Has anyone else noticed that the Apple autocorrect system is biased in favor of proper names? I use the slide to type method of input (IQuickpath, I believe). I’ve noticed for some time that if I type a word that the system thinks is ambiguous due to the close location of certain keys, it resolves the word frequently by selecting a proper name.
For example, I slide typed the word “wants”. In three successive attempts, I got “Eames”, “Sammy’s” and “Wendy’s”.
Now, the swipe pattern for some of those is close but not (obviously) identical to “wants”. My question is why Apple would set up their algorithm to choose a proper name rather than the more likely word “wants”, which has to be used at a frequency rate 100s if not thousands of times greater than those names (note: I don’t message people with those names nor to my knowledge ever used “Eames” in my inputs (before today, of course). “Wendy” is a possibility due to the fast food restaurant).
I switched to SwiftKey to see if that made a difference and it does the same thing, likely because it’s probably tied to the same ambiguity resolving engine as the main keyboard.
I’ve reported this, but of course there are no other reports.
