This right here. If you need 128GB and decide the XR isn't good enough for you, you have to jump to 256GB in an XS which is indeed $350 more...Good review although I think this review omits considering the storage issue. It’s £100 more expensive to increase the base storage on XR. So really, for anyone who thinks 64GB isn’t enough, the pretty screen on the XS costs £350 more, not £250 more.
Longer than any other iPhone. How’s the battery life though on the XR?

On top of that, what if the XS is just too small? Now you're jumping up to an XS Max 256GB and that's $450 more lol
I hope it's good enough but I have this feeling I'm gonna be getting an OLED model
As I’m typing this on my XS Max, I’m not gonna lie - there may be a bit of buyers remorse over that extra $450 it cost me based on these reviews. I think the shocking thing is the reviews on just how well the single camera does (especially with portrait mode on the back camera).
I’m gonna have to start asking myself if I really just want the Max to have the “best” product!
Honestly the 128G XR at $799 seems pretty clearly a better buy than the 256G Max at $1249. I’m gonna keep enjoying my phone but I get the gut feeling I didn’t make the smartest purchase
A lot of reviews just popped up. I think the verge nailed this though. It’s a great phone and most people will be happy with it. For me though the xs max screen is worth the premium. It’s a very close call though however. This will probably be the phone I recommend to everyone
The XR display is brighter than those were, similar ppi, and edge-to-edge.But for $600-700 we used to get the premium display, the premium phones but now people gotta pay $300 more for a better display? Not a great way to justify it whatsoever.
I've been bugged by the storage amounts as well. The iPhone 7 that is now two generations old at least came with 128GB for the same price (not to mention the same screen PPI!)Good review although I think this review omits considering the storage issue. I know.. I know.. may actually be what sends me back to upgrading to the XS.Ugh...off-axis pink shift.![]()
It's only portrait mode where this is an issue on the XS. Soltion: don't use portrait mode in low light.I have brought this up before. The dual-lens system with Apple has some drawbacks in that it uses data from both lenses when it isn’t really necessary.. or helpful. Apple should let people isolate the WA lens in-use. Yes, I know there are apps that do but from my experience I always go back to the processing of ‘stock’ Apple photos as they outperform most of the images from other apps. Yes, I also often edit in LR. Apple seems to provide the best ‘base’ image IMO.

Not true. Any image taken with the XS/XSM or any of the Apple phones with dual-lens will combine data from both lenses. It's only portrait mode where this is an issue on the XS. Soltion: don't use portrait mode in low light.
You can use the wide angle lens to shoot in low light on the XS.
Verge said:That’s not to say it matches the quality of previous iPhone LCDs. The iPhone XR LCD definitely shifts a little pink and drops brightness quickly when you look at it off-axis, which often leads to a bit of a shimmery effect when you move the phone around. I noticed that shimmer right away, but I had to point it out to other people for them to see it; it’s one of those things you might not notice at first but you can’t un-see. Apple told me the XR display should match previous iPhone LCDs in terms of performance, but side-by-side with an iPhone 8 Plus, the off-axis shifts are definitely more pronounced.
I think you misread something. This only applies to portrait mode. It has to do with depth sensing. Not true. Any image taken with the XS/XSM or any of the Apple phones with dual-lens will combine data from both lenses.
