I want one but I’m waiting for the sim-free version. If Apple doesn’t release one, oh well no Xr for me.
If you buy in full from Apple, you can put any SIM in the phone. It comes unlocked.

I know this will go down badly, but anyone who pays an extra £50 for the XR over an S9 needs their head checking.
Not everyone wants to use Android, especially those people with a lot of Apple products. That doesn't mean someone should seek therapy.
[doublepost=1540421554][/doublepost]Some having buyers remorse due to reading some reviews from strangers is not really logical, in my opinion. If your current phone doesn't meet your needs, that is one thing. However, getting caught up in review frenzy (where most of the videos are a rehashing of bullet points with very little hands on lengthy testing) is quiet another issue. The reviewers don't pay your bills nor do they use the phone in the exact manner and places you do.

Before playing credit card roulette, go to store and try the XR in person. Spend some time with it.

It's still a solid lower cost option? I am not sure what you are saying here. I am happy with my Max as is. If they happen to make a software adjustment, that's cool by me, but I am not sitting here expecting them to or upset that the XR takes better low light pictures.
I guess I was just highlighting that even though it’s he low cost option, it has a few areas it outperforms the upper tier models, which wasn’t expected.

But you’re missing one major consideration, [iOS versus android.] It Has nothing to do with the hardware or the price point. The user is devoted to the platform, so for that “$50”, I would gladly pay *more* than double just to keep iOS in my ecosystem over Android.

I think better low light portrait photos is the only thing that’s potentially better that I wasn’t expecting. Personally I’d choose the ability to use portrait mode on things outside of humans, so pretty much a wash to me.

The battery too (but everyone knew that).

I’m hopeful they add the fake 3D Touch to more areas of the phone (supposedly Apple told the Verge they were) and add more objects for portrait mode in the future.

I’m personally excited for Friday when mine arrives!

Battery life will depend on the user, but I expect good battery life from the XR. I saw that, I don’t know how I feel about them yet because I like the feel of 3D Touch, but I’m sure it’s adequate. That’s great, I’m sure everyone will be happy with the phone.

As others have said it’s the Apple eco system. I love the Samsung Note but it won’t do the things I’ve become accustom to on iOS. I also don’t believe any Android device would’ve lasted as long as my 6s Plus.

You don’t get it? £250 is a chunk of money and £750 is already a lot of money for a mobile phone. Pushing it further to £1k makes it a significant purchase which may not be a big deal to you but not everybody has a grand to blow on a phone that easily.
.

I get what you're saying, the logic just doesn't fit in with my fiscal discipline. If 250 made a big difference to me when considering 750 or 1000, I'd be buying a phone for 300... If you catch my drift.

If I were Apple, every year I would make sure that a very prominent feature of the "lower cost" iPhone was noticeably better than the higher price model. They should be giving the regular iPhone buyers something exclusive every year. That would definitely help sales of those models.

I’m different though as £750 is the maximum I’d want to pay for a phone. I’m happy paying a premium of course so it doesn’t mean I should only be paying £300. The £1k price tag is what I take issue with and thankfully you don’t have to pay more than £750 to get an up to date iPhone with all the exciting features.

This doesn't make much sense to me. Slightly better low light in portrait is just a result of not having the telephoto lens, I don't see it as a selling point one way or another. There is still a lot better about the XS line. Exclusive features will likely stay with the flagship models.

This isn't the only thing that's better about the XR's camera compared to the X's. If you're zoomed all the way out on either phone, on both the XR and X you'll be using the single lens. The sensor on the XR is way bigger = noticeably better photos. Many sites compared this in their reviews...

I thought the XS and XR had the same single lens aside from the telephoto? Either way, I don’t think a slight difference one way or another matters all that much. I could never go with the XR, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad option for a lot of people. Just not for me.

Yes they do. What I'm trying to say is that this also means that most pix, most of the time, will look better on the XR than on the X.

I thought you were saying that low light portrait was the only advantage, but I guess you were comparing the XR to the XS, sorry.

Okay? That's expected, it's a newer phone with a better camera. Yes, I was referring the XR camera advantage over the XR. No worries.

He/she was talking to me about the X compared to the XR, saying the XR had a better camera. Which I felt was obvious.
In that case I always feel these improvements are so slight it’s more marketing than anything else. Unfortunately what a lot of people don’t understand is having a better camera doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get better pictures lol. The X and 8+ has a stunning camera at the end of the day and most users aren’t going to notice a huge difference if any at all.

I agree, most flagship cameras are very good today, and you're right - the person taking the picture and the conditions can make or break a picture, regardless of the camera.
