can i ask you just a simple question: how do you find yourself with the new lock screen, esp. the new method to unlock the phone? i have an iP5 too and i'm a bit reluctant to update, because i feel the new unlock system was made with touchID in mind.
how is it now, double home press and then passcode?

I'm using a SE, however I upgraded my old iPhone 5 to see how iOS 10 would be. I was quite surprised that it wasn't as slow as I thought it would have been.

The double clicking the home button and then passcode is annoying. I would not like that if the iPhone 5 was my daily driver. It feels awkward and you can tell this new lock screen was not meant for older devices.

That's normal for the first 1-2 days after updating, iOS does it's usual background things like indexing, scanning for the new learning algorithms etc. It is going to be much smoother in 1-2 days.

I can vouch for this. My iPhone 6 Plus was unusually laggy. After a couple of days, it's as smooth as butter. There's some background work going on after the update. Some of it is processor intensive, like identifying objects and faces in Photos.

This.

On 4" devices, the new lockscreen clock also feels unnecessarily big and near the middle of the screen instead of being near the top. The design language doesn't look optimised for older devices (or 4" devices) like you said. Could be because of the new Widget view on the left of the lockscreen.

The design language isn't optimized for anything really :-/ many controls are comically huge on everything from iPhone 5 to the big iPad Pro.
