[doublepost=1496861322][/doublepost]Probably for the iPhone 8
Hardly : rumours currently converge on the iPhone "8" still having volumes buttons, a mute switch *and* a power button. It would be difficult to boot the phone without it!
I'm not really sure why there's this new option though. Maybe it's a way to tell the user "hey, before resetting anything, why not just shut it down and restart?"

I wonder if we’ll be able to make a Control Center shortcut to disable notifications.

Sometimes I have to walk away and leave my phone charging at work, and while I always turn on DND, I feel better turning off notifications in case someone picks up my phone and activates the display.

All kinds of weird things with iCloud Photo Library. After a couple of resets it seems to have settled down. Except it shows a higher count of photos than my iPad and Mac.

That’s odd because it works fine on my 7 Plus and iPad Pro.

Picked up the iPad this morning and the quick scroll to the top is now working ok.

Good to have a software restart button in case something goes haywire with the physical button.

For anyone with iOS 11 installed, can you verify whether the new control center and lock screen behaviour allows for disabling access to notifications and control centre only while the device is locked?

I'm asking because, in iOS 10, you could disable access to this things from the lock screen entirely, even when the device isn't locked (i.e. after authenticating with Touch ID but not clicking the home button) but I'd like to be able to access them at that point. The reason why I have access disabled from the lock screen is not to prevent accessing them there, but to make sure it's only ME who's accessing them. It's annoying to have to go to the home screen to use control center currently!

Thanks

Surely the missing swipe to get rid of a notification on the lock screen must be an oversight? Having to use quick reply only to dismiss the notification is hopefully not the way they intented it. I keep ending up on the camera!

Exactly. I’m having a really hard time getting used to this.

I thought about that too, but how do you even restart your phone then (since it's "Shut down" and not "Restart")? I find it very confusing... Anyways, I guess it's still better to have that option for certains situations!

My suspicion is that Apple has pretty good data that a shutdown resolves the vast majority of issues with the physical button. For those it doesn't, the phone was destined for the Genius Bar (and the refurbishing barn) anyway.

I’ve noticed that iOS 11 adds an additional option to the ‘Fetch’ Mail settings.

In addition to the usual “15 Minutes,” “30 Minutes,” “Hourly,” and “Manually,” there is a new option - “Automatically.”

Any idea how this works?

Love the fact that when activating airplane mode, the phone will remain on the Wi-Fi and bluetooth devices which is connected, like Airport, bluetooth phones and Watch.

I just read an article that people are reporting setting Fetch to "automatically" enables gmail "push" in the Apple Mail app.

I just read an article that people are reporting setting Fetch to "automatically" enables gmail "push" in the Apple Mail app.

I saw that, too, although mine seems to be pushing with my fetch still set to “every 15 minutes.”

The article also mentioned that the push gmail only works when the phone is charging and on wifi, which is not true.

Can someone confirm if ios 11 restore gmail push for native app, that's my biggest gripe since functionality was taken away!

https://9to5mac.com/2017/06/06/ios-11-appears-to-restore-gmail-push-in-apple-mail/

I deleted and re-added my Gmail account, but doesn't seem to change anything, same as iOS 10
If I recall that was due to Google and MS and exchange licences when that was pulled some time ago. Only way to get push with gmail is by using their app. I use a work around whereby I have the gmail app installed and it bings and gets the unread indicator when email comes in, but I still use the native mail app to actually manage mail. So basically the gmail app installed just to get the push notifications :) Although its not a horrible app I just prefer the native app plus have other email accts in there as well.

That’s the thing, It does not turn off. Tapping It just ends all current connections.
Report it as a bug to Apple. I tried it several times just now and didn't have any problems, ousidet of there being a slight delay.
Its a known behavior in the release notes:

You can disable notification previews on the lockscreen now for any app, if that's what you're looking for. It's in Settings > Notifications. Disabling previews also disables the 3D Touch actions.

I found a very simple way to brick an iPad Pro 9.7"!

To Reproduce:
  1. Open Mail app in 3/4 right pane.
  2. Start a new message.
  3. Make a Notes popover on the right, hovering over the message.
  4. Open a note that contains a photo.
  5. Repeat 15-20 times:
    1. Drag photo onto message
Restoring now, just over 24 hours since installing it. It's like a Buddhist sand painting.
Interesting, The only way I could get it to do that is by hopping on one foot while facing east and chanting Apple, Apple, Apple while performing the above steps. o_O

Or the other way around. If Apple relies on screen too much, only user will pay for their ignorance. I can’t imagine Apple adds every single device to their domain and centrally control all idevice.

Well, why it is displayed that way when volume is not 0? A bug.
