Update: Not resolved but we will see. Spoke with a senior advisor. We tried turning off iMessage, resetting network settings, then re-enabling iMessage to see if we can trigger the download again. He said it can take a really long time to fully download messages so we're going to give it a few more days.

He gave me his personal work contact number and email, and told me his work schedule to keep in touch and so I know when he is available for contact and troubleshooting.

Apple Support is awesome.

I am in the same boat as you, my case has been sent to “engineering” but I also was able to finally get some good customer service. I will update this thread as things progress. Cheers!

So I thought this was fixed but it’s not. Messages simply aren’t syncing across my iOS and Mac devices. What a mess

I think I made a breakthrough. I followed the procedure as recommended by ccw18 on Reddit: disable iCloud messages, disable iMessage, then 'Reset All Settings'. Upon completion of the reset I logged back into my iCloud account on iMessage, turned iCloud messages back on, reentered my wi-fi password, plugged it in and BOOM, I am back in business. I had done this earlier in the day but with no luck. The only change I made this time was deleting my VPN app (encrypt.me) and ensuring the VPN profile was deleted off of my phone. Not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I'll take it.

I did that too and it worked for a while but it’s not working again. It’s so hit or miss

I thought my issue was fixed but I realized this morning that iMessages aren't syncing between devices. I have threads on my iPad that aren't on my phone at all. And these are recent messages, ones I've gotten since I got my iPhone Xs. When I delete a thread on one device, it isn't deleting on the other.

I thought the issue was fixed as well after logging out of iCloud resetting all settings and then logging back into iCloud but there are sync issues across my devices and it’s pissing me off that it hasn’t been resolved yet

I to have had problems same as all of you in this thread. An engineer is "working" on my issue since Monday and I'm supposed to hear back tomorrow with the result.
It's frustrating since reseting the settings and logging in and out seems to work but only for a while then stops. I have almost 20gb of messages in the cloud and can't get them to sync.
I even installed the 12.1 beta in hopes something would work but still same result.

Hopefully Apple can get this sorted out.

Is Apple still looking into these sync issues? I upgraded from an iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone XS Max about 3 weeks ago. iMessages are syncing fine between my iPhone XS Max and iPad Pro & iPad Mini 2. SMS Text Forwarding however hasn’t worked properly since upgrading to the XS Max. After I receive a new text message on my iPhone XS Max, there’s a delay of 1-2 days before the text finally shows up on my iPads. Incoming SMS text messages showed up on my iPads instantaneously with my 7 Plus when at home on my WiFi network. If I send a text message on one of my iPads, it does immediately get sent through my XS Max even though I receive a warning on the iPad that the message couldn’t be sent. The iOS 12.01 update had no effect with this text forwarding issue.

Good morning.

Last night I got my new iPhone Xs and choose the option to bring my iPhone 8 near it and set it up that what. I restored from a backup (that I freshly updated before starting) and everything went fine.

However I’ve noticed my iMessages are not completely synced. I have all the messages from my wife saved going back to the day we met and I always transfer them to a new phone. iMessage was syncing all night on WiFi and it still seems to be about 2 weeks behind. I don’t see any indication that it is still syncing. Is there anything I can do to force the rest of the sync?

Today’s iOS 12.1 update appears to have fixed the issue I was having with SMS text message forwarding. I received a text message on my iPhone XS and this time it immediately showed up in Messages on my iPad Pro. Prior to the update it was taking 1-2 days for incoming text messages to show up on my iPad.

Great. I came looking for an answer — downloading 12.1 right now.

Same here. No sync between iPhone and Mac aswell as iPhone and iPad for SMS messages. iMessages seem to work most of the time.

Sounds like. So I guess we just wait for them to sort it?

As much as I hate to I may just do this too. One downside for me is my old phone is no longer active with a SIM card and so I can’t activate messages. The last ones it got was on Friday before I setup my new phone. I can live with the messages from the last 2 days being lost if I must but it would be nice to fix it.

Right now these are my iMessages:

iPad Pro: completely up to date.
Old iPhone 8Audacity Find My iPhone Origin Last update Friday.
New iPhone " Xs: Begins Friday, has older messages but has approx a 1 week gap between 9/14 and 9/21.[/QUOTE

tempted to back my old phone up to my computer and restore the new one from that. But I don’t want to do all this if I don’t have to.

Anyone contacted Apple about this?

It’s been months and I’m currently having this same problem. Any update?
I am currently having that issue. One text message thread got deleted so I factory reset my phone and restored it from a backup that had that thread and now after restoring that thread has not popped up. I’ve also been having issues with the downloading from iCloud message disappearing in the middle of restoring my 12GB of text messages. I contacted Apple between the past two days finally got someone to send my case over to the engineers to figure out why this specific thread has not come over but all my other text messages have.
