I have a quick question for anyone running the iOS 11 beta. When you have the driving mode on can you allow certain apps to work... e.g maps? Will the screen still stay on for sat nav?

Thanks :)

Driving mode DND isn't working in beta 1 yet.

Oh right, thanks anyway.

I can't see them not letting the sat nav work when DND is on... at least I hope not!
DND is mainly to not display and be distracted by extraneous notifications, so more than likely using apps will work fine, especially something like navigation.

The scrolling lag is stronger than ever in iOS 11. I would like to believe that it will be fixed in the final release, but unfortunately, Apple has a history of not fixing things like that. Take iOS 10 app switching animation — it still stutters on iphone 6 and especially on ipad air 2.

Have you tried this: Lag? Try this!

The re-shuffling of Control Center items took a ***** year?
And still we can't decide what's included.
Uh what? There actually is. Go to Control Center options in Settings. There's a whole wack load of settings there. You can add/remove whatever you want except for the essentials.

That's it, I'm done with Apple. I gave them this one last chance to sort the operating system out and they've done almost nothing.

Time to switch to Android.
Awww muffin. Were you really expecting this update to be huge? C'mon man. No recent iOS updates have been gigantic. They've all been small updates. And are you seriously giving up after BETA 1? Dude, there's most likely 7 more betas of iOS 11 to go, pretty much all of them will add new stuff.

Where did I say I wanted Apple to do what I wanted all the time?

I was expecting/hoping for night mode, customisable control centre, and grouped notifications. People have been asking for these for 2 years and Apple have responded with a huge F.U.

I'm gone.
Control Center is customizable. You can remove/add anything you want now except for the essential toggles. Smart Invert is somewhat similar to night mode, and that'll be improved in later betas. Grouped notifications are never coming back, unless they somehow make a return in a later beta.

While i agree that alot of people keep a phone longer then 12 months the whole security thing is just overblown. Ive never had my android phone hacked and i don't know anyone that has. I use my phone for almost all of my internet banking btw. However if security is a big issue for you then you can always grab a Pixel which gets the updates straight away.

I find heavy Apple users are usually stuck in the Apple ecosystem and that is the root cause of them not changing to another platform. The best thing i ever did was get out of the Apple ecosystem after the iPhone 4, and back then Android still had a way to go to get near iOS, these days it has surpassed iOS and continues to pull ahead imo. I still use and love Apple products but i stick to Laptops and Desktops which are much easier to use cross platform.

What is it about Android O that you like so much? I updated to it on my Pixel, and found it very much the same as Android N. Nothing very exciting.

Nothing in particular, Android has always had great features and customisation, its the usability and OS smoothness/Power management that continues to improve on each OS release, which was Androids biggest downfall 5 years ago.

I simply went back to iOS 9 which runs perfectly smooth. Of course, i miss all the fancy features like message stickers and a full set of politically correct emoji, but I think i can live without that garbage. In my opinion, iOS 9 is perfect.

Yet it's not receiving security updates or anything anymore to keep your phone safe and secure. I'd highly recommend updating your phone's OS dude, seriously.

I don't surf the web on my phone, so the risk is negligible for me.

what a sweeping generalization. I decided not to use Android because it's based on a fundamentally flawed architecture (a Java VM? lol please). This is why iPhone 6s still runs circles around Galaxy S8 in terms of memory management and app load times despite it having 1/4 the CPU cores and 1/3 the RAM. Aside from the terribad architecture, Android is an unsecure spyfest and the app quality is very poor next to iOS.

After seeing some YouTube impressions of iOS 11, I'm actually fond of the update. The little things build to fundamental improvements. I look forward to installing the public beta on my iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2.

I suggest you go and look at some speed tests, the S8 actually loads alot of apps faster then the 7 Plus. Talk about generalisations....

If you don't know the answer to that question then you should just stick your head back in the sand. Ignorance is bliss :)

Nah come on, its only been YEARS...they will for suuuuure fix this in iOS 12..right? RIGHT!?!

Didn't they just remove this feature in iOS 10? one of the most requested features and we got nothing. On top of getting nothing but big fugly bold fonts everywhere and wasted space. I never thought I'd see Apple design become tasteless and ugly.

I can't stand the aesthetics of Android. There is nothing I want from it.
Not the mention the underlying architecture and Google's laissez-faire attitude towards apps (yeah I know, they "cleaned up" shop lately... right).

Ditto with hardware.

You'd be better served if we all used https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
This is the first iteration of iOS 11. There is plenty of time and Apple are watching the reactions and will adjust small things that are pissing people off. They will also introduce things we don't know about yet.

Rofl k thanks for the laughs. You’re in the wrong forum btw

Went back to iOS 9? How exactly?

Nope, im in the right forum. I own and love Apple gear, just not anything that has iOS on it as it does not have the feature set im after. I bet you have not even used an S8, yet you carry on like a porkchop about how much faster an iPhone 6s is despite there being countless speedtests online showing the S8 outperforming the iPhone 7 Plus.

My opinion about iOS11 is:

Ok CC is a bit customisable (although horrible to see and work with) and you can drag/drop with iPad via the new Dock.

It still lacks quite a few features I really had hoped to see such as:
  • User profiles (on iPad)
  • Have word swipe keyboard feature in Apple's own keyboard so you have both dictation (Siri) and swiping. I now have to use a third party keyboard such as Google's Gboard for it which isn't really good at word prediction and privacy wise dictation?
  • Search option + (de)select/locking apps for what is now Dock for selections apps for Slide Over/Split View
  • Have a feature to clear cache on apps such as Facebook via the iOS. Third party apps are out there but don't work really e.g. for Facebook app (I know it's a horrible app)
  • Control Center should have a clear UI and not to big. E.g. look at a few screenshot from Magic Launcher/Launcher kind of widgets which you can customise as far as icon size and what to show instantly e.g. WIFI name and switching between them by clicking on it (also with older iDevices with 3D Touch) and have the option to select (third party) apps aside of settings in CC.
  • Give back third party apps the right to use URL schemes in their apps/widgets e.g. to Settings features see also the Launcher topic. I know they still work but they had to remove it from their apps though.
  • Wifi prioritization
  • Make the use of URL schemes for apps mandatory
  • Ability to change default apps for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, ...
  • Split Screen/Slide Over / Picture in Picture (PiP) on iPhones besides iPads
  • Widgets on lock screen, like Complications on watchOS.
Control Center
Design is bad indeed and takes up so much screen space. It's partly customisable. I also don't like it that you can select third party apps or third party quick actions to be there. I will currently stick to my third party Launcher/Magic Launcher widget in the Notification Center although were asked to remove it a few months ago but luckely the existing URL schemes for Settings still work (or at least in iOS10 with these third party widgets).

Indeed I would rather see also the option to adjust the size of the CC quick actions and to be them all pretty much the same size or at least give us the customisation what we would like to see in CC right away (e.g. wifi name, bluetooth device name, current music track).
Also what I don't get is why you can't see instantly your current wifi name or bluetooth device(s). I also wonder what happens if you click on it if it switches to WIFI Settings and the different WIFI/Bluetooth connections that are available. I don't own 3D Touch devices so I want to see things instantly.
