Anyone else having iTunes (12.8.0.150) sync/device recognition issues with their iPhone X devices on public betas? Everything was working great until I updated MacOS (and iTunes), then when connecting my device I got the "A software update is required to connect to iPhone", then upon attempting an install I get a "can't install software because it is not available on the software update server error" message. It's like they forgot the profile for recognizing devices on beta in the new iTunes ver o_O

I’m having issue with that iTunes PC version too that it doesn’t detect it’s the latest version when updating or restoring iOS Reported it.

Okay! Thanks for the update! I guess it's just the usual Apple Quality Control standards as of late, they must not have added the current device support for the beta devices into the latest iTunes build/or made it available on servers. Just wanted to make sure my system wasn't SNAFU from the macOS update

Edit: Is it recognizing your device at all? Or Just not displaying the correct version/device info? I can't even get mine to be recognized as attached hardware, so I can't sync music, see device information, etc..

Not sure about Windows but probably the same as Mac. You need to install Xcode 10 beta and start it. Then it will download its components. Once that is done, it will start syncing again.

Hmm.. I did also just update to 9.4.1 as I updated everything else, and now the you mentioned it, it didn't download additional components on launch like it usually always does after an update. I'm downloading the Xcode 10 beta atm (5gb...)

Just strange that I didn't have any issues before now with it recognizing the device while on beta until the latest iTunes update.

Yeah, definitely strange. I had this surprise this afternoon when I tried to sync my phone after updating my Mac. Took a while to figure out to download Xcode beta and had fingers crossed that it would fix it.

Why first?!

Because a beta isn’t officially supported release software. All sorts of wacky things may be wrong with it. One of three things will happen and it will likely depend on the knowledge and customer-centricity of the person you talk to at the Genius Bar: -

1) They tell you the beta isn’t supported and to go revert to iOS 11 and restore your backup (you do have one?) and see if the battery still looks bad. I believe they’re in their rights to do this.

2) They blast 11 on for you there and then (they will want to make sure you have a backup somewhere before even attempting this though) and check the battery health. They’re exposing themselves to risk here because if you don’t have a good backup from iOS11 you’re not going to be happy.

3) They replace the battery without question, despite the beta being installed.

It’d certainly be nice if they do 3) but they’re certainly within their rights to do 1)

Read section 7 of the T&Cs you agreed to by installing a beta. Sections 9, 11 and 12 are relevant too but I won’t quote them.

Yeah sounds like you're on the mark, I tried running the "
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode -runfirstlaunch" terminal command and its not letting me download the latest device support files because the IOS beta build isn't supported, guess I'll have to wait for the Xcode 10 beta download to finish to get the latest device support files (since Apple isn't kind enough to correctly host them on their servers for the usual iTunes download method, as it should be) They'll probably add them to their servers later after Xcode finishes downloading. lol.

They'll probably fix it tomorrow. I hate downloading Xcode beta. It's huge and in that stupid .xip container.

Yep, at least I guess I get to use the new Xcode dark mode now.. ;)

Thanks for the heads up though, forgot about the latest device support files being replaced with the fresh iTunes install and the additional Xcode components trick

Downloading the Xcode 10 beta, first run to install the components and after did the trick. However, unfortunate iTunes on Windows you can’t update or restore iOS 12 other than backup and sync.

Beta 1 was running smooth on my old iPhone 6 but it’s gone down ever since. So much lag like opening photos from that annoying app switcher on iMessage for example is a slow pain in the butt.

This is the DP3/PB2 thread. Have you updated?

Is anybody else experiencing issues with Touch ID? Specifically on an iPhone 6s my issues have come through. I can't scan any of my fingers after using it in a third party app and it won't even let me add new ones after using a third party app.

Does anyone else have a red notification badge stuck on their settings icon since updating ? I got it for the automatic update and it hasn’t gone away since updating.

Yes! This and the fact that contacts aren’t syncing with my watch is über irritating

Mine too. If anyone has a way to fix, please let me know. I've already added my cards to Apple Pay previously, so it has nothing to do with Apple Pay for me.

Same. I just added a new one to see if that made it go away. No dice.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but notifications going to my apple watch show as phone numbers rather than contact names with iOS 12 beta. Reset sync data fixes it for a couple hours and then it goes back.

Was not an issue on beta 1 or 2.

Reset sync data didn’t work for me at all. Sucks.

PB1 would disconnect Carplay whenever I put the car in reverse. Working great now with PB2

Yeah this is one thing that’s working way better now. Had so many issues with Car Play in prior betas.

The only thing what sucks is there is no way to see how much I have used my iPhone since 100% battery. I can only see the time from 12am to 11:59pm. But not from 100% battery until now.
Yeah, you used to be able to roughly estimate battery life by comparing iPhone usage time since last full charge to remaining battery life. For example if you used your iPhone for 6 hours and your remaining battery life is 40%, that’s about 10% depletion per hour of usage and you can expect roughly 4 more hours, or 10 hours total battery life from full to empty.

While imperfect, it was really useful to estimate how total battery life changes when you install a new build or beta of iOS.

The Settings app is crashing again when I try to open Screen Time. Reported: #4489079.

Edit: I erased all content on my 6s, then restored from an iCloud backup. Screen Time is working again.
@jhall8,

I did the same and reinstalled. It’s working again. Odd. Have you had any reoccurrences since reinstall?

Thanks.

Has anyone noticed that you are more likely to take moving pictures? Especially photos that look like they are superimposed on top of each other, with several moved photos a few millimeters apart. I get that a lot.

I got the popup last night after downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes when I was attempting to sync some new music to my phone. There was nothing indicating which program it had come from so I ignored it. I tinkered with the "manually manage music and videos" option and after clearing itself a handful of times it finally stuck and let me sync.

I am running pb2 and I cannot update my Apple Watch software now to 4.3.2. I keep getting a message saying that the phone cannot connect to the watch. I tried unpairing and repairing my watch to my phone and doing a hard reset to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Someone recommended that you delete the beta profile from your phone, restart your phone, then update your Watch and it should work. After, you can reinstall your beta profile. Haven’t tried it myself though.
