I'm running Public Beta 5 currently on my iPhone and iPad mini 4 and it FLIES. There's hardly any lag and it feels smooth and looks great too.

This is what I thought iOS 9 was going to be like, but ended up being the opposite. Apple's very own marketing material made it sound like it was supposed to focus on bug fixes and enhancing performance. In my opinion, iOS 9 was even glitchier than iOS 8 was and the performance was CRAP.

Even though they finally smoothed out the performance for iOS 9.3, but for some reason while doing that, they brought down the performance of the games that used to have 0 lag whatsoever. Even with the performance boost that 9.3 got, iOS 10 still beats it hands down.

Then, when 9.3.2 came out, the auto-brightness brought even more lag to the table by rendering games barely playable if the lighting changed for whatever reason. This actually happened to me more than you would think. I would be outside playing a game, and if the sun went behind a cloud, or someone walked by causing a change in the lighting conditions, my games would stutter like crazy. iOS 10 fixed this for me and auto-brightness no longer affects games.

So far, iOS 10 is shaping to be the breath of fresh air that we needed after the performance disaster of iOS 9. I really don't understand why iOS 9 was such an issue for them to get it working properly.

That being said, there are still some things that need fixing in iOS 10, but it's already miles ahead of the very best version of iOS 9.

I may even start liking Apple again. I was starting to wonder about their competence.

Well, at least we won't be seeing thread after thread about micro-stutters and the like as we did with iOS 9, especially in the early days...or will we...

Would "iOS 11 is the OS that iOS 10 promised to be..." pop up again next year?

iOS 10 is not promising better performance like iOS 9 did. So far, everything we're seeing in iOS 10 is what they advertised it to be.

iOS 9 specifically stated that Metal would bring smoother scrolling and app performance, but that's not what we got. We got lags and frame drops everywhere. Then, instead of getting better, it got worse in some areas and better in some areas, but it still wasn't up to par with iOS 8.

Also, the addition of input lag really brought it down a few notches from iOS 8. It makes it hard to do anything with any sort of speed, if you have to wait for the animation to be completely settled down before making another tap. I'm not talking about tapping mid-animation, but sometimes it will look like the animation has finished, but it really hasn't and it will ignore your first tap. iOS 10 still does this in a lot of areas, but at least the animations are faster and smoother now.

iOS 9 was fine. In fact, most versions of iOS have been fine. And most versions have minor problems when they are released, did you post a bunch of threads nit picking each one of them too?

Honestly, iOS 8 and 9 performed roughly the same on my 6+. iOS 10 seems to be about the same as well.

I think you just have unrealistic expectations. There was no disaster. A dropped frame or stutter is not the end of the world.

Difference between iOS 8 and 9 were night and day to me.

iOS 10 feels like I have a new phone.

You are running and iPhone 6? I miss 8.4 and having touch input during animations sooooooo bad! And iOS 9 did take performance down about a half second to a second with opening all apps. Is iOS 10 really faster than 9? I'm on the fence to jailbreak my 6 on 9.3.3 so I can speed up the animations too. What to do.

I'm just pleasantly surprised with how well iOS 10 runs in the beta stage. I've run buggier x.0 releases.

Yeah, here I am saying nice things about Apple's new OS and I'm still getting picked on. Why can't people just admit that iOS 9 was slow and stuttery? It's evident by how smooth and fluid iOS 10 is and it's the SAME DAMN PHONE.

Probably because it wasn't like that for everyone. Does it matter though? If it was that way to you, does it matter what it's like to others? Would that change anything for you?

It sounds like iOS 10 is good, or at least better for you in that respect. And that's good. There will likely be others that won't see it as good or better in one way or another, but that won't really impact you feeling about it the way you feel, right?

It either wasn't present in all devices and/or it wasn't noticeable to all users.

I don't think it's reasonable for you to believe that everyone has the same user experience as you. People use their phones to do different things with different apps in different environments. There are even small variations in hardware that can cause minor differences. The end result is a lot of variability. And then just to top it all off, user experience is extremely subjective; what works for you may not work for someone else and vice versa.

I'd suggest letting it go. It'll be easier for you and everyone else.

I'm sure the 6s was fine on iOS 9 because there is enough power to brute force it's way through the bad code.

Having only an iPhone 6 and iPad mini 4, my iOS 9 experience was bad.

However, since its VASTLY improved in iOS 10, I can safely assume that it was not my hardware, but rather poorly optimized code.

Also, I've done lots of restores and set up as new on multiple occasions in iOS 9 and it has never been as good as iOS 10 is (and it's only in BETA!)

Also, it's sort of jarring to see the full length animations now after getting used to only seeing the tail end of them most of the time in iOS 9.

iOS 10's performance reminds me of how iOS 8 used to be.

Why can't you just let me be happy for once? I'm saying GOOD things about Apple's new OS. I'm being treated like I'm complaining when I'm actually doing the opposite.

It's no secret that iOS 9 was slower, so I don't know where you're getting the idea that it was fine for most people. There were countless threads on iOS 9 performance and people going round and round about it because it was TRUE. Maybe some hardly noticed because they were using the latest hardware, but since new hardware never ran the older OS, there's nothing to compare it to.

I have an iPhone 6 and my experience with iOS 9 wasn't as bad as you universally claim it was. Is ios 10 quicker? Yes, but that doesn't negate the fact that everyone's experience of any particular iOS version can and will always be different just like T5BRICK said in the post you quoted.

I have an iPhone 6+, which has the same processing power as the 6 but a higher resolution display.

Be happy. I'm not sure how my good experience with iOS 9 has any affect on your happiness.

The "countless threads on iOS 9 performance" were started by a comparatively small number of people. From the ones I participated in, it seemed that those folks just wanted to nit-pick and complain about something that most users either don't experience or don't notice.

Back to the topic you originally posted. iOS 10 is great, but I think iOS 9 was too, so I can't make the same comparison as you. Every version of iOS has something new to offer, so in that respect, each version will always be "better" than the last.

This is a forum of apple fanboys. If you critique apple someone is going to pop up and defend them. iOS 9 imo, was the worst iOS release to date. I am however enjoying iOS 10 and I agree with your original post.

Thank you. Someone understands at least.

I forgot how bad iOS 9 was because I got mostly used to it, then it was quite jarring to me to use an OS that was mostly lag-free and it really makes you go "Wow! It feels like I have a new iPhone now!"

Nice overgeneralization and labeling--that often works out quite well in reality. So is that why there are often more (or at the very last more than plenty) threads and posts complaining about something or other, or just being negative about Apple in one way or another?

It's the standard "I or someone I'm defending said something and people are disagreeing with me/them. THEY MUST BE APPLE FANBOYS!!" here.

Critique? Hahaha. Almost none of the complaining around these forums can be classified as a critique. Flat out hating something and everything Apple does is not a critique. Generally constructive criticism or a critique follows up with solid reasons why and legitimate ways it could be improved that make sense to more people than just make it tailored to what that one persons wants (not needs). Not just "I hate it, whaaaaa".

A negative and then a positive. Not 100% negative.
