experienced this battery issue right after iPhone 3.1 update, so i decided to restore as new phone this morning and use it without changing anything, didn't even add email accounts or applications and still experiencing same issues.

At this time my phone is practically unusable what so ever! tried turning off and on, clearing all settings, etc etc with no luck. Any tips or help would be appreciated

32GB iPhone 3GS

Did you restore in DFU mode (and if the answer is yes, are you sure you were really in DFU mode...many people get that wrong)? Also, did you set up as a new iPhone, or did you restore from a backup?

yes, i did a DFU restore and setup as new phone, same issues

I've noticed bad battery life too, I don't know what it is. I'm going to let it run down to 0 this weekend to see if the meter is just wrong and there is more charge than it thinks.

never jail broke the iphone at all, and yes i know my way around the iphone, i am sure i was in DFU mode...

i was thinking about that, but i am going to try another DFU restore and if that does not fix the issue, most probably make a genius appointment.

That would narrow it down to a hardware issue. It's possible that your battery just decided to fail during the update. Sounds pretty improbable, but still possible.

You cant do that with a 3GS can you? I could be mistaken but I thought you couldn't go back on 3GS.

I think it depends on whether you saved the backup file from itunes, since 3.1 wiped it. I have mine in a safe place. However, I've read what you are talking about, so I'm not totally sure you can use it. It would seem you can though.

NVM, to what I said, I didn't understand the new signing process for the 3GS.

If you get it back to 3.0, please tell me how, im using an iphone 3G, redownloaded the 3.0 firmware and tried to install it but all i got was errors, please tell me if you get it to work.

Seeing as everything recommended (everything I would also recommend) has failed.

My last resort or top recommendation at this point is to go to an Apple Store and state your case. Clearly, this has become a hardware issue now.

alright, completed DFU Restore as new phone and let it die and fully charged it - will see how the performance of it is, if it changes at all or the same.

I've seen similar poor battery performance ... both on a 3G and a 3GS. Something has changed, but I can't pinpoint what. It's pathetic performance right now.

your phone dropped from 49% to 10% in 26mins? time according to your clock....

dont even bother, take it to the apple store...something is clearly wrong...when people talk about bad battery life, they are talking more like a day or half a day with everything possible running...push on, fetching every few mins. You phone lost approx 40% in 26mins.....thats a shot battery.

If you DFU mode and restored it to a brand new phone and it continues, its gotta be replaced.

no doubt man, i went to my local apple store yesterday and swapped my phone out cause of a camera issues...

was a painless experience...however, right now its prob not a good time to go unless you have a appointment...they stop taking walk ins at about 7pm EST (2 hours prior to their closing time).

Grats on your soon to be new battery =) i think they will just replace the battery right there for you.
