Columbus Day is on Monday 10/8

Probably not. So... sometime this week hopefully. :)

Not to mention that it is a somewhat lesser holiday than, say, the Fourth of July or Memorial Day. I think most people work that day (please, please no one start arguing about whether Apple gets the whole week off or not...)

Whole week off. :) good one!

Well, I am a software developer at a large company and get the day off :D
In all seriousness I truly hope we see something this week. My guess is tomorrow for 12.0.1

12.0.1 today hopefully

how many betas are we expecting of iOS 12.1 if there is an iPad/Mac event this month?
I'm not sure the event has any bearing on the betas. Usually we see 5 to 7 betas of point releases. Should see #2 this week. Maybe we'll move to once a week beginning next week or the week after, so that would put us at 5 or 6 by the end of the month.

They will need to do an urgent release for the charging issue, surely?
I feel like the fact that customers are going on two weeks with reduced cellular network connectivity is more of a pressing matter than needing to tap your screen to make it charge. My phone is virtually useless on campus. Those with iPhone X/8Plus/8 have no issues at all.
