Yes, the A9 series will get iOS 13. It’s the first to have 2GB RAM, and the iPad Pro has 4GB. 99% sure the A8 will as well.

First, because Apple has never dropped more than one major series of iPhones at a time.

Secondly, the iPhone 6 and 6+ are still very popular in use today.

And third, they still sell the sixth generation iPod touch.

The take away from all of this, is Apple's good about battery optimization at a minimum

IMO there’s a strong possibility that they will drop all 1 GB devices but nothing else.

Only a week left before WWDC and still no credible leaks. In fact, when you search for this topic, the first hit is this thread.

Interesting that Google displays the poll results, but doesn't list the votes for A8X or later.

It also doesn't list the poll question, making the results a bit confusing.

Since iPod 6th gen & iPad mini was available till recently, I think A8 devices will be included for iOS 13, though these devices might struggle a bit on performance.

As the iPhone 5s has had 6 versions of iOS, I expect that much going forward as well, which would make iOS 13 available for A8 minimum. Would also mean SE and 6S should get at least iOS 13 and 14.

A7 & A8 iOS devices should be axed.

Only A7 devices will be axed as the 6 (A8) was still selling in developing countries recently.

Nobody running an iPhone 5s in mid-2019 is worried about staying current. It'll be six years old when iOS 13 is released. It shipped with iOS 7 for heaven's sake.

Certainly there’ll be more criticism when the time comes for the dropping of the SE, if Apple hasn’t released anything else with a smaller screen by then. If new devices don’t tick boxes for them, it’s not always that owners aren’t worried about staying current.

Should be axed? Do you work for Apple? No customer wants anything axed.
I don't work for Apple, but I'd prefer to see all 1 GB iPhones, iPads, iPods axed.

That means my preference would mean a minimum of:

iPad Air 2
iPad mini 4
iPhone 6s/6s Plus/SE
iPod Touch 7th generation (2019)

However, my expectation is that A8 with 1 GB will be the minimum, meaning:

iPad Air 2
iPad mini 4
iPhone 6/6 Plus
iPod touch 6th generation (2015)

However, if A8 with 1 GB is supported, I'd expect that configuration to be missing some features, vs. the 2 GB models.

Even at this point, I still believe Apple will cut A7 and A8, probably A9 devices altogether. HomePod and iPod is different, and Apple can cut support of only iPhone and iPad devices. The bottom line is, Apple can theoretically cut any device they see fit, with no reasonable pattern at all.

As per rumors, 2 GB RAM would be the minimum hardware requirement for iOS 13. This means all devices from iPhone 6 and below would be dropped. iPhone SE and iPad Air 2 will get another reprieve due to presence of 2 GB RAM.

I dunno. The iPod 6 (which has A8 and 1GB RAM) was discontinued less than a week ago. Apple doesn't usually drop support so early.

I’m in the minority, but I think all A9 devices aren’t making the cut. If the SE isn’t, the 6S isn’t.

And who told you the SE isn't making the cut or the 6s isn't making a cut?

I can tell you my dad's SE is snappier for general usage than my X or the XS Max/XS I've used at the Apple store.

Here's my speculation for iOS 13.

Safe: iPad Air 2, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad mini 4, iPhone SE, and any later devices. These have 2 GB or more of RAM.

Cut: iPhone 5s, iPad Air, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad mini 3, iPod Touch 6. These have 1 GB of RAM.

We'll find out for sure soon enough.

I think they'll drop all A7 and A8 device except the Air 2's A8X and up. Usually, iPhones have 5 years of support. The 5s was an exception. iPhone 6 is almost like a 5S performance wise and it perform very poorly for today's standard so I'm very convinced these devices will have the cut.

I think they release a new iPod touch because they'll drop support for the 6th gen touch. Its not a coincidence IMO. We'll see in a couple of hours!

I agree. If that happens the SE would have a shorter lifespan than iPad 2, iPhone 4s or iPhone 5. The SE is much more capable than those were in their later years.

I feel all A7 devices will probably be dropped out. All other devices will probably get iOS 13. But chances are only A10 and above will run iOS 13 to its full or near full potential (like most devices ran iOS 12).

I say forget the 1gb ram stuff. They won’t drop the A8 devices. They never have dropped to extremely popular iPhone generations at the same time, and I don’t expect them to today...

Team RAM vs. Team SoC

Given the history of Apple iOS, I'm still putting my bet on Team SoC. The cutoff for iOS 13 will be based on SoC.

As for A8, I can see them dropping it this year. Apple has already provided 4 years of major iOS updates for it, just like they have for previous SoCs.
