I also want to keep my phone as long as possible and I can assure to you that my 6s plus is still very fast and fluit with iOS 12.

The thing I don't like when using a version of iOS older than 2 years is some apps start to stop supporting this iOS version so if possible, I want to be as up to date as possible on my iOS devices.
I rarely use apps so have no issue using ancient ios builds.

I just updated my 6 and its unusable. Insane lag and apps crashing all over. Disappointment so far. I suddenly have that "I need a new Phone feeling..."

Everything was fine 45 minutes.

Steve Jobs would be ashamed.

That sounds like a device problem. I know people who have the same phone (excluding MR users) and there have been no problems. Hit or miss, perhaps, but those kinds of problems don't seem commonplace.

I'm on a 6S. It works just fine for me. I haven't noticed any differences in performance, but there are a few UI tweaks that are nice.

4 days on iOS 12 with my 6s has been GREAT!! This is the best iOS for me since iOS 9 that came with my 6s. Except for apples music app which I hate. I love Cesium music player better.

Here is an article about why the 6s is the best iPhone and it hits on all the great points including getting a new battery and compatibility with iOS 12. My 3 yr old iPhone is like brand new with a new battery for 29.00 and a new iOS that’s very polished why would I need to upgrade?

iOS 12 is super fast on the iPhone 6s!

Whoever says it made their 6s slow... is either lying and have not updated yet or their 6s is due for a battery replacement.

Also make sure to update through iTunes for a cleaner install, backup and restore with iTunes if you run into issues.

Another happy 6s user. All super here. Also wife's iP6 has a new lease on life. She even mentioned did I do something to her phone because "it seems to be faster for some reason if that makes since". Yes it makes since :) I fixed it LOL.

My 6S is still on iOS 10. I’ll never upgrade.

i like this. it closely resembles where i am at right now.

iOS12 + 6s = smooth. no problems. just works. *

*6s has never been known to be really good on battery life. iOS 12 has not worsened battery life at all.
its still ok. not stellar, but stable. and i am a heavy user of apps.

i am a frequent hiker and long walker. i enjoy the weight of the 6s vs. the heavier iPhone X(s) models.

the only thing that makes me think about getting the new iPhone Xs is the much much faster LTE cellular capability in it.

On my son's 6s, the battery life seems to be the same on iOS 11 and 12, in other words not so great and noticeably worse than on iOS 10.(Battery health is at 89%)

When iOS 11 came out, there were numerous long threads here and on other forums about how iOS 11 ruined battery life for iPhones 6s, 7, and etc. I don't see anything like that with iOS 12. It's possible that the battery life is actually ok on iOS 12, but it's more likely that people upgrading from iOS 11 to 12 don't see much difference - I don't see anyone commenting that the battery life has noticeably improved with iOS 12.

I'm thinking about keeping my 6s on iOS 10.3.3.

I charge my 6S running iOS 10 once every 10 days when I'm not traveling and once every 3 days when traveling. My rule of thumb for upgrading the OS on an iPhone is this: Don't.
Unfortunately that rule doesn't really help when some new features or compatibilies are needed for one reason or another.

But at what cost? Were these so called new “features” worth the performance hit? I think not.
