I suspect that we'd be unpleasantly surprised to learn just how many folks install betas without making any kind of backup first, or who are counting on iCloud Backup to save them if something goes wrong (not knowing that iOS won't restore newer-version backups to an older-version device).

When I was crazy and young, I used to restore my phone. Unplug. Not do the back up. Add the beta profile. Install the beta. Then erase all content and settings and then set up from iCloud back up which was now on the right iOS. On my main device. At work. ?

Don’t do this at home kids.

I’m sure this has been asked a million times, but how is 15.5 on battery life? Especially on the SE 2022.

15.4.1 had been great for me when it comes to battery life. I don’t wanna stir up the hornet’s nest.

One can't stop "progress" in general... i mean yes you have the option to stay on 15.4.1 but we know the results at the end...

I'm on 15.4.1 and it drains battery a little more and it is more sluggish definitely but too soon to affirm.

Hi lads! I know the battery is again a hot topic for every other release than 15.4.1, but I need to ask. I'm using an iPhone 13 Pro. I decided to give the RC a chance and put the Beta profile on my phone. The battery life is awful. I've unplugged my device at 8 AM in the morning, I just went back home from work where I need to admit that I have a pretty Low Signal, but I'm connected to the Wi-Fi all day. It's 6:22PM and I'm at 44%. I've used my phone for calls, mails, messages and light social media during my workday. I'm thinking of downgrading to 15.4.1, any advice? Thanks a mil!

You have 44% left after 10.5 hours of use in suboptimal cell coverage (and yes, that still matters, because the phone is hunting for a signal). This implies 18-20 hours of battery life assuming normal usage conditions (and probably more in real life unless you are awake more than most people). That is in no way “awful” battery life. I would definitely not downgrade over this.

Weird, at first iPhone 11 Pro was extremely laggy but after a moment it seems to be snappier and not losing frames in animations like it was before on 15.4.1.
Not found yet any bug…
Same goes for iPad Pro 2018 11” - fluid and snappy makes me happy

Edit:
No one mentioned that there are several security patches in 15.5. List seems to be a long when looking for code execution with kernel privilages…

Edit2: Damn, that’s the best update for iOS 14 and 15 yet. I guess they played with something deep like entropy generator because both devices got new life and better battery for sure.
I am impressed, really impressed.

I did an update to 15.5 using the IPSW file. Took maybe 15 minutes total time, including the time it takes to download the IPSW file. 15.5 on my 13 Pro Max, the animations and scrolling is very fluid and smooth. I have not noticed any lagging issues as of yet. Will keep an eye on the battery life for 15.5. So far, 15.5 has not introduced any regressions that I have noticed so far.

Anyone else having issues with Mail and Safari? Mail no longer offers to load remote content, and turning off the block in settings still doesn’t allow the content to load. Safari seems to have some issues loading certain sites, and there seems to be an issue where sites are loading with a different font than before 15.5. Trying to load the site in Chrome for iOS, it works just fine so it’s not an incompatibility with WebKit.

I think my battery in iPhone 12 has again taken a hit. The battery quality in iPhone 12 series has been the shi****st it has ever been. Wife's iPhone 12 mini is down to 85% health in 6 months and apple support is stating that this is normal.

In my experience, loading remote content has been gone for awhile.

It's been working great prior to 15.5. Safari's rendering engine seems have gone wonky. Check out this screen shot from macOS 12.4. Before the update on all my devices, Google News would load fine without an issue. Now the font is some system default and not all of the elements show up. It's not just that site, it is quite a few. And it's not just Safari on macOS, it's on iOS and iPadOS too. All the webpages that refuse to load or load completely on one device act exactly the same on all my other devices. But Chrome, Firefox, Edge all load them ok.

2. Restore
• Erase all content And settings from settings

This will reset your phone temporarily like a new device, check to see if you have any 5G signal out of interest?

• Then plug your phone in and in finder select the restore button - you have the back up to use you made earlier.
• let the phone restore and then select your encrypted back up.

These are the things I try and normally it fixes the issues.

If your still dead on 5G after that, possibly a hardware fault and coincidence with the iOS 15.5 update, but I’d then book into Apple and explain you’ve taken the above steps, let them run a diagnostics on your phone.

You don't have to erase all content and settings from settings before clicking Restore in Finder/iTunes. When you click Restore it also erases your phone before re-installing iOS.

You are correct if you aren’t installing a specific IPSW file.

Well it seems after updating using the IPSW file, I have once again encounter the Safari text marking issue. I did notice it was happening in 15.4.1 but installing the IPSW file without first erasing does not fix the issue. Looks like I will need to do an Erase All Contents and restore from encrypted backup which I had done just before updating to 15.5.

I would agree. I’ve just had a new one put in, very fast service under an hour, affordable in my 12 from Apple.

Feels like a new phone, but I didn’t need to remortgage to get one ?

Another interesting thing: the feedback app is still present. Doesn’t it usually disappear on an RC?
I think not, I believe it is installed once the beta software profile has been initialised and remains there until its removed again, even when not running a beta.

Option-clicking Restore still erases all content and settings in the process of installing the selected IPSW file.

I’ll try and find the article about the difference with Erase all content and settings and restores - apparently Restores, your phone recognises your repairing the device, so keeps some files and folders back in the process, not zeroing out all data.

Erase all content and settings, works like the phone has been stolen, so wipes everything to zero. “Apparently

I can see that logic. I did an encrypted back up, erase all content and settings, then restored from that back up and I have to say after listening to @tazmangus method, it gave my phone a lovely spring clean. A few little tiny bugs went away and was just left with things that were being fixed in the pipe line. Only had 1 banking app to sort out also, so was super quick.

After updating yesterday, today I did have 2 voice call failures. I predict we'll see 15.5.1 fairly soon.

I just had several between yesterday evening and this morning. Final version, never run beta software. Spain here (carrier: Movistar).

Between Intercom been broken and this I think you are right and we will have a 15.5.1 update very soon

A little update, the animations do feel a tad slower, but battery life seems to be better and also charging seems a little faster. 13pm

Was that phone purchased new 6 months ago? If so 85% seems excessive (although the tiny battery in that phone may age different than in the larger iPhone 12 models due to the need to charge more than once per day).

Actually mine disappeared from my Siri Suggestions widget and from my phone shortly after that post. As it should. The Feedback app is only supposed to be present on devices running a beta. But you can still get to the feedback app via Safari by typing in the following URL (without the quotes): “applefeedback://“
