I have been debating for the past few hours to go for 11.6 or 13.3 ughh such a tuff decision.

Hmm, so $1000 for 1.4ghz 11.6" screen.

Sorry Apple, but I'd much rather get a Macbook (white).

Yeah yeah, I know it has flash memory and all that good stuff, but I'm saying what I would buy.

Don't buy any of the Sony models either then. Those are every bit as expensive for a machine with an 11" screen.

I was very tempted to get the $1299 model, til I realised they were charging AU$1599 for it here, when last week the AU$ went past parity against the US$.

I hear ya. I've been flopping back and forth too. I think, as a secondary machine, that it really should be ultra portable = 11". But....for the same dang price you get more screen, Ghz, battery life, and front side bus. Dang man.

Like a girl once told me: "some times less is more"

cross-posted

I've been waiting for the 12" PowerBook void to be filled for so *********g long.

Cons:

1. battery life is half of a basic MacBook, even with solid-state memory
2. no black bezel
3. no SD card on the 11"
4. no more backlit keyboard as with the original air

Pros:

1. the death of CD/DVD in favor of less fragile thumb-drives and SD cards
2. 11"
3. no more swivel port/door
4. instant on
5. $999

They filled that void ages ago. It's called the 13" MacBook Pro. lighter and thinner than the 12" PB, and significantly more powerful.

Glad I could help. :D

yes i know i already have an ipad and 27" i7 imac so i dont know what do. I feel the 11 may be too small but the 13" may too big to carry around idk i may flip a quarter to see haha.

I have a 13.3" and it's definitely not as portable as my 12" PowerBook. Footprint makes more difference than thickness.

;)

Hint to people making videos:
You have to hold the item still and move S L O W L Y or it's extremely irritating to the viewer.
Also, get a noise cancelling mic.
DUH!

Seriously, between the slicked back hair, sunglasses and locale, this guy is about as uncool as they come. LOL

I totally agree. If only it were $200 cheaper.

Yeah, and the nonchalant attitude like he unboxes new Air models all the friggin' day. Surprised if he doesn't forget it there in the shop after getting his iced frapuccino.

Glossy display

They are perfect, except that there is no matte option... you could see strong reflections from the surroundings in the display. It didn't look that bad as the glass display from the mbps, though. The only thing that puts me off is the missing matt option, my girlfriend is waiting for it for years on a mbp with display size <= 14" ... i will have to convince her a bit ;)

Although I need a PC (just to have) too, after buying my first Mac (being the one in my signature), I can easily say that I won't be buying any other laptop that is not an Apple.

God, I was so skeptical until this damn video. Now I'm planning out a savings plan for the 1.6ghz, 4gb RAM, 128gb version. Maybe my iPad can double as a portable 2nd screen. Throw in a Panasonic GF2 (whenever it's released) into a small bag and... *drool*

It's an impressive piece of tech, but it feels like a last note in the design of laptops. In 4 years the laptop will be a designosaur. Chop that thing up, put it in one piece with touch screen, and throw on a dock with keyboard and extended storage, and you got something. At the moment it is just another step toward getting the training wheels off the kid's bike.

Unboxing in what looks like a coffee shop?

I don't think he can get any douchier.

haha

Looks pretty darn sleek. It will be interesting to see how many people will go for the 11-inch model. I'm intrigued.

It's how I unbox my Macs. It's a piece of technology to be used, it's not a living creature.

For those of us who sprung for the SSD drive in the old MBA, we've already experienced 25 second boot times and instant-on wake from sleep. Even though the MBA is considered a slow machine, the SSD makes it substantially faster than my Core i7 iMac with standard HD for startup functions and some application launching. It's an amazing difference.

The flash memory/SSD is the only way to go, folks.
Agreed. But tell me, what exactly is so different about the new MBA versus the 2 year old one?

The smaller one is sweet. About as portable as an iPad, I'd say.

Indeed, that's why the MBA exists as a category

He definitely should´ve vowed and kneel to MBA! Ok, not that much, but I did not appreciate how matter-of-factly he tossed around thos brand new computers.
