I agree, but I really wish Gmail 5.0 would included attachment and link previews the same way that Inbox does.

Very very true. Email seem to "fit" better in inbox than gmail, even with fit to screen enabled.

I have to admit that I am also trying to understand the point of this new app.

Really it is Googles attempt to better organize and display email that they think is important to you (kind of like Google Now cards). I actually really like the preview feature for messages it thinks are important. I also like the categorizations, I can see all the crapstuff I buy from various retailers (plus shipping notifications) in pretty much one place.

It's prettier for quick organisational / categorisation it's very good. Plus importantly the icon is nicer too lol
