The iPhone 5 is not merely a bigger screen and a new connector. Even with just those two new things, it's a BETTER screen than the previous (which was already the BEST) and a FASTER connector.

iPhone 5's display is even better than before. The processor is second to none and beats the hell out of Samsung's Exynos. Camera is better. Speakers are better. More microphones, better microphones. Thinner design, better build quality, better materials. Let's not forget about software. Samsung put their POS UI layer on Android. And a bunch of half baked features that don't really do anything apart from being a spec sheet filler. Not to mention they hardly ever work.

If one were to prefer Android, I'd recommend something from HTC or the Nexus line. Even Motorola. All Samsung does is bash the iPhone. But the funny part is that they are currently under the iPhone's foot. Their ads are hilarious. It's a sight to see that a company is bragging so much about some crap they found in some random gutter in a 5th world country. I almost feel sorry for them. Ignorance is bliss.

Ignorance is bliss, indeed. This post proves that.

I bought my mom an iPhone 5 yesterday. I got it at Best Buy. So I'm checking out, adding a car lightning charger and a case. Cashier remarked about how it was about time such a charger was available, with which I agreed if it hadn't been for a while. He mentioned he loved his GS3 and said the iPhone 5 was just the 4S with a larger screen and a new connector. He also said if he won an iPhone, he would probably just sell it.

I'm guessing he was in a joking way saying I should've gotten a GS3, and I guess part of it was a comment about having to buy new cables. It was just banter between two geeks, harmless and all.

Then I get home and I think about it. If I own an older iPhone and the new lightning cable is such an issue for the iPhone 5, how exactly will it help me to buy a GS3? That would mean needing new cables plus having a stockpile of worthless apps.

Again, no malice or anything. It just struck me as something not thought out well. I mean you know how we always think things out well around here. :)

It's no big deal.

He saw a customer buying a phone and suggested a better phone

Customer still wants the iphone, let em have it. It's no big deal.

Success leads to jealousy. Apple has been incredibly successful. Why? Because they design great products (they've fallen off a bit, but that's a topic for another post).

The iphone is far and away the best selling and most influential phone design of all time. The samsungs are essentially direct copies.

As a result of apple's success, you get haters. These losers can't stand anyone having any success, so they try to 'tear down' successful businesses and people in this pathetic, passive aggressive fashion.

I have been extremely critical of apple myself when it's warranted (IT11, mountain lion, etc.) but I don't criticize apple just for being apple.

I have 2 iPhone 5, 3 iPads, and 2 iPod touch and have to say that Apple fanboys make me want to puke. I understand the logic Android guys use when comparing phones. They focus on features and the ability to do pretty much anything you choose with a device you own. They think the limitations on an iPhone are lame.

Most IFans I come across really think that owning something from Apple makes them special. Like they are entitled or better than the next guy. Some how paying far to much for a product (Apples margins are waaaaaay fat) seems to make the fanboys feel like they are no longer worthless and alone.

I'm not referring to the people that just like IOS. If that OS works for you I get it. If you love the battery life and app polish I get that. To say Android sucks is so far from the truth. Android can do just about anything on any device. Phone, Tablet, toaster, car, house, tv, etc.

Touching phones is funny until Apple does it. Then it's magical and revolutionary.

This is why every time I go to Best Buy and they converge by the dozen to ask me "Can I help you find anything?" I always reply "Yeah, a few more cashiers up front... there's never enough when I'm ready to leave, and always far too many of YOU."

They sneer. It's great.

Not only are they (generally) horrible there, they have literally serviced me right OUT of buying more things than I've bought. And I'm the type of shopper that couldn't care less if Amazon is $3 cheaper and has no sales tax (although that's changing here).

I'm not sure what they think they're doing there, but there's a reason why they'll be out of business in 2 years and it's not entirely the internet lol...

I'm pretty sure the cashier at BB isn't making commission. He was just being smug because he thinks his phone is better than other phones. The people at my local BB are awful. I can never get in and out of there without one of them doing this same thing. They always want to comment on what I'm buying. I know what I am about to pay for, I don't need you to remind me.

You sound like a wonderful human being. Taking your retail rage out on someone who cannot change how stores are run. I have never had any sales person bug me over and over after I say Just browsing when they try to open up. Of course I do not respond like an arse in the first place.

----------

Can't you can pretty much do the same kind of thing using an app like Bump?

Bump has limitations and is not as convenient nor as fast.

----------

Yes. Nothing new there.

See above.

As I said before, I don't think he was doing anything inappropriate, at least with my personality. I considered it at the worst smack talk. He probably could tell that I would be the type to enjoy that. He was also a cashier, not one of the people in the mobile area.

I just found it kind of weird how he saw the GS3 as better because of pretty much a bigger screen (I understand that) and not needing new cables. I spent a grand total of $40 on new cables for this phone for my mom, so now she has two for home and one in the car. The case I bought her was the same price, although she took it back and got another one that was $5 less.

You realize that for android phones you can buy 40 cables less than $40?

Just search micro usb cable on ebay. 0.99 each.

I hate going in there and knowing more than the salespeople about almost every product in the store. If I want Apple product advice, I head to the Apple Store. If I want video game advice, I head to GameStop. Everything else is pretty much "must do research online prior to entering store."

I usually buy iPhones straight from Apple. But BB had $50 off, and it's way less of a mortal sin than getting one from Walmart. I'm amused that my mom didn't listen to me a month ago and get one at Target for the same price, but it took me pulling the trigger. I was sick of hearing about the little troubles you get with a 3.5-year-old phone and then her saying "I'm fine" when I bring up a new phone.

But I think that's just half the moms out there.

Quoted and saved.

Heh, I'd be willing to put money on it actually. It's a stupid idea because it adds an extra (and completely unnecessary step) to sharing. I'm sure they'll implement something like AirDrop for iOS in the coming years, but it won't involve bumping your phones together.

(Hey, I just had an idea! Samsung should call this feature "Bumping Uglies". It's catchy and describes the look of Samsung's phones perfectly!)

Stuff like this is what pisses me off. Everyone trashes on Apple for "just making the screen larger," yet the evolution of the S2 to S3 is basically the same thing. Different case design, slightly faster, larger screen, yet everyone touts it as the best thing in the world.

The double standard is ridiculous because Android makers are more guilty of this than Apple (look at HTC, 1x -> 1x+). S1 -> S2 -> S3 are all small evolutions, just like the various iPhone releases.

(and no i'm no Apple hater. I've owned so many Android phones over the last couple years.) This "Apple isn't innovative, but Sammy is" argument is ****.
