EDIT the second: Well, I suppose if it's an official requirement to be a Horseman of the Apocalypse *makes second angel face*

So true. We need as many Macs surfing MacRumors as possible. :D

Sorry if this thread gets closed. I have that effect, you understand.

Well to keep this thread alive...I went for a TV as of late, 30" HD, only to hear cries of don't you love me? why don't you love me? from the iMac of course since the GF was sleeping...

There you go
And I guess when it's $850 I can buy it for no reason.

Really, does a girl have too many shoes? Do guys have to many hats

I don't wear hats, but I definitely don't have enough shoes. :p

And mmmm....so for about $1600 I could get a TV and an iMac. Hmmm....

iMacs are so pretty. :)

I just ordered mine a couple days ago, only to see today that Apple had an even faster model for less.

Oh well, at least I'll be getting one.

GET AN IMAC! THE FORCE IS CALLING YOU!

To be a true Jedi you need to learn the dark side of the force :p

Hehehehe...I think I have some ideas of how to house it in my apartment. :D

If it's true that a Rev B can be wall mounted...hmmm... :D

I can definitely recommend picking up a refurb iMac G5 after the Expo.

I bought my 1.8Ghz 17in iMac with Superdrive and 80GB drive for $799 after the new iSight models were introduced. With another $190 I upgraded the machine with a 250GB HDD and an extra 1GB of RAM. This box has done everything I've wanted it to and it saved me over $500, compared to a comperable rev D.

Can I ask...did you buy this from a private seller? Or else, where from? That's an excellent price.... I'd buy that model at that price today if I could.

I was in exactly the same boat as you. I have a perfectly good (and adequate) iBook G4, I generally prefer portables, and I dreamed of an iMac G5. All I can see is it's great. The extra power is noticeable throughout the system, the added screen space is brilliant and the thing's a stunner. It's the perfect iBook accessory IMO. :)

Added to that is the benefit of having more than one personal machine. Of course, then you'll be eyeing off .Mac... :D

Oh I have the same feeling, except I really have no need for it. What I wish they would do is have a Tivo like Mac mini. Have that stream up to my (future) iMac then be able to stream those movies/tv shows to my iBook while Im on vacation... I can dream cant I?

Mmmm, if you're just going to stream from it to a Mac anyway (you threadjacker! :p ) then why can't it just actually be a TiVo or ReplayTV?

Ahhhh, the refurb store now has several Rev. A iMac 17" models... Very, very low prices. Rev. A is absolutely no go for me, though, because it is not certain that it has Bluetooth. :(

Oh, forgot to mention, this was an Apple Store refurb, from their online inventory. It was really a no-brainer - I got an immaculate iMac G5 with standard 1 year Apple warranty, yet saved hundreds of dollars because it was 'refurbished'.

Mmm, thank you! Was this some kind of special? Or did you order a lower model (like a rev A) and get bumped up? I see that model as having most recently been $949, I think, in the US refurb store. Much more than $799 in any event. :(

I ordered what was the current model, until that rev D iSight model was introduced the morning I purchased my iMac. My exact specs were: 1.8Ghz G5 17in iMac with Superdrive, 80GB HDD, and 256MB RAM, no Airport or Bluetooth. The Superdrive was my one major requirement for a new Mac. The hard drive and memory were easily upgradable.

Yeah, I was amazed to see it available for so little! For two years I've been reading MacRumors, 'lusting' after a 15in Powerbook, but never able to justify a $2500 toy. When I saw the $799 iMac, I knew this was the only way for me to finally get a Mac and not break the bank.

Wait...there are only three revisions. The iMac with iSight is C, not D. Yours is the original Rev. A, if it was stock with 256MB of memory. There was an intervening model that was current at your time of purchase, which is the Rev. B, which had 512MB ram built in, a 128MB Radeon 9600, and AE/BT2, but no iSight.

And, I'm sorry, I forgot that there was a 1.8GHz version of this iMac 17". That price is normal at the refurb store for that configuration. I thought you got a Rev. B iMac. I need to get at least B because I definitely need AE and BT built-in. :) The Rev. A 17" refurbs are $750 with the combo and $800 with the super, I think; the Rev. B's are $850 and 950, respectively....

But thank you so much for the details! :)

Ah, thanks for that clarification! Sorry if I got your hopes up - this is my first Apple machine so I'm still learning. Good luck with your purchase!

Haha.

I would love to have an iSight iMac... I do wonder about whether or not these Intel iMacs will have hardware issues.

I'm putting my iMac up on eBay tonight or in the am and buying a 20" asap :D :D
