Unfortunately Android is even more frustrating....

I always maintain both an iOS and Android device for testing. naturally I can’t speak for all devices but the Pixel 4 series is quite impressive and the OS (by comparison) rock solid. I’m just not a fan or gesture implementation.

All that aside the finals in iOS 13 have been riddled with bugs. For example the last DEV beta was fantastic then moving to the iOS 13.3 general release created tons of problems.

Well for the first time in YEARS I rolled back this beta. Back on 13.3

I honestly don’t care what any Apple apologists will say to this but the dev team needs to sort their s@$!) out.

They are not managing their code repository properly at all. A simple code merge with the last dev beta at the least would have prevented these ridiculous bugs from rearing their heads.

Carrier versions that are out of date for no reason, speakerphone and noise cancellation which is utterly and totally broken. Full restore, full settings reset, nothing resolves that.

Developer and Public betas with NO Release notes!

How the hell are we supposed to even test for anything?

The only time I’ve seen anything even remotely close to this level of chaos was at Samsung 15 years ago in product development. We would rotate dev teams on each generational iteration. And the old dev teams never documented their code. So we would spend 3-4 of the six week code development timeline reverse engineering the code from prior teams. It was a tremendous waste of time and ultimately lead to very buggy phone software. (This was before Android)

Apple needs to mature their processes. The industry has long since learned from the sins of their past. Stuff like this and stuff like what happened with the Boeing 737 max (yeah I know totally different product) gives me great concern about the future of software.

all that said. You gotta give massive props to the hardware engineers and manufacturers. Imagine we had these levels of issues with the actual device builds? LOL

I don't really know why they're releasing 13.3.1 as a beta with no release notes; hence they don't actually want us to test anything specific. They're not reading most feedback requests anyway, especially any that relate to bugs that started months ago with 13.0.

Yeah... it’s troubling to say the least. And I don’t wish to name names but engineers of significance who were former employees now old colleagues who went on to work for Apple aren’t as confident with the direction things have taken the past few years.

Steve Jobs was no angel and nor was he a god but his deep involvement in the product development process helped keep focus on quality over quantity. No doubt were he still at the helm innovation and feature development would take longer but it would ultimately be worth the time.

idk. I still love Apple’s products. But I’m losing confidence and if the software ecosystem opens up I may seriously consider jumping ship and focusing my investments on alternate platforms.

I’m hoping they can turn things around.

I’m with you on this one. Final release added bugs and then 13.3.1 improved quality over 13.3 final release. I’m no longer losing my data connection, I’m able to pair my smart mouse to my iPad Pro 11-inch again and battery life has improved. It’s funny how a first beta of a newer version is less buggy than a final release that went through several betas.

As far as the share sheet goes, not seeing that bug on my iPad or iPhone 11 Pro. Experience on my iPad has (from my point of view) been flawless. That is the one device where it has overall been smooth sailing going all the way back to betas of iOS 13.0.

I’m happy with 13.3.1 beta 1. I’m glad I updated.

Disagree. Android has improved greatly over the years as iPhone seems to be going the other way. I use both and my iPhone is currently the frustrating device.

Except that vendors stop updating their devices with new versions very quickly - big reason why my 6 tablets are now unused. I used to put custom ROMs on to get around this but it just got to be too much of a hassle. Android as an OS may be fine but vendor support absolutely sucks (I have Motorola, Asus, Google, Amazon & Samsung tablets. And 4 Samsung phones replaced by my excellent XS Max).

Not that I test Android, however my main device is a Razer. Android has had fewer bugs than iOS 13.x. Now if I could get the build quality (my Razer has been through two repairs - speaker cover loose, display went out) ...

One thing I wish Apple would allow is changing the default apps. ;)

Resurfacing of an old bug .... this stopped being an issue but it's back.

Mail: On the XS Max I have several accounts under Mail. On the IPP I have one account under Mail. This account is also on the XS Max. Read all the unread emails on the XS Max. Logged onto the IPP about a half hour later and saw I had 13 unread emails. These were emails I had already read. They showed as unread on the IPP until I manually refreshed.
So apparently syncing issues between devices for Mail is back.

No issues here. I've found the most of the time this is related to your network setup and hardware.

What home hub are you using?
I won't go into details here because I don't want to derail this thread, but the only thing that has changed between working flawlessly and acting wonky was the update from iOS 12.x to iOS 13.x
So I highly doubt it's due to my setup in general. I'm also not alone with this, Reddit and forums are full of people experiencing this issue.

iPhone 11 Pro running iOS 13.3.1 beta 1 on Verizon - anyone use their speakerphone since upgrading? I had a call this afternoon and used my speakerphone and was told unless I kept my phone on mute or switched speakerphone off, others heard nothing but interference sounds and noise coming from my phone. I hung up and dialed back in twice but same results.

Could have been a coincidence but wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience.

Did notice that my carrier version was downgraded to 39.5.1 instead of 40.0 others are reporting.

iOSBry
I’m having the same issue

Same problem. Speaker phone has been rendered useless with the crackle and echo.

I went back to 13.3 but after realizing I didn’t want to reload everything from scratch, I reinstalled 13.3.1b1 and did a restore. I haven’t had any complaints so far from others so I’m hoping that fixed it. On top of that everything seems to be running much faster.

My god the unread email bug drives me nuts too. LOL.

and yes the build quality on most android phones is not up to par. Apple is STELLAR with hardware design and component selection. (With exception to that God awful Intel modem they insist on using.)

As far as frequent updates and quality you really need to focus on the Pixel devices. They’ve done a very nice job with the new 4. The battery life is sadly lack luster but the experience of using it is very pleasant. And consistent.

No speakerphone issue for you? 👀

This fixed my last persistent bug that arrived with 13.0 and made everything else better as well. Best release yet. Too bad either it or 13.3 couldn’t have been the actual 13.0 release. Anyway after having this final bug fixed I’m doing my happy dance!
