Black Friday, but looking at delivery dates if I wait I may miss Xmas delivery.

Speakers are definitely decent basic speakers. You'll be able to listen to background music, YouTube videos etc. Bass is enough. They are mushy in the detail and treble is harsh if you push volume, but decent and basic they are

If time and trade in is not an issue, is waiting to see what is out next an idea?

I have never bought a computer and viewed it as an asset for value, this will be my first time when the next versions come out but that is cos I will jump ship from this particular one. Looking for the long term option.

Always run them as a tool for the moment. Though reading many comments I seem to be in a minority, probably minority of 1;)

It's a tool to me too. But with trade in you always lose a lot of money. Truth is, I will not need to upgrade from this 24" M1 for years, I will just not bother

Time I suppose is fine, don’t “need” it now but always nice, I haven’t used my MBP in ages, I think I would the iMac as it’s still nice to have a computer as I use my iPad and iPhone so much.

I didn’t buy the MBP as an asset definitely, I know it, and most never keeps value. I upgraded my MBP to 16Gb and 256Gb SSD on the premise I’d keep it for years, but just haven’t used it.

Agree trade in is always poor, but it’s great convenience that’s the plus.

If I get an M1 iMac I also will keep (hopefully) for years and years.

Well shipping (in UK) is now 21st Dec so if I’m wanting before Xmas it’s got to be now.

I was hoping to wait for Black Friday to see if Apple did anything, does anyone know what they did in previous years, and also if you can with still with a education discount?

Apple for BF last year gave store cards, in Europe like 150€ for an iMac, 27 to 31 November. Not sure if it works with education discount but I think so

Thanks, probably worth waiting then for around £120 Apple gift card maybe. If it’s next week think I’ll miss the Xmas delivery though unfortunately.

Anyone used education discount and Black Friday and got the gift card please?

I had a good deal some years ago with a a Black Friday event bur it was tied to an employee program. Last few years has been apple only refundable points or cards I think?

Might have missed a trick with this as I upgraded the iPad to a 11 pro and pen the same time ordering this 24". That would have saved me some loot, probably. But you know, new M1 iPad, shiny..........

So you used your employee discount and also got a Black Friday gift card at same time?

It’s just if I’m going to order using edu discount I could get before Xmas, if not and I wait for BF it will be after Xmas, but unsure if will get the BF gift card as well.

Think I mixed and matched. Memory cells are not what they were, ironically iMac and iPads at that time. Might have been the iPad was better deal via Apple as in actual cost was cheaper and the % deal via the company of the iMac was better than what Apple were doing.
Or something.

Do Apple deliver over Xmas in UK? I’m taking like in between Xmas and new year? Looks like Black Friday is going to be 26th Nov not sure if Apple only do the actual Friday?

If so dates today are 14-21st Dec so imagine another week will add a week meaning 21-28th maybe.

Encouraging comments still from people currently with it, about it as well, making me very near to ordering.

Don’t forgot the poll on first post to now!

Thanks

Everyone on the planet can order something. Unfortunately, not everyone on the planet can get their item at the same time. Given the current backlog at the shipping ports, I'd say shipping delays are to be more severe this holiday season due to a lack of physical trucks to keep up with the demand.

I ordered an item from Lands End at the beginning of August. It's been on back order ever since. I figure it's sitting in one of a thousand cargo containers at a local port waiting to be transferred to a truck. At this rate, I'll be lucky to see it this year. In fact, I don't expect to see it this year.

Years ago I received a computer on 27th December

Had mine since beginning of July and I can't fault it - fantastic machine!

Only glitches I've had are a few Monterey bugs (also being experienced by others on various machines), so in no way my iMac's fault...

I maxed mine out with 16GB RAM & 2TB SSD, and I'm glad I did as I can see this machine being in daily use for very many happy years to come. It handles everything I ask of it with ease, though I'm in no way a "power" user.

(I just have to stop myself upgrading to new versions of macOS as soon as they're released... D'oh! ?)
I have a Mac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Fusion 1TB with 497gb available.
I was thinking of getting the 24 iMac with 16gb and 1 TB SSD, had not thought about a 2TB. How much available space do you have of the 2TB?

My M1 iMac reports exactly 2TB total disk space. (Only used 178MB so far - 1.82TB free*)

Unlike other machines the disk seems to be the exact size Apple says on the box...

* Before anyone says anything - it'll get used up in time!

Wait, you're not using all that free space? Sorry, couldn't help it :D

Yeah - right now it's a very decadent waste!

But all my previous iMacs have had their disks partitioned, sometimes three or four times for various reasons, and that really starts to shrink the unused space...

Just wondering if anyone has any specific problems with the M1 iMac?

I know they are now a few months old just wonder if anyone found any problems on screen, or memory issues, graphic problems etc?

Anything you’ve found it can’t run or struggle with?

Looking to buy one, reading forums doesn’t seem too many problems or have I missed them!

Thinking of getting 16Gb for future proofing.

Thanks
Yes major problem - Im ready to throw it out the window.

Major memory leakage and drops me off the internet (all browsers and email). To reconnect to net need to restart each time Went with 8 GB RAM and with only email going and word running it runs out.

Only started when upgraded to Monterey. Cant roll back to Big Sur (wont allow me to roll back). Took it to Google store for diagnosis - "nothing wrong with memory cant help you".. they were useless. Given response from Apple PC starting to look good again!

Took to a Google store for diagnostics?

So it doesn’t sound like hardware maybe more to MacOS, it’s the first version and so sometimes always not the best with bugs etc.

Or do you think it’s hardware? You don’t seem to be running a lot of apps so shouldn’t run out of memory, even if 8Gb.

Are you using wired or wireless Internet?

Is this a common problem?
