For me, everything was working perfectly until I actually updated my watch to 7.6. That's specifically when it broke.
Sorry, I meant to write it started for me during one of the last beta's of 14.7, not 14.6. My watch was also on 7.6 beta at the time so I can't be certain if it's an iOS issue or WatchOS issue.

@ZeeDD @Jayson A Same issue with unlock Apple Watch. With face mask unlock OFF, it unlocks the Apple Watch without notification. With face mask unlock ON, it takes 3-4 tries before the Apple Watch will unlock, with notification.

I tried removing the watch and adding it again but that doesn't work. Toggling the features on/off doesn't work either. Looks like it's still broken for Face ID phones. As far as I can recall, it started happening during one of the last beta's of 14.7.

I guess we'll get a 14.7.2 at some point.
First time trying, it did not open my watch, series 5. Did a volume up, volume down power cycle and all is fine now, watch opens up.

I don't no if I'm in the right place but I really need to no something if you think a photo is been changed how do u return it to it natural state I tink my hubby is manipulation photos

I tried a normal reboot on my iPhone and that didn't help. What does the volume up volume down thing do that a normal reboot doesn't?

It’s like a soft reset. Press and release the volume up button, then press and release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button (right side) till the apple appears and then let go. Phone will reset and stop all running apps. This is for a phone with no home button.

For iPad Pro with Face ID: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Top button until your device begins to restart. Continue holding the Top button until your device goes into Recovery Mode.

For iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery-mode screen.

For iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, or iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Don’t release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Continue to hold both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.

Nothing really. Its basically a hard reboot when your device may not respond or cannot be restarted the normal way. Some folks think is does more but in reality it equates to pulling the plug on your computer if its locked up and you cannot reboot it. Apple has provided a support document explaining this.

[Edit] To clarify, @Banglazed post below is a better explanation. I was referring more to what folks call a "hard reset" and do that as a routine way to shut down their devices verses the normal shutdown method as mentioned below. Got my train of thought off toward the "hard reset" statement folks seem to recommend doing as a normal way to restart their devices. (Option 2 below)

Yup, same build

There’s 2 options with that.
1. Shut down - quickly press and release volume up, quickly press and release volume down, hold power until “slide to turn off” appear. This is the same as going to Settings>General>Shut Down or press and hold both volume up + power to slide to turn off but this gives additional option for SOS.
2. Force Restart - same as above but just hold power until the Apple logo appears - use when device is unresponsive.
It’s better to shut down than force restart because force restart is a hardware level restart that cuts the power for a split second which is the same as pulling the power plug/battery from your Mac. While Apple may have safeguards against data corruption, it’s still better to shut down properly.

So far so good on 14.7.1

main issue was me was the music playback for lossless audio when not connected to wifi or cellular. Now works properly

guess time will tell how battery life is. Has been fantastic for me on 14.6

Thanks for the tip! I was having issues unlocking the watch w/ iPhone after 14.7. Turning off “unlock w/ facemask” fixed the issue, unlocking my watch w/ my iPhone seamlessly.
iPhone 11 Pro and Watch series 6 running latest software for reference.

iOS 14.7.1

Release Date
― July 26, 2021
Build Number ― 18G82
Darwin Kernel Version

iOS 14.7.1 fixes an issue where iPhone models with Touch ID cannot unlock a paired Apple Watch using the Unlock with iPhone feature.
Can someone explain this? Is my phone supposed to be unlocking my watch? I only have to type the passcode in after I put it on my wrist…My watch has never been able to unlock my iPhone; I assumed that feature was reserved for faceID iPhones.

This feature has been there since watchOS 5 and supports both touchID and faceID phones. When you unlock your iPhone, it's suppose to unlock your Apple Watch as well. Been working fairly well for me until 14.7.

The setting for it is in the Apple Watch app.

updated both my 12 Pro Max + iPad 11 (M1) to 14.7.1

hopefully the battery drain on the 12PM is gone. don't know what causes it but now and then the battery will just tank even when not being used.

also my 12PM battery life is still at 100%.

Ok this morning again it would not unlock (the watch) with phone. Went into settings (one phone) and, Face ID & passcode, enters passcode, slid down to unlock with Apple Watch, turned off. Now one again took watch off wrist confirmed it was locked and phone locked. Put watch back on wrist, it was locked, opened phone and once again it worked.

Weird issue with 14.7.1 - Mail app suddenly using tons of background activity.

I don't even have an account in there, so just deleted the Mail app...

You replied to my post, but I will echo this as well, though for me it started with 14.7.1. After updating, it shows up as background activity over 2 hours or so while connected to the charger.

No accounts added to the mail app, no background app refresh and it isn't even open on my phone.

I know that this update is supposed to solve the unlocking of an Apple Watch with iPhones that have TouchID, but since I updated myiPhone 11 Pro Max (Face ID) to 14.7, it won’t unlock my Apple Watch. Updating to 14.7.1 hasn’t cured it either.

There’s a new update for watchOS 7.6.1 that may help to resolve it but can’t confirm since the release note hasn’t been updated

THIS!

The only reason I updated my Apple Watch is because Apple themselves said the issue only affected those with Touch ID, so I thought... oh, I don't have Touch ID, so mine should be fine. Nope! Super regret it!
