I say tomorrow , 9to5Mac said Tuesday and there are usually right.

Normally I’d lean against a product introduction event day, but this one’s different in that it will be over before the usual drop time of 10 am PT. Dropping it tomorrow gives them something more to talk about at the iPad/Mac event: Group FaceTime, eSim and all the emoji.

I can’t imagine Tim standing on stage talking about all the new features that debuted “yesterday”.

Boring!

No, he’s going to say “Available for download later today!”

I was thinking the same thing. It’s an event in NY, so definitely not their typical MO.

when have we seen an iOS release at a event before though?
We haven’t. Not that I’m aware of. But this is only the second time Apple is holding an event in NY, before their typical 10am PT event time. This entire situation just seems different.

But the new iPads wouldn't have been available "yesterday" to debut the features on.... and the features that are in 12.1 for existing devices are well known about because there's been a beta, and they were all "coming soon" at the iPhone event anyway.

Or, "Available now!"

no need to mention iOS 12.1 at the event when like you said the features were announced at the iphone event and there has been a beta. the event will be jam packed already with ipad and mac announcements. pretty sure it will take a while to go over the ipad pro since its a major redesign. and if there are multiple mac configurations they will touch on those for awhile also. im also expecting an adobe appearance and some gamer company presentation taking up stage time. it also depends on if there are other products being released. going over the iOS features that were already talked about before is not necessary.

Tomorrow it will be out a lot of articles on twitter saying it as well, we can all wish today but today will be quiet and tomorrow is apple day :)

If the assumption is that 12.1's final build includes code specific for products being announced tomorrow (iPads with Face ID for example) then I guess it makes sense that Apple won't release 12.1 until after they announce the iPads. My vote is for tomorrow after the event.

Haven't such things already been found in the betas?

I hope it’s released today. I’m sick of randomly losing LTE data on my 7 and having to reboot my phone to get the data to work. I should’ve stayed put on 11.4.1.

You need to stop focusing on the fact that there has been a beta. For 99% of users, there has been no beta, as in they haven't used it. For them, its new. There's no way, they're not going to mention Group FaceTime and, especially, the emoji, even if in a 30 second bit at the beginning of the session.

There have been images / icons of the new iPads, but to my knowledge, no new iPad specific code. The one everyone's been looking for has been evidence of landscape FaceID, but I don't think anyone has found/verified that in the existing beta code.

lte not fixed in 12.1 unless beta 5 isn't final but doubt its fixed

Didn’t they announce Group FaceTime like a year ago? Can’t be a new thing if they are just re-annnouncing it
