I don’t use emojis. Can’t think of any recent iOS update which is relevant.Unfortunately that rule doesn't really help when some new features or compatibilies are needed for one reason or another.

Do you actually use your phone?I charge my 6S running iOS 10 once every 10 days when I'm not traveling and once every 3 days when traveling. My rule of thumb for upgrading the OS on an iPhone is this: Don't.
Depends on the features or compatibilities, and on the supposed performance "hit".But at what cost? Were these so called new “features” worth the performance hit? I think not.
I guess others have had other iOS updates that have had much more in them beyond some emoji updates.I don’t use emojis. Can’t think of any recent iOS update which is relevant.
Yes.Do you actually use your phone?
I have no idea what this means.I guess others have had other iOS updates that have had much more in them beyond some emoji updates.
10 days seems a lot! I charge my 6s on iOS 9 every two to three days and I'm not a heavy user at all. I do agree entirely with your rule of thumb, though.I charge my 6S running iOS 10 once every 10 days when I'm not traveling and once every 3 days when traveling. As others have said, iOS 11 crippled the battery life of the 6s, and iOS 12 didn't improve upon it - according to what I've read, and I can testify about a 7 I've seen - therefore, I don't think there's much you can do.Iphone 6s user.
Had 10.3.3, I tried to install iOS11, I was scared with glitches and battery drain and went back.
So I am coming from 10.3.3 now to iOS12.
It really flies. Super fast, maybe faster. Like a new phone. Amazing update for an older phone in terms of efficiency.
However, again I am not at all satisfied with the battery. Something goes really wrong. I am having drain when I am on screen and using the phone, not in standby. I may lose all of a sudden 3-4% in a minute. Some crazy jumps like that are not normal. I may open 4-5 safari tabs and lose 6-7%. With Low Power Mode enabled things are much better.
I have turned off all not needed features and be careful with the fetching of mail, apps using my location, siri search etc. I have the same settings as in 10.3.3. However it drains a lot faster. I will try to calibrate the battery this weekend, hope it improves a bit, cause it is very disappointing. The only disappointing thing but important one.
Keep it. iOS 12 will at least cripple the battery. My battery is amazing on iOS 9.On my son's 6s, the battery life seems to be the same on iOS 11 and 12, in other words not so great and noticeably worse than on iOS 10.(Battery health is at 89%)
When iOS 11 came out, there were numerous long threads here and on other forums about how iOS 11 ruined battery life for iPhones 6s, 7, and etc. I don't see anything like that with iOS 12. It's possible that the battery life is actually ok on iOS 12, but it's more likely that people upgrading from iOS 11 to 12 don't see much difference - I don't see anyone commenting that the battery life has noticeably improved with iOS 12.
I'm thinking about keeping my 6s on iOS 10.3.3.
I think anyone having battery issues with iOS 12 is most likely due to a degraded battery and those people should spend the 29.00 to buy a new battery.
The battery usage is the same for me on iOS 11 as it is on iOS 12. However I have a brand new battery a few months ago. My battery health shows 99% and with iOS 12 I’m getting over a day of usage on a full charge on my 6s.
Same battery drain on my 6s. I got a new battery in January but this update is costing me battery power through out the day. All battery tips have been tried and still a heavy drain. I keep hoping that a 12.1 update might help.I did spend 29.00 on a new battery, and everything was fine with iOS 11. Maximum capacity at 96% as of now.
This update has changed that and now I have the same experience as ddd13 above: massive percentage drops in battery life when performing perfunctory tasks like reading emails. Listening to a podcast absolutley wipes out the battery. A one hour podcast costs me about 50% battery life.
Are there any issues? I try not to beta test, but just wanted to ask what is your experience and is it safe to upgrade. Is it worth it?

I installed the iOS 12.0 in my iPhone 6s plus and now i cannot access my Verizon wifi in my house. i keep getting messages on my phone that the password is incorrect for the router so i cannot call a cab ,play games , or watch my drama fever app tv shows. etc. very annoying. never had this problem with a download before. Are there any issues? No one can really know for sure what might or might not help someone with some issues of this nature, they can just suggest or point out some things and it's up to those who might be experiencing the issues to see if that might be something they want to look into or not.My son's 6s battery is at 89%, he gets about 4 hours of usage. When I was having battery drain problems with iOS 11, I had a brand new battery installed, which did nothing. I also tried clean installs several times with no effect before I went back to iOS 10, which miraculously increased usage time from 4 to 6 hours. I wish people would stop telling others what they should do based on pure guesses with no data or experience to support their recommendations.
Your experience matches everything I've read thus far. iOS 12 improves performance, but battery life remains as bad as it was with iOS 11. Ignore the health, it isn't the culprit (91% health on a 6s on iOS 9, getting 8-9 hours with ease). My son's 6s battery is at 89%, he gets about 4 hours of usage. Yes.
I don’t use non-Apple apps. “Pre-iphone’ means 2006 or before. Battery technology has increased potently in that period. How exactly are you using your phone then? Even in the dumbphone days pre-iPhone I never had a phone last that long.
This is yet another reason to not upgrade iOS version. There will be more bloat to gobble up the battery power. You can generally see it with newer iPhones which usually mNage to squeeze in a larger battery but stay constant with length of battery hours. More bloat to suck the life from the battery. For those with battery issues on your 6s I would suggest re visiting this procedure. I noticed a few days after I downloaded iOS 12 that in the battery info it was showing that google maps was using over 30% of my battery.
I think that might be true for some but me iOS 12 is so much better. For me I couldn’t wait to get off iOS 11, it was so glitchy and studdery, I’ve never had so many issues with an iOS. I kept my 6s on iOS 9 as long as I could until apps I had to use no longer supported and I was forced to use iOS 11 (I skipped iOS 10)This is yet another reason to not upgrade iOS version. When I got my last iPhone I think I googled for iPhone battery savings and disabled every feature like this app refresh junk. I only update when I decide not on irregular uncontrollable manner.
No security isn’t a problem.
Really? I'm surprised. Every single mention of iOS 12's usage in amount of hours was significantly worse than iOS 9. (Like 5, 6. I'm getting 8-9).I think that might be true for some but me iOS 12 is so much better. For me iOS 12 is as good or better than iOS 9 that came pre installed on my 6s.
Well if I could have iOS 9 back I would but apps I used everyday no longer supported it. iOS 12 is better than 11 at least for me. It’s made my 6s like new again with a new battery at 29.00 there’s no reason to upgrade.Really? I'm surprised. Also, I'm surprised you find it as iOS 9. That shows Apple did a great job. Although I did see a not so great battery on an iPhone 7 (3 hours of usage and it had 30% left). One thing is 'better than iOS 11' and another, entirely better, is 'equal to the original iOS version'.
App compatibility is my main issue with staying with older versions of iOS. I have said that several times, and out of all the disadvantages that staying with an older version of iOS, I'd pick app compatibility as the worst.Well if I could have iOS 9 back I would but apps I used everyday no longer supported it. iOS 12 is better than 11 at least for me. I had an iPhone 5 before my 6s and I use to think that my iPhone 5 was the last great iPhone but now I consider my iPhone 6s the last of the great designed iPhones, portability is a plus.
