Thats gota be the worst video review I have ever seen, I mean for one thing could he not have picked a louder place, held the camera any less in focus or thrown the Macbooks around anymore?

How did they get an invite to such an event..jez amatuers

Plus he made it seem like it was a chore to do.

The 11" looks adorable. I know, excuse my language, but, it does.

So black bezel is not because of glossy glass front which some people claim when answering questions as to why some mbp:s have silver bezel?

MBPs with a black bezel and the new MBAs have "glossy glass". The silver bezeled MBPs are anti-glare.

And I'm sure you can find the mute key, the brightness keys, the tilda key, the backlighting brightness keys, and several other obscure keys all by finding the home row too, eh?

:)

After using it for a few weeks...yeah I dont think it is a problem...you know where the light switch is to your bathroom in the dark?

He must have not slept for days in anticipation of this event. So pardon the messiness and grouchiness... Lol

one of the reasons why i bought the 11.6" is to play starcraft. with the Core 2 Duo, 320M GPU, and 4GB memory, it should be capable of smooth low/medium detail play

Yes it will be interesting to see. I've been getting sick of the bulkiness of my '08 15" MBP, but I also would like to play SC2 - from what I've seen, the 320M is about on par with the 8600GT in mine. It is half the VRAM but I would be hopeful - the 11.6" may even have a slight advantage with ~300,000 fewer pixels to drive :).

Very tempted in the 11.6 ... I wonder if I could get used to a smaller screen after using a 13.3" for so long...

Tempted by the 11.6 as well. Might replace my iPad (which replaced my MBP )...

But 1.4 Ghz? I'll have to wait for benchmarks to see if the SSD can really pick up the slack. The SSD in my Windows PC makes a world of difference (Adobe CS5 apps launch in under 3 seconds), but still, the processor does still have to work!

I've been waiting for the 12" PowerBook void to be filled for so *********g long.

Ha, ha, same here, same here, whilst I disagree with some of your pros and cons I cannot but echo the above sentiment.

Both of these look lovely. (although I must say the 13.3" tapering edges all around was more beautiful on first glance, albeit less ergonomical.)

I really don't know which one to choose.

:)

I would never buy another MacBook Air without reading a full review of its video performance. A first look that describes its "sexiness" is totally worthless. After the fiasco of the criminally underpowered first generation Air, which pretty much almost blew up any time a video was played, I learned my lesson about Apple.

Fanboys have at it.

Researching a product before you buy it???

Glad you learned.

Hmm, so $1000 for 1.4ghz 11.6" screen.

Sorry Apple, but I'd much rather get a Macbook (white).

Yeah yeah, I know it has flash memory and all that good stuff, but I'm saying what I would buy.

Yeah ok but come on, this thing weighs 1KG...Ur macbook will weigh over 2KG. Size does matter for some...And usually in electronics, smaller = more expensive.

Yes, he has a ridiculous sense of style.

However, if he's with Engaget he probably does handle new tech items all day. It's not like he was actually abusing them. And they probably took this directly to the coffee shop across the street to [try to] be the first on the street with an unboxing video.

SCII is very video card/video ram intensive, not so much on the CPU or system ram.

My brother has the latest 13" MBP and runs SCII fine with all the settings on low. Sure it doesn't look as great as Full Ultra on a desktop machine but it'll do.

I'm tempted to get the 11" MBA to replace my netbook. the atom processor just doesn't cut it

That guy is such a D-Bag "Wrapped in this totally environmentally sound plastic" ... as I'm sure your awful sunglasses are environmentally sound as well. "If you're typing in the dark you're out of luck" ... Like the display doesn't actually give off any light.

Those "awful sunglasses" are Raybans. Calling classic Wayfarers "awful sunglasses" is a bit much, but to each his own.

Don't know (and don't care) what others think, but 11.6" with 4 GB RAM and 1.6 C2D looks like a kick-ass portable.

Well, despite not caring... I think it may very replace my 13" MBP. I'll have to see how the processor holds up but I suspect with my usage that the flash storage will actually make the overall experience faster than my MBP. I could put an SSD in this machine for cheaper but I love the 11.6" form factor.

I think this weekend requires a trip to the Apple Store!

(Incidentally, I was one of those 12" PowerBook owners who has wanted a slightly smaller machine than a 13.3".)

They filled that void ages ago. It's called the 13" MacBook Pro. lighter and thinner than the 12" PB, and significantly more powerful.

Glad I could help. :D

Lighter and thinner and more powerful, yes. However, you didn't help. The footprint of the 12" PowerBook is what many of us previous owners liked. (In fact, I believe the 11.6" model is actually a little wider than the 12" PowerBook, but certainly shorter since the 12" PowerBook didn't have a widescreen.)

I've owned a 12" PowerBook, 13.3" MacBook, 15" Unibody MacBook Pro and a 13" Unibody MacBook Pro. While I love my latest machine... it doesn't fill that void. If you didn't own and use one on a regular basis, you don't know what you're talking about.

I would be first in line to buy a new MBA, if they were coming with IPS displays.

Really disappointed that it seems like this is not the case, and I'm really trying to understand why. IPS has made inroads into the rest of Apple's entire product line, from mobile devices like iPhone and iPad to their iMac desktop line as well as the latest Apple Cinema displays. I really thought that the next refresh in either MacBook Air or MacBook Pro would see Apple finally giving portable Mac users an IPS option.

Apple, I keep telling you: I will switch to Mac when you come out with a portable Mac that has a high-resolution *IPS* display on it!

Lol, true. Actually the raybans and the air were the only items with a bit of flair in this video.

But let's cut this guy some slack, as much as I dislike engadget, he has every right to dress up any damn way he wants to and talk crap, it's an unboxing video, not a gala speech. Having said that he does seem, I 'll have to agree, like a d-bag (engadget's full of them anyway), the comment about the plastic was a low blow to apple, here he is unpacking some of the sexiest and most advanced technologically consumer devices on the globe... does he have to come up with an unwarranted snarky comment? I don't know, maybe I don't get his humour.

Good fist hand video though, great to see these two new air babies unwrapped.

No excuses required. It does look adorable.

They're still over priced. Why pay $999 for the cheapest one when you can get the white MB for the same price with a larger screen, more HD space, longer battery life...
