Maybe those black screens when opening an app is an indicator for new splashscreens? Like the one in the new apple support app when you open/close it.

I think the people observing that the battery problem has been solved in 10.3 are experiencing placebo effect.
Has anyone actually measured the resolution of battery consumption problem on 10.3?
One day my battery life was horrible. An app called Weather Line took up 80% of my battery even though it doesn't require your location and BAR was disabled. It's been fine ever since though. Battery slightly worse than 10.2.1 but fine in every day use.

Can someone try downloading a podcast episode and tell me if it works for them? I reverted to 10.2.1 because of this because I couldn't fix it; tried hard reset, reset network settings, cellular connection, wifi connection, no success.

I'm sure it's been discussed but am I the only one who is bothered with the black app opening (native Apple apps; when you first open it)? Maybe I just got used to it being white but it just looks so out of place.
I also discover it quickly. And personally speaking I hate this change. But some of my games use this way to start the app (give a black screen before showing the actual start screen).

It's not a "change" it's either a bug or a new placeholder for a new animation similar to that of the Apple Support app.

First day I installed the beta on 16gb iphone6, (working perfectly btw), available capacity increased by nearly 1gb to 3.1gb. Now, almost a week later & without installing any new apps, I'm down to 2.6gb available.

I've done the large film iTunes "hack" to clear the cache, no perceptible change.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on??

Thanks

Betas create rather large log files. That's why when one beta is over I unenroll in the beta program and do a restore to the release version to purge that stuff. Usually frees up 4-5 gb for me.

Does APFS give the phones better loading times? Any improvements on older phones with slower flash memory maybe (iPhone 6 and below)?

iOS 10.3 b1 is an improvement, but lets not kid ourselves that it's 'buttery smooth'. iOS 6 was buttery smooth. iOS 10 is, like, crunchy peanut butter smooth. It's ok some of the time and then booooop u get a big ole nut. I mean it's better than the disaster iOS 9 was for sure but it's nowhere near buttery.

Just updated to 10.3

Using a complex wallpaper, all of my apps stutter when opening and closing now... on 10.2.1, it was just Safari and Mail that would do that.

However, if I use a simple gradient, it's smooth as silk.

Here's one of the wallpapers that makes it stutter

and here's a wallpaper that's fine:

I'm using an iPhone 7 Plus by the way and the display is set to "standard".

I know it sounds a bit weird that a wallpaper would make a difference but in my case it does make a difference. I would say only a handful of wallpapers make opening and closing apps smooth, but most of them will make them stutter (even the Apple wallpapers)

Also, it doesn't seem to stutter until you change the wallpaper from the default one, to a custom one. Once you put a custom wallpaper on, it starts stuttering (unless you get a good wallpaper like the sunset one I posted).

I'm unable to replicate this with any of the wallpapers you've posted. However, what I am noticing is that the wallpaper lag when switching apps that was present in all of the previous iOS releases (especially the first few versions of iOS 10) seems to still be present when switching from the Music app. This is the only time I've seen the wallpaper visibly lag when switching apps. It drops down while fading out, and the app switcher jumps slightly. Not quite as dramatic as the first few iterations of iOS 10...but it's there. Just an observation. Otherwise, the app switcher is just about flawless now. App closing is also now fantastic. I haven't been able to replicate the app launching/closing lag with any wallpapers though.

I have the black screen in the Apple Support app too.

This is quite interesting, and would explain what I saw in this screenshot.

It reminds me of ZFS; I wonder if APFS's architecture took ideas from ZFS. I'm certainly not going to complain as ZFS is an amazing filesystem!

"APFS, the Apple File System, was itself started in 2014 with Dominic as its lead engineer. It’s a stand-alone, from-scratch implementation. I asked him about looking for inspiration in other modern file systems such as BSD’s HAMMER, Linux’s btrfs, or OpenZFS... all of which have features similar to what APFS intends to deliver. (And note that Apple built a fairly complete port of ZFS, though Dominic was not apparently part of the group advocating for it.) Dominic explained that while, as a self-described file system guy (he built the file system in BeOS, unfairly relegated to obscurity when Apple opted to purchase NeXTSTEP instead), he was aware of them, but didn’t delve too deeply for fear, he said, of tainting himself.

http://dtrace.org/blogs/ahl/2016/06/19/apfs-part1/

I think some ideas are common across more modern file systems, as they can be going for some similar things.

what device are you on? people on 2015-gen iPhones and later are reporting super smooth animations. I'm on a 7+ and there's a noticeable improvement over 10.2.1.

Hi guys,
Recently I found problem with playing movies or videos on my apple tv 3 which give me error on video playback and not showing photos in my photos app unless I turn on screen mirroring.
Before it I used to play movies with infuse app in background playback mode without any problem. But from iOS 10.2.1 public release and now on iOS 10.3 beta 1, I reached this problem.
I don't know this problem caused by iOS or not!
Any one knows anything about this guys?

Concerning the Ipad Air2 Orientation Lock Bug: at least i found a way to get orientation working without rebooting:

1. Lock the device
2. Turn the Device in differient orientation
3. Press home button to Unlock
