Don't bother unless it's £3k or less. Those prices are money for old rope. 3 year old specs.

You can get a top 2019 iMac for £3600. So why bother getting a refurb iMac Pro for more(?) for anything other than it's more extensive cooling.

When the new iMacs launch (imminent) they'll put the current iMac and the entry iMac Pro in the shade. Probably in performance and price. Saving thousands in the process.

It has much better thermal cooling, better sustained performance, 2 additional TB 3 ports, 1080p heavily improved FaceTime camera, mic-array setup, improved speakers, to name a few more changes. I would definitely go for the base iMac Pro over an upgraded 2019 iMac.

That is kind of my thoughts plus I could stay with mojave for a little longer for most of my programs .I also like the idea of 2 thunderbolt busses equaling 4 ports ,yes cooling too ! I have enough things with fans making noise to make me crazy in my studio/office lol The one gripe for me is definitely not enough TB ports on my 2013 . Adding hubs never add up if that makes sense with the cost etc . Im hoping my luck holds as my iMac 2013 shuts down like poof power off at random times , so yeah the supply is hanging on I believe .

Azrael has good thoughts about the age etc and savings . I appreciate the input .

Depends on what price you're getting that iMac Pro for. Which appears to be a moving target. The cooling is the main thing. The rest are 'nice to haves.' Especially when it can cost £1k more as an Apple refurb. And $400 more as a 3rd party refrub. If it's the same price as a top end iMac then those 'nice to haves' add up of course. And you'd plump for the iMac Pro. We know it's the more refined iMac in spec. It should be at £5k. However, these are the improvements and things we'd expect to see in the mainstream 'substantial' update which is imminent. For far less coin.

No guarantees, mind.

So, for me, still not worth it for the price as it's 3 year old. £5k. Getting it at £4k. Still over priced.

If you could get it for £3k then...'yeah.' And you absolutely need to buy a 3 year old machine right now...

I based my thoughts on it being $3500 USD which it has been sitting at refurbished at third party resellers for some time up until last week (I swear they must have seen this thread), which makes it the same cost as an upgraded iMac 2019, but with more value even if it is nearly 3 years old (won't be 3 until October)

£3500 vs £3560 for the iMac. Ofc that would swing it for the iMac Pro and it's refinements.

But that value equation is about to be revisited at the WWDC, no?

I'd say to any buyer. Wait until the WWDC and watch iMac Pro prices tank to £3k and below after WWDC. ;)

Right, however that three year old Mac outperforms the 2019 iMac. Specwise I would be spending the same on the 2019 which led me to the pro.

That is a good point though. Marketplace is not an option as it requires 6 months member and 250 posts (completely understandable).

Hey where is this marketplace that you were talking about? Thanks

If I had to have a new iMac now, I'd jump on these iMac Pro refurbs even with their "old kit" because it's still pretty solid kit.

As others have noted, you get a better webcam (I fully expect the 2020 iMac to still be 720p), four TB3 ports (yes, on an older controller, but the only thing Titan Ridge brings over Alpine Ridge is the ability to drive the XDR display at 6K) and much better (and quieter) cooling.

I have the luxury of being able to wait for some time, so I will see what the rumored 2020 iMac Pro brings to the table and if I like it, I'll wait a couple of years for it to see these price drops. :)

We'll see what 'substantial' update for the iMac really means. Hopefully soon. And we can compare the value of the iMac and iMac Pro then.

I'd expect the knock on effect to iMac Pro prices to be somewhat substantial...if the iMac update is 'substantial.' ;)

If someone offered me the iMac Pro for £2500 I'd probably take it. That's what I feel it's worth.

The in the sale iMac Pro is £3500-ish and the 'new' iMac is £3560 for a similarly matched spec. The former is 3 years old and the iMac is 1 year old. To me, I'd see us getting that 2019 spec or something better at £2500-ish.

Personally, that's where I expect the new iMac to be. Give or take.
