I am very surprised at how high the UK pricing is, even by Apple's recent standards. So much so that it has blown past my £5,000 budget by some margin. The RAM prices in particular are hugely disappointing.

Sad times!

No ordering or pricing structure Down Under as yet, just the old web site info with US$4,999 local RRP TBA. Hopefully the 18 core will b e the end of January.

I think it's February for 18 core, as there was someone in Canada or America who ordered the 18-core and got a date of mid-Feb. Hopefully not too long of a wait for you, and times could improve as the days roll by!

The fact remains that the iMac Pro starts at $4,999 in the US, which would equate to less than £3,725.

Even adding on our 20% VAT (sales tax) would bring it to £4,470.

Yet it starts at £4,899, so nearly a 10% markup.

Yes, Apple stuff is more expensive in the UK (and indeed the rest of Europe) than in the US, but a) the markup is not as big as it looks (because of VAT) and b) it has always been like this (i.e. „modest“ markup) so I don‘t know why you are „very surprised“ or „hugely disappointed“.

I literally accounted for the VAT in my calculation. It is 10% overpriced AFTER VAT.

I'm surprised and disappointed because the previous markups were in anticipation of the pound continuing to tumble. But it's recovered and remained stable. It used to be the norm for $1,999 to convert to £1,599 on list price, and now we're nearly at parity.

Anyway, getting off topic now.

This will probably be the more popular and affordable option.

What do you that you opted for the 128GB RAM?

I first pick the option with the Vega 56 and upgraded the RAM but I wonder if I shouldn't upgrade the video card for a more long term usage (ML dev). I'm wonder what others pick. How much the extra RAM and cores can do the diff?

Just a quick one, any Logic users out there....baseline enough power?

I don't fancy spec'n this out to £5000-6000 but need to make sure I am making the right decision. Semi Professional Musician. I work with loads of audio tracks and VST's

Cheers
