no doubt man, i went to my local apple store yesterday and swapped my phone out cause of a camera issues...

was a painless experience...however, right now its prob not a good time to go unless you have a appointment...they stop taking walk ins at about 7pm EST (2 hours prior to their closing time).

Grats on your soon to be new battery =) i think they will just replace the battery right there for you.

True, i have something to do next to the mall were the apple store is, so i decided to drop by anyways and see what happens, i already made an appointment yesterday for Sunday noon, just incase i needed it and i guess i will...

You still on 3.1?

yes still on 3.1

On my way to the apple store, I'm at 54% on battery with 44min of usage and 1 hour 4 min of stand by...
Let us know what happens, but that definitely looks to be hardware to me.

Not sure why it just started happening after 3.1 though. Coincidence?

I have had 3.1 since the day it came out and I am not noticing much difference right now.

At 73% with almost 7 hours of standby and almost an hour of usage.

My battery life sucks now too!!! i had awesome battery performance on 3.0 too!!!!!!!! Kinda upset!!!

Can someone post a step by step how to for properly restoring and upgrading? I have everything backed up, but I'm worried about my music. I don't have all the songs that are on my iphone in my itunes library, I moved the songs from a separate folder onto my iphone and never saved all of them in itunes. Is there anyway to move my songs from my iphone to my itunes library?

Thanks

I must be a lucky one with my 3G. The battery life is less than on 3.0.1 but its not that bad for me. Not terrible but not the best.. My usage is mostly texting, 3G internet and a couple of games of scrabble..

Well was not able to talk to a genius about my issue, they were swamped, so I'll have to wait until tommorow.

Riddle me this, batman. 3 hours since the last charge. No voice. Minimal data - fetching e-mail every 15 minutes to one IMAP account. Location Services are off. Notifications are off. Bluetooth is off. Down to just 62%!! Something has changed for the worse. It was fine until sometime last week.

My battery life seems to have slightly improved on my 3GS since the update. At 1% remaining Im showing... Usage- 5hrs 21mins Standby- 1 day 1 hour

My battery dropped 30% in 15 minutes then jumped back up to 68% (+31%) without being plugged in. There's something really screwy with 3.1 and it's not a hardware issue.

My phone is having similar issues. It does down about 20% in about a 30 minute drive from home to work. Its crazy!

This is what is no confusing me now, i am thinking it's definitely a software issue, my battery life improved from the last charge, I was at 24% with 1 hour 30min of usage and 4 hours 15min of stand by. Turned phone off and on again and the percentage is up to 58%, will see what happens on the next charge, might go back to the worse again...

i really think this was a 3.1 issue though...

this is just insane, last i checked battery was around 50%, was not even using the device and i come back 30 minutes later and the screen is dark when i press the home button to wake it up, i hold the power button and get the red battery with the plug sign, so i am guessing this has to be a hardware/software issue? cannot be software alone or hardware alone, getting really mixed results but they are all negative results. This all started right after the 3.1 update was completed, so does the 3.1 update have anything to do with what i am experiencing?

Modern Combat and Battery Life

I'm running 3.1 software on a 3Gs 32mb iphone. Does it seem reasonable that playing a game like Modern Combat: Sandstorm with high quality graphics for an hour should consume over 50% of battery life?

My standby battery usage has gone from 1% per hour to 2% per hour with no changes to my settings. Other than that the battery life is the same as 3.0. I have a 3gs by the way

After rebooting and having the weird issue with the % hopping up, my phone now has gone from 100% to 90% in 11 hours.

I have a 32GB 3Gs that hasn't been jailbroken.

If that 5hrs 21min is from average usage (eg. bits of music, bits of photos, bits of safari...) those stats are below average.

Alright I just replaced my phone, will see how this one performs... The guy said that he did notice some abnormal battery usage...

One concern I had Is that when the genius replaced my phone I did not sign any papers. Although I remember having to sign a paper when I had to replace my first gen iPhone. The guy told me that there are no papers for me to sign and it's all done in the "system"

I also asked him to erase all data on my phone but I never saw him do it. So that oncerned me a bit as I have very important work/personal emails and banking information on the phone...

I beg to differ...especially after sitting overnight and through most of the next morning on idle ( If I remember right, that particular battery cycle was mostly spent playing games, surfing safari, and a little facebook and myspace). From what Ive seen since I joined macrumors, I'd say thats pretty decent compared to others complaints of crappy battery life.

With my 32 gb 3Gs iphone it very much depends on what I'm doing. If I'm playing music, the battery will drop down 2% an hour, but in an hour spent playing a game with complicated graphics and action, like Modern Combat: Sandstorm, the battery will drop about 50%.

well results for the day are very good, i am glad i exchanged the phone. I am current at 55% with 6 hours of usage and 8 hours 4 minutes of standby. Could never have gotten such results with the previous phone... Of course usage included browsing the net, making a couple calls, listing to music, using Google maps and playing a couple games...

i want to also point this out strongly, i restored the new iphone from the very first backup i took before doing anything in regards to trying to fix the issue, so it was not the software that was causing the issues, defiantly hardware and it got me at a very good time, right when i updated the firmware to 3.1 :)

That's not a 3.1 issue necessarily - mine started doing exactly that a couple of weeks *before* the 3.1 update came out. It would periodically go up or down up to 40% in a 5 minute period, and once it even decided to power itself off with no warning when it reached 37%.

Since putting 3.1 on it, it's been behaving itself - so far. I think there's more to this than a particular firmware issue. Possibly some sort of issue with the battery itself.

I guess I'm not so lucky any more on my 3G. The battery life is getting worse and worse each day with the same amount of usage. a couple posts ago I was at like 1.5 hours and 83%. Now I'm already at 74% with only 45 minutes of usage. And thats only texting. So that makes the rest of the phone pretty much useless if I'm only getting roughly 3 hours of texting for the entire life of the battery.

I'm going to Apple today for another problem, maybe I can get them to do something about this...
